AD/Head Coaches
AD/Head Coaches
Just a question for all in SEO land… how many HS coaches and ADs in our region has their state issued educator or administrator license? I understand that it isn’t a requirement since they should only be paid a supplemental for their coaching or extracurricular duties such as chess or debate club. This is usually a percentage (roughly 10-20%) of the base teaching salary based on experience. I am hearing that some people in the SEO region are coaches/AD’s and don’t have the proper state license but expect teacher/administrator pay or higher. Remember the term student athlete where student should always come before athlete. All resources should focus on the education of students before allocating funds to pay someone to sit in an office and can’t do the administrator responsibilities necessary for that pay scale they expect. A person who is has the required college hours or even a Bachelor’s degree is welcome to sub in classrooms for around $80-$100 per day, and they are expected to perform the duties of that particular classroom teacher. How would you feel if someone walked off the street and had no training but expected CEO pay because they were the company softball team coach who won the county tournament previously?? It is sad that many districts the salary of teachers and administrators are low in comparison to other neighboring districts when they have the proper education of a Bachelor's Degree requiring 4 years of university studies, Master's Degree of at least 2 years of studies, on-going professional development, passing their teaching/administrator license exams, and received the proper licensure through the state they are employed in to do the job and spend many more hours than just a normal school day just like others with supplemental contracts.

Exactly, he never asked for more money and has already been rehired for next year. Quite a few fans have asked for him to get a raise, he hasn’t.fielddaddy wrote: Wed Jan 22, 2025 4:33 pm People always putting nose in where it does not belong.

Re: AD/Head Coaches
My initial post was never directed toward any school or coach. I also was not sticking my nose in anywhere other than asking the question. We have a problem where teacher/Administrators are underpaid and the education of our children should be #1. As with any job, you should be paid according to your years experience and credentials for that particular job.

Awesome. And if anyone believes that, please DM me for some wonderful property in Nebraska right along the Gulf of America.

I’m trying to get the gist of this post. Are you saying that ADs should have to have a teaching license? Or a master’s degree? Or are you arguing that an AD should only be paid a supplemental salary instead of a salary? Sorry if I missed the point, but I’m having trouble dissecting what the gripe is here.BurgFan43 wrote: Wed Jan 22, 2025 1:56 pm Just a question for all in SEO land… how many HS coaches and ADs in our region has their state issued educator or administrator license? My question is how many AD’s in SEO land have their teacher and/or administrator license?? I know many districts have assistant principals in the HS that are also AD’s. This would require them to have their state licensure in administration, passed their principal exam for licensure, and have a Master’s Degree in Administration. This is why they are paid administration level pay. Some of the more wealthy schools in larger cities have passed operating levies and/or have larger tax base from property taxes to help with their salaries and operating costs. I just don’t see any district in SEO land with that wealth factor that can pay to have a stand alone AD position without a teacher or administration licensure. If a district can support that then they should be the highest paid teachers in the region as well. Back to my question from the beginning, are there any AD’s in SEO region whose only job is AD during the school day while kids are in the classrooms???
Re: AD/Head Coaches
His gripe is Ironton beat Wheelersburg 55-0 and won the state championship two weeks ago later. Ironton’s AD does not have a school administrator license, so that’s what we are complaining about today. A real winner’s mentality.GrumpyPundit wrote: Thu Jan 23, 2025 10:38 pmI’m trying to get the gist of this post. Are you saying that ADs should have to have a teaching license? Or a master’s degree? Are you only wanting the data for SEO, or are you talking statewide?BurgFan43 wrote: Wed Jan 22, 2025 1:56 pm Just a question for all in SEO land… how many HS coaches and ADs in our region has their state issued educator or administrator license? There is no license requirement to be an Athletic Director.
Most medium to large schools have a dedicated AD. They may serve as AP/AD, but there are many who are dedicated AD's.
I would argue that AD's are administrators (or should be).
I can tell you as a teacher that AD's can't be good at what they do if they're serving dual roles. One will always suffer. Law of the jungle, any good AD will tell you that.
Re: AD/Head Coaches
Lol, no, not wrong - I said most schools I know of. You originally asked if there are “any”. There are several. Are you changing what you’re looking for now?BurgFan43 wrote: Sun Jan 26, 2025 7:40 pmI believe you are wrong. Re: AD/Head Coaches
What are the “several” schools in SEO region have a dedicated AD who isn’t a teacher or principal?? Nobody is changing anything… just wanting to know what schools have them. I would like to see where the teacher’s salaries rank as well.enigmaax wrote: Mon Jan 27, 2025 2:57 pmLol, no, not wrong - I said most schools I know of. You originally asked if there are “any”. Is 55 a significant number to you??TigerBob wrote: Mon Jan 27, 2025 10:58 pm So, you say very few people in SE Ohio do this. But you’re posting about it? Wonder why? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I’m doing my best to research this, but there are a lot of SEO schools in our part of the state. We don’t have a lot of medium and large schools though so that might make a difference the previous post. He did say it is mainly medium and large schools so I would say DI to D3 are large and medium size. What do you think??
Re: AD/Head Coaches
So let me get this straight, you ask a question then someone gives you a response and you say they're wrong and you're doing your research. Why even ask the question then?? Most schools in the area I can think of where I know the AD off the top of my head at least are AD's only, now that's not to say they don't have a teaching degree or master's whatever the case might be. Guys I know are simply AD's, now is that to say they ALL are absolutely not but just the surrounding schools off the top of my head are. Don't come on here and say I'm wrong especially when I know the guys and their role with the school. Ask a question you get a response don't like the response you should probably do your research first, make sure you skew those numbers to support your argument though.BurgFan43 wrote: Sun Jan 26, 2025 7:40 pmI believe you are wrong. Re: AD/Head Coaches
My thing mr burgfan is who cares? So what Ironton cares about football more than Wheelersburg so they are working on taking care of Pendleton? You guys are in a tier below us and that is okay. Maybe if Wheelersburg took some action earlier and placed a care on football, you would not be on SEOPS hoping Pendleton leaves Ironton so little sister can be relavent again and not get thumped and outscored by 80 against Ironton. You guys keep winning the lil ol SOC. We will repeat as state champs
