Marietta (7-0)@ Meigs (8-0) Friday-1/3/25
Any thoughts or predictions as this is one of the biggest games of the year in southeastern ohio and i've barely heard any buzz about it.
Re: Marietta (7-0)@ Meigs (8-0) Friday-1/3/25
I have seen Meigs 3 times so far this year, Waterford, Wellston and Jackson. Jackson played them tough but Meigs finally took over. Common opponent in Belpre as Meigs won by 29 and Marietta by 37.
Think it will be close, advance to Meigs as home court.

I’m taking Meigs….Carson Davis will be to much for Marietta’s stingy defense

Battle of two good coaches, but unless Meigs has an off night they'll win this one in a close one (64-57)

I can agree with a player being too much for their stingy defense but in my honest opinion I think it will be more of the 6'5" sophomore brinager that will give marietta fits and then you add in davis and vance as well, with a point guard like tracy!TheOHIOBully wrote: Tue Dec 31, 2024 1:19 pm I’m taking Meigs….Carson Davis will be to much for Marietta’s stingy defense
brinager if i am correct is meigs leading scorer on the year
Re: Marietta (7-0)@ Meigs (8-0) Friday-1/3/25
Marietta's win over Warren made me rethink this one but that was at home so i am back to my original thought. Meigs, possibly in extra time.
Re: Marietta (7-0)@ Meigs (8-0) Friday-1/3/25
I doubt anyone thought Marietta would be 7-0 to start the season, and if they play their best they have a chance tonight. Have to shoot the three and play really strong defense. From the games I've seen, Meigs has more room for error and a greater variety of people who can score.

Neither team shooting it well. Not sure Marietta can finish this but that Tiger defense is the smartest, toughest defense I’ve seen in a long time. Meigs likely to figure something out, but regardless I’m a believer in both these teams.
— Meigs getting almost every “50-50” call so far all game.

I’m not from Marietta, and I think Meigs may be the better team, but the Tigers were better tonight (neither team played its best). I’ll stop right there as nobody wants to hear it, even on an opinion board.

What was the confusion at the end of the game? Watched on hudl, not sure what the ref was thinking?

I've seen all Marietta games except one, and this might have been the worst the Tigers have played offensively, but part of the credit goes to Meigs defense. But I have to agree with SE Hoops Fan, Marietta was good enough to win and should have. Not going to make obvious excuses but this Tigers team is more capable than I thought they'd be this year after losing three starters from last season. Having said all of this Meigs has a fair shot at 22-0 in the regular season and a deep tourney run.Tvcfanatic wrote: Fri Jan 03, 2025 8:39 pmI'll be the first to tell you, i've watched every one of meigs games this year and thats the worst i've seen them play this year honestlySouthEast Hoops Fan wrote: Fri Jan 03, 2025 8:36 pm I’m not from Marietta, and I think Meigs may be the better team, but the Tigers were better tonight (neither team played its best). Maybe 22-0 but there won’t be a deep tourney run. Meigs is very undisciplined. Certain kids only giving effort on the offensive end when they have the ball. Gotta battle on both ends of the floor! Good game to watch tonight! The Vance kid battles when he’s on the floor. Baringer plays hard as well! 5 from Marietta handles ball really well but wasn’t a good shooter tonight! 20 from Marietta is nice player as well!Hookshot wrote: Fri Jan 03, 2025 8:52 pmI've seen all Marietta games except one, and this might have been the worst the Tigers have played offensively, but part of the credit goes to Meigs defense. Gonna save this for when they make a deep runBilly T Kid wrote: Fri Jan 03, 2025 9:39 pmMaybe 22-0 but there won’t be a deep tourney run. Meigs is very undisciplined. Re: Marietta (7-0)@ Meigs (8-0) Friday-1/3/25
Somebody who watched the game explain how that last basket by Meigs could have counted. The official blew the whistle after the missed field goal attempt with about 2.5 seconds left, and yet allowed Meigs to rebound and score. If the whistle was a mistake (which it was) nothing after the whistle can be permitted. Meigs should have had the ball out of bounds with about two seconds to play, down 45-44. Officials can make mistakes, even an inadvertent whistle. But they collectively together made an even bigger mistake. I'm writing this only to see if anyone wants to attempt to justify what I just described.
