Why does Alexander belong deserve to go to Eastern?? Granted it’d be a great move for the kid with what Eastern positions eastern lost be a perfect fit and win way more games in a year there than rest of his career at Waverly. Plus being DVI in basketball is a much easier path I mean they made elite 8 this year.
Waverly would MURDER eastern in the following years

There is no problem with the kids or parents it’s been the culture that the previous coaching staff was trying to create by turning players and parents against each other and way more issues he created himself. HOWEVER That has all been handled properly by administration. Waverly is a great town and great school for your kids to go to. This post has went south by constantly bashing teenage kids by adults. It’s truly sad! Bullying is not ok. None of these kids are going anywhere now. They are all great friends. Let that at rest! Here say is just that here say! If you don’t know both sides you shouldn’t speak on it. Only the kids, parents, and previous staff truly know what happened. These kids suffered a lot and are all breathing a bit of fresh air now thankfully. This same issues happened at all 3 schools the previous staff was at and much more. It’s been handled! The school had the best interest of all the kids. This has never been a parent issue or kid issue and you’d know that if you was one involved. Let the administration handle the next best avenue for waverly tigers basketball!

Swanker is the coach of my tigers. Took some convincing to do it considering his demands but I look forward to the future of round ball in tiger town

ItsMyOpinion wrote: Sun Mar 16, 2025 11:47 am How did this topic get sidetracked. This is about Waverly’s coaching opening, not about players transferring.

This is the problem with society. People try to encourage kids to run from their problems instead of find ways to deal with them. People/Parents thinking that running from problems is showing their kid love but in reality they are only teaching kids how to avoid problems. Instead they should be teaching them how to solve problems. Maybe a player driven program is the answer to their problem. Maybe the players hold themselves and their teammates accountable. Maybe they explain to their parents that they are going to lead the program through their actions and dedication.

My question is why are people getting on some website saying transfer here or there. Because the people trying to get kids to join their program know their program is not good enough without getting better kids. Little Billy should be this or should be that. Society is not headed in a better direction by using this philosophy. Waverly is not a good job until the right person gets hired and establishes a culture of excellence. Then Waverly will be a very good job.

Personally I hope all the kids stay at Waverly and in the process are able to influence their parents to sit back and enjoy their child’s athletic career. And if the players are able to do that then they will lead Waverly to new heights. Waverly has had some great athletes, and some great individual teams but I’m not sure they have had a great athletic program. Maybe this is the time.

A rabbit hole yes, but the potential for transfers plus other problems, real or imagined, hanging over the program will influence the attractiveness of the job and who would be willing to apply.

I don't think you can speak for ALL parents and players. I know some that were very upset with the coaches resignation. I believe "Parent issues" were very much involved.

So they’ve gone to regional finals in both football and basketball without the help of transfers, thanks makes what they’ve done even more impressive.

I believe he would easily step
In as one of there best WR and DB and be a true threat on offensive side of ball in football. Basketball he would be playing for a good coach as well and would take him to a new level. I do not believe they could guard him in football at the D7 level. He was excellent for waverly in football at D4 then drop 3 divisions. Would be fun to watch. Plus great coaching at Eastern. It is about the kids and getting better and building relationships and helping them get to colleges.

I’m sure Coach Robertson is interested in the job because they have talent coming up through the ranks. But I would be surprised if Waverly administration would consider him a realistic candidate. Most people remember he pulled his son from the school district and actually helped coach somewhere else while being an administer at Waverly. I think that would look bad on the leadership if the district did considered him a candidate.

Lockery has head coaching experiences but I’m not sure he is a good option. His Paint Valley tenure was not a positive experience and I’m not sure head coaching is in his wheel house!

Doug Williams would be the obvious choice but I’m not sure he will want to deal the drama that is associated with Waverly Sports. I could be wrong!

Regardless of the talent, Waverly is a terrible coaching job. The commitment to excellence is not important at Waverly. I wish them the best but they need to find the right guy this time. The last two have not been the right guys!
Did Lockery step down at PV?
Lockery is not a good coach at any level. As for your comment on Robertson I do believe if he wants it back it is given to him. He took them to a final 4 and if you remember when he quit and took his boy and transferred him out for what ever reason the board promoted him, because the board at the time was all basketball coaches. I do not know him well but was always a good Principal to the kids. I do however agree that when he moved and coached the next year at PV he should no longer be an option.
Doug Williams will be a good hire if they can find him an administrator job.
Will be very interesting to see if they hire. Who ever it is they need to put parents in check real quick.

Of course why would Waverly want Robertson back? Yeah he had the final four run, but it has been suggested he burned so many assets during that run and relied so heavily on "daddy ball" with his son, that he left the program in shambles in terms of developing numbers, talent, and support for the future. Kinda of the root problem of of where the program is now.

All names mentioned are interested enough to at least have a sit down I’m sure. Robertson could definitely handle the parents but numbers have always been an issue for Travis. I’m not sure Travis keeps all the players who have considered moving at Waverly. I’m curious why there are still people who would argue Kyle Miller is the man to elevate a basketball program? Kyle would still be my first choice for a pickup game but Piketon yes has a talent problem but has gradually gotten worse every year. Anyone mentioning Coach Lockery from PV is a joke. I guess any experience nowadays is good experience?? If he was still at Eastern they wouldn’t have even been competitive the last 4 years. He should’ve never gotten that job.. Doug Williams is the obvious choice as far as local coaches go. I saw someone mentioned an Adams county coach but the only two worth having would be Peebles/North Adams coaches. I’ll be the negative one on here but we have to have a little higher standards than bringing in coaches that other schools are glad to get rid of… (Calahan and Bradley)
Ranking in order for who I would like to see:
1.) Someone new outside of the county(Arey, etc)
2.) Williams. hate to see him leave Latham tho.
3.)Robertson
4.)Miller
5.) Lockery

I don't quite get all the Lockery hate. Us over here at PV have been pretty happy with him, from what I have heard & seen. He has held the program to a standard, really cares about the kids, and gotten more out of the last few groups that most other coaches would have!

Not sure if you signed in with the wrong name and responded or not, lol. You’re talking about guys that went back to the school they were from though. That’s not what your other username said, it talked about recruits.
