Jackson 60
Chillicothe 47 a final
Quarter Breaks:
Jackson........12...21...37...60
Chillicothe..10...16...28...47
... interesting how the seeding and tournament draws are setup with the draw/seedings done PRIOR to the season being over ... for the fans it's all good as they start the discussions as to who will survive and advance, which teams in which divisions they will go see ... for coaches? not so much, as they have to try to keep their teams focused, try to finish out the regular season "peaking" vs limping into the post season ... tonight a battle for 2nd place in the FAC between the 15-5 Jackson Ironmen 7-2 in the league vs Chillicothe 10-10, 5-3 in conference play ... a Cavs W they could move into a tie for #2 in the league behind league winner Miami Trace who are undefeated 8-0 in FAC play ... again with the brackets/seedings already out there, a quick look has Jackson at the #2 seed which has them in the bottom bracket vs teams that they have already beaten - Waverly, Washington CH, Unioto, Logan Elm, McClain ... the only outlier is MSL Fairfield Union who could be a possible matchup should Coach Morrow's Ironmen get to the district finals at the Convo ... soooooo early seeding - a distraction, knowing you've beaten virtually all comers in bracket - a possible distraction ...and then you have a Jackson team that has had an excellent regular season but , and I asked Coach Morrow before the game, "Which version of the Ironmen can I expect to see tonight ? the version that scores 30 pts and wins? or the version that scores 81 but loses by 4 in OT? ... Jackson has always fit into the "TEAM ball" category in Coach Morrow's 10 seasons at the helm at Jackson High School ... tough, man to man TEAM Defense relying on good defensive rotations, good backside D, crashing the boards, being physical AS A TEAM ... offensively more of the same - no one player that you would call "THE GUY" - scoring is by committee - the more players in double figures the happier TEAM is ... TEAM ... tonight the Cavs came to town, with more youngsters seeing the floor than upperclassmen - Coach Beard starts 2 seniors , 2 sophomores and a junior ... coming off the bench a freshman and 2 sophomores ... with youngsters you never know what you're going to get from game to game as the Cavs took the #1 team in the district Warren to overtime AT THE COLISEUM , IN Warren! before losing by 3 points 69-72 ... youngsters ... Jackson was more than happy playing the "youngins" as they might be able to impose their will on a group that is still figuring out the varsity game ... Jackson 60 Chillicothe 47 a final ...
... Chilli got the tip ... came down court, worked the ball, excellent motion, crisp passing ... I told I92 who was sitting beside me - 'this Cavs team has matured! I'm seeing discipline in the offense, selective shot selection"- appearances can be deceiving LOL .. as the rest of the game was not nearly as "disciplined" ... Jackson played as I expected - scoring by committee as 6-2 jr. Bodhi Woolford got to the rim for 2pts, Charlie Woodard drained a deep three 3pts, Ryan Seimetz added a nice drive into the paint for 2pts before taking one of 3 CHS turnovers to the house for 2pts ... 6-2 jr. Stephen Jenkins got a transition bucket & 1 for the 12th Ironman point in the qtr. ... for the Cavs 6-3 soph. Caydon Cox stroked a smooth lefthanded three pointer to start the Cav scoring in the period ... 6-2 jr. Cooper Stoneking followed suit with a 3 ball of his own 3pts , senior forward 6-3 Cam Badger took a rebound back up for 2pts on the putback and Cox ended the qtr for CHS with a floater in the paint for 2pts ... Jackson 12 Chillicothe 10 after 1 ... a little figuring told me it might not be a game where the first team to 30 points gets the W! ... the 2nd period had Chillicothe putting up 6 pts with 3 turnovers ... Cox with 2pts down low, 6-4 soph Andrew Hamman hit a 15 ft midrange jumper and freshman 5-11 Cartae Ligon added 2/4 from the FT line ... on the Jackson end of the floor, the Ironmen tallied 9 pts & almost an equal amount of miscues 6 ... Charlie Woodard scored in the paint before dropping trey #2 on the night for 5pts in the qtr/7 in the half ... Jenkins with a nice score in the paint 2pts ... Wolford added 2 points down on blocks ... Jackson 21 Chillicothe 16 after two ... Coach Morrow seems to say the right things, seems to "motivate" his Ironmen in the locker room - coming out of intermission JHS used balanced scoring as all 5 starters chipped in to extend their lead ... 6-2 senior Garrett Legg started the scoring with a bucket from down on the blocks 2pts , Seimetz dropped a three ball from behind the arc 3pts, followed it with a strip, steal and score in transition 2pts... Charlie Woodard took a Cavs errant pass coast to coast for 2pts, Wolford to the line for a miss & make ... Woodard was left open for a trey that he drained - his 3rd of the game ... Jenkins with another nice move down low for 2pts in the paint ...jr. Jax Carroll added 1/2 from the charity stripe ... Chillicothe kept pace as Caydon Cox dropped his 2nd trey of the game, Hamman followed with a putback basket and 2/2 from the foul line ... the Cavaliers got back to back drives to the rim and finishes from sr Juan Miller 2pts and Ligon 2pts ... 12 point qtr for the Cavs but they lost ground as Jackson put up 16 in the frame ... Jackson 37 Chillicothe 28 after 3 ... the 4th and final qtr. saw both teams have their best offensive 8 minutes of the game ... for CHS 6-2 jr Cooper Stoneking did what I thought he would do for all 4 qtrs - put up the three ball - Stoneking drained 3 triples from behind the arc in the period and a nice drive and finish at the rim 2pts/ 11 pts in the quarter/14 on the game ... Cam Badger played a solid, physical game on the boards for Coach Beard, the 6-3 senior had an offensive board and putback 2pts to go with a strong drive to the rim for 2pts ... Cox and Miller each showed their quickness in getting to the rim off the dribble & finishing 2pts each ... 19 points in the 4th period for Chilli ... not enough to close the gap as Jackson kept the pedal down going for a 23 point quarter to keep Chillicothe at-bay and in 3rd place in the FAC ... for the Ironmen - Wolford added 8 pts (on the receiving end of a pair Jenkins' dimes 4pts, a putback bucket 2pts and 2/2 from the FT line) ... Charlie Woodard hit his 4th three ball on the night, went 2/2 from the line before getting his 2nd bucket in transition on the night 7pts in the period and 20 for the game to lead all scorers ... Stephen Jenkins did Stephen Jenkins "things" - added 2pts in the paint, distributed the ball for at least 5 assists on the night , pounded the boards, got to the FT line going 4/5 in the final period ... Ryan Seimetz was consistent all game, as the jr. added a transition bucket 2pt while giving the Ironmen 4 players in double figure scoring on the night ... Jackson 60 Chillicothe 47 a final ...

Great to see the Pfloyd logo (my signature) up on the JHS jumbotron!!! looked good !!! thank you Dan Morrow, Pete Wison who are simply the best in the business doing the livestream & radio broadcasts for the Ironmen - Dan asked pfloyd to come up and talk hoops during the varsity halftime - always a little nervous but Dan gets me over the tough spots LOL ... Good rundown. Enjoyed the company and we think a lot alike on the game. When you left for your half time talk I thought hard about doing something fun with your stuff and posting it on here…but you had a job to do. Job well done!
