Warren Coaching Job
Re: Warren Coaching Job
Mike Kupfner, Parkersburg HS defensive coordinator, is a name that could apply. He applied in 2019 in the same cycle as Kimes and was close to getting the job. Would not be surprised to see his name at all.

The name I have heard as the top choice would be an excellent hire for Warren, if they can get it done. Too soon to share, though.

I was told by a good source also that’s one of reasons Peyton left !MOVGridiron wrote: Mon Jan 20, 2025 2:33 pmI have been told by a good source that this is a rumor, and that it is still on the table for the right candidate. In other words, Warren should again be able to get a solid candidate pool for this job.Feedme#2WarrenFB wrote: Mon Jan 20, 2025 12:03 pmBeing cut April or May ! Didn’t know if this was a sure thing or not. Heard several conflicting stories on the assistant AD position. If it goes, yes, that makes it harder. I see better than I hear, though, so we’ll see how it plays out.

I won’t say if that’s the name I heard, but I will say the one I heard is pretty much a definite. But I was sworn to secrecy so I’ll honor that. People will be shocked when it comes out though. I still can hardly believe it myself. I can't imagine transferring out because of a coaching decision when I played. But I guess when you're a third generation warrior, blue is in your blood. None of the kids on this team are playing D1 ball no matter how good their parents think they are.
Coaches come and go. They have to balance their low paying coaching, Assistant AD job with having a family. So I don't fault coach Peyton at all. I don't think warrens athletic program is always ran the best, they don't always get their hires right, but they do try to.
I'll still be in the stands every Friday night supporting regardless who the coach is.

Would be hard to find anyone better. Done a great job at PHS. Kids and parents respect him and a great teacher of the game and even better teacher in the classroom.beg003 wrote: Mon Jan 20, 2025 2:39 pm Mike Kupfner, Parkersburg HS defensive coordinator, is a name that could apply. He would be a good hire, but let's be honest. Every coach we get says they're going to stay long term. Nobody is staying long term. It's a shame we have no legit in house candidates. Someone who went to warren, coached at warren. Lives in the Warren school district. We need stability. Hard to build a program, and change a culture when you replace coaches every 3 years.

So no else should apply then since it’s a definite? Why post a job and the tell people in the community it’s a done deal “but don’t say anything”. These kinda comments will keep good candidates from applying. Say who it is or don’t say anything.Feedme#2WarrenFB wrote: Mon Jan 20, 2025 7:32 pmIs that a good SMH or a bad ?eagle25 wrote: Mon Jan 20, 2025 5:00 pmI won’t say if that’s the name I heard, but I will say the one I heard is pretty much a definite. Just have to do it the right way.TigerALUM99 wrote: Mon Jan 20, 2025 8:58 amMight want to talk to the kid from Belpre who transferred to Marietta about moving schools. That didn’t work out so well for him playing 5 games. There isn’t a transfer portal in high school. I’m sure your AD isn’t worried about 2 kids leaving the program because of who he hires. From what I’ve heard, Peyton had a swinging door out there with coaches and players leaving so it won’t be anything new.Feedme#2WarrenFB wrote: Mon Jan 20, 2025 8:16 am I’m pretty sure Pepper and Carr can go anywhere and if they decide to go they our a package deal and will make the move this school year … Warren better get this coaching hire right all I’m saying!!

Re: Warren Coaching Job
I would disagree with this statement. Three years ago I know of two younger Warren alumni that applied who both had coached in college attempted prior to get the job. Neither of them got an interview. Granted were either of them the best candidates? I don’t know, but I think at some point we have to consider hiring someone who wants to stay. Someone that people know in the community, strong ties that genuinely cares about the program community and kids.Bucknuts88 wrote: Mon Jan 20, 2025 7:22 pmFletchlives wrote: Mon Jan 20, 2025 7:18 pmWould be hard to find anyone better. I’m not suggesting either would have been the best candidate 3 years ago in terms of experience coordinator/head coaching but with the right staff around them I believe we could build a great program. Allow the young coach to grow with the program and eventually you get what you want. Elite coach, program, that isn’t using this as a stepping stone.
Just my two cents, unfortunately I don’t think that’s the route they ever go.

The comment above is not a knock of the hiring process or Steve/Board by any means.
I believe Steve has done a great job hiring coaches, but at the time restarting every couple years makes it very tough to build and sustain success.

Re: Warren Coaching Job
Agreed. And at some point, you're gonna hire a guy that may not be who you think he is and your program takes several steps back. I do believe this job will attract quality candidates and Steve Harold will hire the right guy.LeftHandedCoach wrote: Wed Jan 22, 2025 10:15 am The comment above is not a knock of the hiring process or Steve/Board by any means.

Isn’t Steve who hired Peyton? Wouldn’t put too much trust in him. Peyton has bounced around more than kids in the college transfer portal. Better let someone else pick your next coach.bigblue52 wrote: Tue Jan 21, 2025 11:14 pm Trust in Steve Harold to get this right. I believe he will. GO BLUE
Re: Warren Coaching Job
Sure, let’s not trust the judgment of a guy who, in all honestly, should be working at the college level and is hilariously overqualified to be a high school AD to pick a coach. You didn’t like Jimmy, we get that, and that’s fine you have that opinion. On the other hand, a lot of people did like him. The obsession with him is pretty weird, though. It’s 95% of your posts so it must be a big bone to pick.TigerALUM99 wrote: Wed Jan 22, 2025 3:44 pmIsn’t Steve who hired Peyton? Wouldn’t put too much trust in him. Steve Harold is, pound for pound, the best asset Warren Local Schools has at the current time. No one can say the guy has been anything short of outstanding. We could always go back to the hiring system that brought us Anthony Fish and Tim Carver. I’m sure you know how that worked out. Would that be better?
