Yeah they scored 100 and everyone is really impressed by the coach scoring that many and totally demoralizing a weak, winless team. He must have still been patting himself on the back when Waterford showed up. Deserves COY for sure. SMDH

Everyone dragging down the AD... No matter how many times you wanna say it, the volleyball player was never going to be eligible to play the full season. The coach knew that and is placing all the blame on the AD for "not filing paperwork." When a student transfers to another school district their 10th, 11th or 12th grade year, they are REQUIRED to sit out half the season (unless they physically move into the district). The VB coach knew that, so why did the coaches still allow her to play? It's crappy for the student athletes, but everyone was well aware of this when she transferred. He's catching a lot of flack for the female sports, but no one is going to mention that he put his foot down on the illegal substance abuse with the football team that THE COACH TRIED TO SWEEP UNDER THE RUG!!!!

I have received criticism for supporting the Athens AD, but I see that I am not alone. The proof is in the results, and no reasonable person can argue with his success.Frogger101 wrote: Thu Jan 02, 2025 12:13 pm Everyone dragging down the AD... He has assembled only the top coaches from junior high on up, and the dividends are being seen across all sports. As someone with grandkids in the system, I am thankful that the administration has been able to hire someone with his qualifications and leadership.
There's too much jealousy and negativity on this forum sometimes. I just want to see people get the proper recognition they deserve.

Athens 54
Reported as Final score
Had to be a first half score for Bulldogs to ONLY have 54 pts…….
Re: Athens Scores 100!!!
Marietta couldn't quite shake them although they had double digit lead in the first half. Athens would get down double digits and then fight back to a 3-5 point game only to have Marietta have another spurt. I think this would be a good rematch in the tourney if it comes to that. Since Marietta loses one of their transfers after this game, it could be a toss up the second time around. In the end, i still think they are both looking up to Unioto and Sheridan.

This is a JOKE! Scoring 100 on a winless helpless team in the age of a running clock, embracing all this “Historical” talk, and claiming they are on a “Historical Run”. The TVC is as weak as it’s ever been, just 10 years ago the OHIO had four teams in a Regional, today it’s a shell of that season. Their coaches and fans should stay off the social media and focus on playing games. Mom and Dads should do the same.
As for the VB situation, there are NO DOUBTS the coach knew the living situation of the player. But it’s also 100000% responsibility of the administration to do the paperwork. What happened to the kids is a shame, but there are rules for a reason! The AD did not do his job, that’s the bottom line! This is not the first time either, especially on the female side of the ledger. Hopefully he learns and grows, but I suspect his dislike for female sports is ingrained into his personality.

Mr. Rubble - I've watched Athens sports for many, many, many years, and I do honestly think that we will look back at the program that Coach Koska has built as the Golden Age of Girls Basketball. This is the best coached and most innovative team I have ever seen in The Plains.
They have had a couple of off shooting nights, but have played well enough to be undefeated if a couple of breaks had gone their way. They have a HUGE non conference win over Warren Harding and I can't see anyone tripping them up for a perfect league season. From there, all eyes are focused on punching their ticket to Dayton. That is going to be the benchmark goal every season going forward for the foreseeable future.

