Monroe Central 24-25
Re: Monroe Central 24-25
I didn’t realize Caldwell somehow lost to Shenandoah, but apparently they did on Tuesday.
This makes Friday’s game with MC a different dynamic. Certainly not a must win for the Redskins but no better than to break a 2 game losing streak than to beat MC.
Just saying not to look past Caldwell and take them easy. They were 13-0 for a reason.
Good luck to both schools

Hard to figure that one but Shenandoah has size and that is a rivalry game. I know it wasn't a blowout the first time (maybe 10 points) but it was a comfortable win for Caldwell so it could have been hungover from the first loss or looking ahead to the rematch for Caldwell.

Re: Monroe Central 24-25
I watched both Caldwell/Shenandoah games this year. It's a rivalry game and usually has a completely different feel than most of the games I attend. Usually both teams play as hard as you will see all year but the two games this year were weird. The December game Caldwell led by 20 for most of the way and Shenandoah didn't seem interested. The game on Tuesday was the exact opposite. The Caldwell kids looked and played like they did not want to be there. Maybe some shell shock from getting their butts kicked by MC on Friday night. I do know that a few parents were saying the team had a lot of illness. I don't know numbers but I would guess Caldwell missed upwards of 20 shots in the lane and probably still should have won. I've watched most of their games livestream, I don't think they are very consistent in most games but they have times where they play really, really well. They're capable of probably beating just about anyone and losing to just about anyone depending on the night. I'd expect MC to win this one comfortably though, they are really good, aside from a few of the central district bigger schools I get to see living in Pickerington MC plays the best basketball I've seen all winter.dboy wrote: Fri Jan 31, 2025 9:28 am Hard to figure that one but Shenandoah has size and that is a rivalry game. *I wanted to add that Caldwell auctioned off a ball on the court pregame with some Cavs tickets to raise money for Coach Miley's daughter who is battling cancer, I'm not sure what they ended up with but the last time the PA guy announced it I believe it was north of $4000, very cool thing to see.

I'm with you on these takes. I like Caldwell from what I have seen and agree that they have the capability to beat teams on a given night. It's just unfortunate for them to be D-VI this year with MC and Hiland. I do think them and Malvern could be an interest wrench in the plans of a MC-Hiland matchup if one of those schools overlooks them.redskinwitness wrote: Fri Jan 31, 2025 10:37 amI watched both Caldwell/Shenandoah games this year. Also a very cool thing for Coach Miley. Will pray for the best for his family.

69-22 MC over Caldwell. MC jumped up 23-3 or so and never looked back. Didn't see the Caldwell Shenandoah game but the post where they didn't seem interested seems to have applied to tonight as well. Good showing by the Noles though. Tucker Howell is now the all time leading scorer for MC, passed Kalista Friday in the 2nd qtr.

Re: Monroe Central 24-25
Watched Hiland go to Wheeling yesterday evening and take down Linsly by 3 I believe ... Hiland had them down by 8- double digits for almost the entire 2nd half of play ... going to take a lot from the other East District D6 teams to make Hiland cancel their reservations at the Convo in Athens that I'm sure they make every March as they advance to the final 4 ...
Re: Monroe Central 24-25
So Wheeling Central beat Linsly worse than Hiland twice? I assume Linsly’s much better than their records indicates but haven’t got to seem them play this year.pfloyd wrote: Thu Feb 06, 2025 10:05 am Watched Hiland go to Wheeling yesterday evening and take down Linsly by 3 I believe ... Re: Monroe Central 24-25
PvcBball, I have no idea how good Linsly is compared to teams in WVa ... I JUST NOW looked at their record ... I assumed that they weren't "bad" comparing them to the 25-2 team of last season with returning players from that team ... having 6-8, 6-9 size looked to struggle from the perimeter ... 6-7 guard in Goodwin , 6-9 Petrusic, 6-8 Salazar ... Linsly just has the reputation of being a good "all star" team ... I do know Berlin Hiland - solid program, great coaching, seemingly make the annual trek to the Convo ... to me Hiland looks better than last season's final 4 team ...PvcBball wrote: Thu Feb 06, 2025 11:53 amSo Wheeling Central beat Linsly worse than Hiland twice? Will also add, Hiland was up double digits with a minute to play. Linsly went on a crazy spurt and scored 7 straight in like 30 secsPvcBball wrote: Thu Feb 06, 2025 11:53 amSo Wheeling Central beat Linsly worse than Hiland twice? Monroe is a lot better than Marietta and Warren. Monroe beating those to was no fluke. Monroe matches up well with Hiland.

Monroe takes down ferry 69-54. Monroe led by 8-12 most of game. Tucker Howell is 1 point away from the all time Monroe Central/Woodsfield/Skyvue scoring record held by the legendary Mitch Hannahs.
The game saturday vs River may be moved to tomorrow..

I know they calling for nasty weather on Saturday so I understand moving the game. But when will they officially make this decision?OHBuckeyesIO wrote: Thu Feb 06, 2025 8:57 pm Monroe takes down ferry 69-54. Monroe led by 8-12 most of game. You mean just like the last 3 years when they matched up with Hiland? Especially last year when everybody thought MC would win by 20. MC has plenty of talent but the biggest issue will be if they have enough ball handlers to handle the Hiland pressure. Hilands perimeter defense is better this year than it's been in a long time. Hawks lost an all Ohioan from last year but have a much deeper team this year.EasternDspy wrote: Thu Feb 06, 2025 8:24 pm Monroe is a lot better than Marietta and Warren. Congrats to Tucker Howell for surpassing the great Mitch Hannahs for being the all-time scorer for MC/WHS/SHS history. It’s been a pleasure watching you in football and basketball.

Last 3 years have nothing to do with it and I don't recall anyone sensible picking MC by 20. With that said, you're not wrong about Hilands depth and MC needing to handle the pressure. Both teams are very deep and very good. Either one is very deserving of a deep playoff run, which, whichever one makes it out will have a great shot at doing assuming they each take care of business to the end of the district. I know Malvern and others will look to crash the party.Barn Baller wrote: Fri Feb 07, 2025 2:47 pmYou mean just like the last 3 years when they matched up with Hiland? Congrats to Tucker Howell on the record tonight, he's had a great 4 years in both football and basketball. Very humble all the way and a very deserving young man.

Re: Monroe Central 24-25
No disrespect to MC. If MC plays it right this is a winnable game against Hiland. The Hawks are vulnerable inside. Think a guy like Chance Allen will be a big key. I do think MC was a little bit surprised last year because of Hilands injuries and the close game they had against Shadyside in the district semi-final. They will not be surprised this year.OHBuckeyesIO wrote: Fri Feb 07, 2025 11:31 pmLast 3 years have nothing to do with it and I don't recall anyone sensible picking MC by 20. No, there are not "a lot better than Marietta and Warren." They played well against both teams. Credit for that. I'd take Hiland by 9 as of today. We'll see.EasternDspy wrote: Thu Feb 06, 2025 8:24 pm Monroe is a lot better than Marietta and Warren. Monroe beating those to was no fluke. Monroe matches up well with Hiland.
