Did Lockery step down at PV?ItsMyOpinion wrote: Fri Mar 14, 2025 10:09 pm First, Waverly is more in my area so I’m a little more interested in their sports.
I’m sure Coach Robertson is interested in the job because they have talent coming up through the ranks. But I would be surprised if Waverly administration would consider him a realistic candidate. Most people remember he pulled his son from the school district and actually helped coach somewhere else while being an administer at Waverly. I think that would look bad on the leadership if the district did considered him a candidate.
Lockery has head coaching experiences but I’m not sure he is a good option. His Paint Valley tenure was not a positive experience and I’m not sure head coaching is in his wheel house!
Doug Williams would be the obvious choice but I’m not sure he will want to deal the drama that is associated with Waverly Sports. I could be wrong!
Regardless of the talent, Waverly is a terrible coaching job. The commitment to excellence is not important at Waverly. I wish them the best but they need to find the right guy this time. The last two have not been the right guys!

He’s not taking it back, he wanted to watch Trey at Rio now both boys are going to be there. Travis has a standard he holds himself to and he wants to enjoy watching his boys play ball and not feel he’s half in half out in coaching a team. Williams at one point was interested in the position and if I were to name a couple names to look at Western just graduated Janes and Haggy. Williams would be a choice and there’s a certain coach out in Adams county that could be a choice as well.

It isn’t an appealing job until this current group of parents is gone. Just the reality. No one of any quality will want the job for the next 4 years.

My guess is Doug Williams leaves West LA and comes to Waverly!
Re: Who will be the next Waverly head coach?
That would be ideal. I think he has the right energy and personality for the job. His family and personal background as a player also helps.bucknuts09 wrote: Sat Mar 15, 2025 7:10 pm My guess is Doug Williams leaves West LA and comes to Waverly!

I hope they recruit some of those Unioto players that live in Stockdale too! B.Fitch and K.Alexander would make a great duo next year and make a run in d6!ILOVEWAVERLYTIGERS wrote: Sat Mar 15, 2025 10:38 pmEastern recruiting Waverly to stay alive per usualGoAt 10 wrote: Sat Mar 15, 2025 10:31 pm I hope it is someone horrible and Alexander goes to Eastern where he belongs…

They have tried to get him before. Why would he leave to compete with football. He can always win in Latham.

Looking back at the last round of interviews two years ago, there was a coach from up north that applied and interviewed, heard he was a great pick, but Bradley was local and had some success in the area.

Guy from up north withdrew his name last time. This isn’t an appealing job right now. Everyone knows about this parent group.

Why does Alexander belong deserve to go to Eastern?? Granted it’d be a great move for the kid with what Eastern positions eastern lost be a perfect fit and win way more games in a year there than rest of his career at Waverly. Plus being DVI in basketball is a much easier path I mean they made elite 8 this year.GoAt 10 wrote: Sat Mar 15, 2025 10:31 pm I hope it is someone horrible and Alexander goes to Eastern where he belongs…

IF Fitch and Alexander went to Eastern that then top off the 6-6 QB playing his senior year to combine with what they have coming back Eastern would make a state finals run. That’s crazy to think about but it’s also how these teams are built kids know these things but ppl want to call it recruiting. Most are very naive to the fact all these kids talk with each other regardless of what school they’re at.GoAt 10 wrote: Sat Mar 15, 2025 10:47 pmI hope they recruit some of those Unioto players that live in Stockdale too! Eastern recruiting Waverly to stay alive per usual
That ^^^.
Transfers are now an accepted part of high school athletics. Waverly has benefited over the years and in turn has seen and will see student athletes head elsewhere .
These days a high school coach not only needs to be proficient in X's and O's and player development, but must also be able to develop and maintain a culture where all stakeholders in a program want to be there. Easier said than done.
They say nothing is impossible, yet I accomplish nothing every day.

Re: Who will be the next Waverly head coach?
How did this topic get sidetracked. This is about Waverly’s coaching opening, not about players transferring.
This is the problem with society. People try to encourage kids to run from their problems instead of find ways to deal with them. People/Parents thinking that running from problems is showing their kid love but in reality they are only teaching kids how to avoid problems. Instead they should be teaching them how to solve problems. Maybe a player driven program is the answer to their problem. Maybe the players hold themselves and their teammates accountable. Maybe they explain to their parents that they are going to lead the program through their actions and dedication.
My question is why are people getting on some website saying transfer here or there. Because the people trying to get kids to join their program know their program is not good enough without getting better kids. Little Billy should be this or should be that. Society is not headed in a better direction by using this philosophy. Waverly is not a good job until the right person gets hired and establishes a culture of excellence. Then Waverly will be a very good job.
Personally I hope all the kids stay at Waverly and in the process are able to influence their parents to sit back and enjoy their child’s athletic career. And if the players are able to do that then they will lead Waverly to new heights. Waverly has had some great athletes, and some great individual teams but I’m not sure they have had a great athletic program. Maybe this is the time.