Warren Harding had a record from beating up on Akron City League. Please, it’s a name, it’s a football name and has t been relevant in quite awhile.SportsGrandDad wrote: Sat Jan 04, 2025 5:26 pm Mr. Rubble - I've watched Athens sports for many, many, many years, and I do honestly think that we will look back at the program that Coach Koska has built as the Golden Age of Girls Basketball. Re: Athens Scores 100!!!
Let’s revisit this GrandPa! Athens has now lost two regular season games. Tell us again how this team is “Historic”. What record they going to beat besides scoring records vs winless teams. This team isn’t even the 2nd best at this point in last ten years.SportsGrandDad wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2024 7:06 amSpiderjon wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2024 1:24 amIt may be a different style of basketball than what Athens is accustomed to, but this Athens team doesn't win the TVC hocking championship this season or probably any season in the last 20 years. I think Waterford beats them by 15+ next week and Fed Hock (currently 3rd in the TVC Hocking) beats them when they play as well. Athens vs Marietta=Blowout city! They are a decent team with some good 3 pt shooters, but I dont think the 2-2-1 press (That Minford killed in the 2nd half) scares too many good teams. This group will def win some games but I don't see a long tourney run, ESP being one of the smaller D3 teams.SportsGrandDad wrote: Wed Dec 18, 2024 11:16 am
Don't get me wrong, I do not mean to take anything away from the players. But to be fair, you have to give him a credit for developing it. He just has them playing a style of basketball that you normally don't see at the high school level.
Go Bulldogs!
I think D3 is one of the biggest beneficiaes of the expanded divisions and there are some good programs in D3 ready to breakout. The old system had these same teams playing schools with an enrollment of 1200+ girls. Now if we could figure out how to get the State semi-finals and Finals in the same location on the same weekend.....
https://ohsaaweb.blob.core.windows.net/ ... 024-25.pdf
As far as beating a team by 90+, its just a bad look, from the coaching staff down to the players. They should feel embarrassed they did that to another group of girls.
I'm going to have to disagree. I don't see this Athens team losing a game in the regular season. But that's why they play the game, and we will find out soon enough!!
As far as being embarrassed about beating an opponent decisively, I trust that Bulldog's Coach K has a plan for everything and he warned everyone that there would be haters, but he is keeping his team's eye on the ultimate prize. He is a well-respected developer of a program from the bottom to the top and has numerous coaching awards to his credit to prove it and I look forward to watching all of the games as the season unfolds. It's going to be a fun ride!!

Barney Rubble- You're right in that nothing can be judged until the season is over, so we'll just have to wait and see.
I see the continuing adjustments to the offense and pressure defense as the season has gone along. They have things dialed in to repeat as TVC champs and make it three sectional championships in a row. I also think they are due to break out for another big scoring game soon.
Has another Athens Girl's team ever scored 100 points???

Re: Athens Scores 100!!!
Athens will have another high scoring game the 27th when they can beat up on Meigs again, Meigs at best will be 1-14.
Athens is at best a big fish in a little pond. I don’t remember Athens doing so well when they played in the SEOL against schools similar in size.

Maybe they can score 200 when they play Meigs next time. I bet that’ll be a record. Then you can really start bragging them up.SportsGrandDad wrote: Sun Jan 05, 2025 2:25 pm Barney Rubble- You're right in that nothing can be judged until the season is over, so we'll just have to wait and see.

But you are incorrect... no matter if paperword was or was not filed, that player was STILL INELIGIBLE for the second half of the season... why can noone get that through their head??Barney Rubble wrote: Sat Jan 04, 2025 11:44 am This is a JOKE! It’s not about whether the player was ineligible or not, it’s about the games that had to be forfeited, games Athens may or may not have won without that player, but due to ineptitude didn’t get a chance to find out. Maybe you can get that around your head.

So........this generational team in the middle of their "golden age" and focusing on a trip to Dayton....would finish no better than 3rd...and probably 4th in the TVC Hocking?? VERY IMPRESSIVE! ...dont worry about getting pounded by the hocking...you guys have Meigs coming up...That will get you guys back on track!
Re: Athens Scores 100!!!
How many Hocking Division teams did Athens lose to during the Dom era? But never fear, the coach will have a chance to get 100 again soon when they play Meigs and ole grandpa will be on here telling us how great his son is as a coach.trampoline wrote: Tue Jan 21, 2025 11:57 amSportsGrandDad wrote: Sat Jan 04, 2025 5:26 pm Mr. Rubble - I've watched Athens sports for many, many, many years, and I do honestly think that we will look back at the program that Coach Koska has built as the Golden Age of Girls Basketball.
