Minford 66 Garaway 44 D5 Regional Semi Final ...

Post by pfloyd »

Minford 66
Garaway 44 a final

... 23-1 Minford - one of the top 2 teams in the Southeast district vs 19-6 Sugarcreek Garaway ... winner goes to the Elite 8 with a chance to play for a trip to the Final Four (in somewhere town, Ohio) ... I had watched livestream archived games of the Pirates ... good size, led by 6-1 sr. Blaine Raber ... the long, do everything swing forward (21.7 ppg/9.8 rbs per game) was the leader on the floor for Garaway ... the offense runs through Mr. Raber ... the rest of the team is very athletic - football players playing hoops, physical on the court, #2 scorer 6-4 sr. Bronson Speedy at 10 ppg ... 5-7 sr. Bennett Wallick is the #3 option at around 8 ppg ... a big time scorer with a supporting cast ... team averaging 58 ppg ... Minford , we know the Falcons, the Big 3 - Myles Montgomery 23 ppg/Bennett Kayser 24 ppg/ Jackson Shoemaker 9 ppg with a supporting cast as well ... on paper this one should have been all Minford ... speaking with John Bruce, SOSA livestream play by play/color personality , I told him there hasn't been any game this season or will be in the rest of the post season where Bennett Kayser is not THE most talented player on the court - scores at all levels, has the vertical to get HIS shot anytime he wants, at 6-6 he gets inside/finishes at the rim, can shoot/make the three, has an outstanding midrange jumper, gets to the rim off the dribble & finishes ... plays defense in the half court, has the length to be more than effective spearheading 3/4 court pressure D ... he is a nightmare matchup for any team ... Myles Montgomery - 2000 point scorer / lockdown defender - end of conversation ... Shoemaker - solid defender/supporting scorer that can/does hit the 3 pointer from multiple spots on the floor/ when you come out to the corner to close out on the three, he can put it on the floor and get to the rim, he's 6-4 ...as strong as you will find in the paint ... Minford scores at a 70 ppg clip while giving up but 49 ppg ... Minford 66 Garaway 44 a final ...

... the first quarter played out the way it looked on paper - Garaway with THE guy in Blaine Raber vs the Falcon Big 3 ... Raber got an offensive board and the putback for 2pts miss on the "& 1" ... Raber to the rim - fouled - make/make 2pts ... Raber beyond the arc for 3pts /7 pts in the qtr. ... supporting cast - 6-4 sr. Brady Geibel with a transition finish for 2pts ... 6-4 jr Chett Troyer with an offensive board/stickback 2pts ... Minford's MO on paper - the three amigos & support - Jackson Shoemaker in the paint for 2, Myles Montgomery pushing the ball in transition & finishing at the rim 2pts, Shoemaker with a 3 pointer , Montgomery a 12 footer for 2pts , Bennett Kayser on a drive and finish 2pts ... the Falcons were in their element - pushing the ball on makes, on misses & in transition ... Montgomery finished the period with 6 pts/Kayser 7 including a trey , Shoemaker with 5 pts and the supporting cast - soph Ashton Reeder 2 pts on a putback bucket ... Minford 20 Garaway 11 after 1 ... the 2nd period started as the opening quarter tipped off, Blaine Raber with a 15 footer/2pts ... Raber with the drive - fouled - 2/2 from the free throw line ... at 5:14 in the 2nd MHS was up 26-15 ... jr Jaxson Garber with a bucket in the lane 2pts for Garaway ... the Pirates were 1/5 in the opening quarter from behind the three point line, in the 2nd GHS had 9 attempts from three with 5-7 sr. PG/SG hitting the only trey of the frame for the Pirates 3 pts ... Brady Geibel got in the lane for 2pts to end the 2nd period scoring for Garaway ... Bennett Kayser liked the defensive matchup that Coach Rowe for GHS had dialed up, as the big man put up 10 pts in the period/ 17 in the half ... Montgomery & Shoemaker added 2pts each to flank their partner ... 14-11 quarter in favor of the Falcons ... Minford 34 Garaway 22 after 2 ... the 3rd quarter started out with Garaway turning up the defense and the physical play - Kayser was "taken down" hard by 2 defenders on a drive to the rim - foul - count the bucket ... on the play Garaway's Blaine Raber took the brunt of the physical foul on Kayser as his own player took him out of the play & the game as the #1 scoring option was done for the evening ... with the score now 36-22 ... 37-22 with the Kayser make on the & 1 ... what was a tough comeback to be had WITH Raber on the floor , now looked impossible with Raber sidelined for the game ... Minford smelled blood as the Falcons limited the Pirates to 10 points in the quarter (Speedy with 4 pts and Wallick 6 pts with a trey)... the Falcon offense was spearheaded by pressure defense that turned Garaway over 7 times in the qtr which led to a couple of transition buckets 4pts ... the Falcons handed the ball over to the Pirates with a matching 7 turnovers of their own which kept Minford from scoring even more in the 3rd frame, as it was MHS threw up a 26 point quarter ... led by Montgomery's 13 points/ Kayser 8 with Shoemaker adding 2 pts in transition on a wide open layup for 2 ... Curtis Glenn came in off the bench to add a trey 3pts ...Minford 60 Garaway 32 after 3 ... Coach Shoemaker cleared the bench as he rotated in the entire bench early in the 4th - I'm sure seeing the Garaway #1 option go down, watching Montgomery get put on the floor a number of times by the GHS physical defensive effort (taking a shot to the head while laying on the court resulting in a technical foul on top of the hard foul on a 3 pointer - ended up a 5 pt play & the ball) ... Kayser as well was involved in multiple hard fouls by the Pirates ... live to fight another day - get the boys off the floor ... Garaway with Minford subs playing the final 5:42 on the clock cut into the lead with Lofton Numbers netting a trey & a transition bucket 5pts/ Tanner Rowe a 15 footer for 2pts/ Kingman Bear a drive, finish &1 ... 3pts ... Micah Yoder with drive & 2pts ... for Minford - Ashton Reeder added 2 pts in the paint, Bennett Kayser 2 pts in transition before being pulled and Wyatt Dyer with 2pts on a miss and putback ... Falcons to the regional finale on Sunday ... Minford 66 Garaway 44 a regional semi-final ...

Garaway won in 2 categories: cheap shots and great names

Good work by the Falcons to get the starters out early to ensure nothing else would happen after the end of the third quarter.
