Over the last 6 years, the 2 sectionals have been back and forth as far as regional final representatives:

D3 Regional Finals at Athens:

2010: Chesapeake 63, Ironton 47
2011: Portsmouth 69, Chesapeake 68
2012: Portsmouth 50, Ironton 40
2013: Ironton 66, Oak Hill 49
2014: Columbus Bishop Ready 38, Lucasville Valley 33
2015: Columbus Eastmoor Academy 49, Portsmouth 45

Over those 6 years, only Portsmouth in 2012 was able to advance to the D3 state championship game, losing 53-37 to Cincinnati Summit Country Day. Both Columbus schools lost in the state semifinals. No D3 SE District has won the state title since the OHSAA went to 4 divisions in 1988.

Portsmouth could be a difficult team to seed come the draw. The Trojans may have as many as 6 or 7 losses, but typically many teams try to keep PHS out of their bracket.

Division 3 will be very tough in SE Ohio this year.

Just looking at some "projections"....

1st round would have Wheelersburg/Minford in a 4/5 matchup. That would be a good game! Ironton could potentially knock off anybody, they will be dangerous.

Wheelersburg/Minford vs. Valley in a district semi. Great matchup!

Fairland vs. Portsmouth in a district semi. Great matchup!

Lynchburg vs. Alexander in a district semi. Great matchup!

The Convo is going to be fun this year!

Crab's Brother: The Trojans might be justified a #3 at this point, but our schedule doesn't set up well to keep that projection. Ironton twice, at Chesapeake, at Fairland, and at Gallia Academy (traditionally tough game for PHS), all before the draw. What might help 5-5 Portsmouth is that there are so many teams right now under .500 at Waverly.

Portsmouth has lost 4 games by 8 points or less. Valley by 8, Fairland by 6, South Point by 2 (buzzer beater), and Africentric by 7. The biggest margin of defeat was 13 by 1 loss Huntington St.Joe, a game in which the Trojans had the lead early in the 4th quarter.

Wherever the Trojans are seeded, they won't be an easy out in the tourney, based on their track record. 4 times in the last 5 years they have advanced to at least the district championship game, with 3 appearances in the regional final and 2 in the Final 4. That resume is the best in the SE District over that time span.

It will be very interesting to see who gets the #1 seed at Waverly, with Valley and Lynchburg Clay both undefeated to this point. Valley I believe has played the tougher schedule, but that doesn't guarantee a #1 seed because of unpredictable voting.

Also Eastern Brown will be a tough out for anybody. They gave the Trojans all they could handle Saturday at the Beast of the Southeast.

Looking at remaining schedules, I don't see Portsmouth higher than #5 based on who they play and who everyone else plays. Unless the Trojans can get a couple of wins. Coaches seem to go by records than strength of schedule. Although they have talent (one of the greatest of all time) still not your normal Portsmouth team.JMO

I think it's completely updated. There could be a couple of games from last night that I missed though.

Mine at Waverly

1. Valley- 11-2
2. Lynchburg- 12-1
3. Adena- 11-3
4. Portsmouth - 8-5
5. Westfall- 9-5
6. North Adams- 9-5
7. Eastern- 8-6
8. Zane Trace- 8-7

Pretty sure there will be a lot of jockeying to avoid Portsmouth.

You may want to also factor in Fairland got beat by Valley, Minford beat Valley and Chesapeake beat Valley. I see it as:

1. Fairland or Minford
2. Fairland or Minford
3. Chesapeake
4. Alexander unless they beat Vinton county"

Fairland beat Chesapeake on Fairland's home court in a rivalry game.

Valley beat Fairland at a neutral court.

Chesapeake beat Valley at a neutral court.
