High School Players Getting "Offers"
I'm noticing that on social media, players are claiming to be receiving offers from both big and small colleges. A lot of these players are not currently juniors or seniors. Have the rules changed? I was always under the impression that you could not receive an offer until your Junior year of HS.
Also, I'm noticing a lot of players using these recruiting services. I have zero knowledge of that process, but does it not seem like a waste of money? What is stopping a kid from sending a coach or recruiter their highlight tape, setting up a meeting, etc.? Again, maybe I'm completely out of the loop on this, but spending thousands of dollars on this seems like a scam to me...

i've no idea from all over. i know ironton's shaun terry is heading to mizzou, to continue his career as a tiger. and josh johnson from ironton is headed to penn state, who finished 13 -3. and were in the final 4. on facebook there is a picture on his facebook page. coach franklin even came to his house for dinner. that's the dadburnest thing. i'd love to hear who else. you gotta think brayden schreck is a highly wanted athlete as a qb, and i've no idea of any other figting tiger commits there are. i'd love to hear more. from those who know. ytb.

I see kids that are getting "offers" from D3 schools. Offers for what? Too pay $50,000 a year for a spot on a team.cavsfuhball wrote: Fri Jan 17, 2025 3:03 pm I'm noticing that on social media, players are claiming to be receiving offers from both big and small colleges. Ya this is something I’ve wondered about too. Kids have a signing to go play d3? You can just go to school there and join try out for the team, you don’t have to sign a letter of intent.Bozo wrote: Tue Jan 21, 2025 1:37 pmI see kids that are getting "offers" from D3 schools. Typically with most NCAA DI Sports (Minus football, W/M basketball, softball, baseball and W/M lacrosse) coaches cannot make offers with Potential Student Athletes until June 15 after their sophomore year. I'm not sure what the current day/date is for those sports. I've always thought it was crazy that offers went to fresh/sophs anyway.
The recruiting sites have the typical pros/cons. It's a way to reach more coaches quickly than the generice blind copy all email. One downside is there it just so many. Which one do you use if you are to use one? I think I have accounts on 6-7 different sites? Makes it a pain to keep track of everything but if you're on top of it, it's not too bad. Coaches can create lists and filter it down nationwide, league, commitment status, interest, etc.
Most of the time with D3's they're just signing a "Financial Aid Agreement" paper, stating that they understand how much it's going to cost. It's more for show than anything.

An OFFER doesn’t necessarily mean much more than, “we could see you in our program” in most cases.

Re: High School Players Getting "Offers"
I knew a successful small-time college head coach & I asked him about recruiting services. He told me that whenever he got materials from one of them, he just threw the info away. That was 5-6 years ago. Maybe it has changed. Think about it. ANY kid - regardless of talent level - can pay & have someone send out stuff to colleges.

I've also heard that colleges can verbally "offer" a few hundred athletes, then they significantly scale down their ACTUAL offers.madpolecat wrote: Wed Jan 22, 2025 6:18 am https://x.com/adambreneman81/status/167 ... 11875?s=46
