Re: D-IV Northwest Sectional Finals
People are saying the SHAC is weak. I saw LC scrimmage P-Clay and absolutely murdered P-Clay. I'd take LC over the Tartans by at least 10 points. Eastern Brown IMO would also beat these teams. If the SOC is so great why were these games not blowouts? Fairfield held a lead through 3 quarters? Basketball this year is wide open and really it matters who shows up to play and not strictly off of conference strength.
Re: D-IV Northwest Sectional Finals
Well the first irrelevant word you used is "scrimmage." Lynchburg Clay is very good let me start off with that, but a scrimmage doesn't amount to a hill of beans.Basketball365247 wrote:People are saying the SHAC is weak. Two, Eastern Brown and Lynchburg are D3. SOC 1 is all SMALL D4 teams (all comfortably within D4 parameters).
I believe it's the overall balance of the SOC's that people are arguing it being the better of the two conferences. SOC 1 has 4 very good teams and an extremely dangerous 5th team (Western). SOC 2 has 5 very good teams and an extremely dangerous 6th team (S. Webster). Both South Webster and Western are talented enough to win the district in D4 (I am by NO MEANS saying they will, I'm just saying it wouldn't surprise me. Can the middle of the pack D4 SHAC teams say that? Or the middle of the pack D3 SHAC teams?
That's the main point people are trying to make.

I would hope those teams could beat SOC 1 schools they are bigger D3 schools!Basketball365247 wrote:People are saying the SHAC is weak. I saw LC scrimmage P-Clay and absolutely murdered P-Clay. Re: D-IV Northwest Sectional Finals
And honestly, everyone is surprised East won the league. They have an absolute stud in Brown who when he shows up, is as good as any D4 player in SE Ohio (if not the best). And a D1 lineman down low in Scott who has great footwork and is physical.
After those two, nobody can figure out how they've won some of the games they have. They have shown up for some big games (beating Eastern twice, and ND twice), then lose to South Webster and then got absolutely dismantled by Clay by 30+.
They're what you would call a VERY "hit and miss" team. But hey, they're at the Convo and that's all that matters this time of year!

Everyone is easily upset on this thread. SHAC is down and SOC 1 is better than normal. Hard to not agree with that IMO.
Good luck to all these teams that are headed to the Convo.

Putnum had to have at least 40 points tonight also for Fairfield. Good job Fairfield. Good luck to East at the Convo.SHACFan wrote:Fairfield played well, just could not match-up with Brown.

Ironman92, I'm not sure why you continue to to put the SHAC down. I think the SHAC was competitive in the sectionals. I also think the SOC played very well this evening. I don't get to see the SOC very often, so I don't want to speculate how strong their conference was through out the year. Brown appeared to be the best D4 player in the area this evening. Good luck to the sectional winners.

I agree. When Fairfield put #10 on Brown in the first half,I thought he played good defense on Brown. Why didn't the Coach put him back in after halftime. He was able to force Akia left which worked well.SHACFan wrote:I mean defensively.Rodeo1 wrote:Putnum had to have at least 40 points tonight also for Fairfield. Good job Fairfield. Re: D-IV Northwest Sectional Finals
Brown can go left or right, trust me. 43 points(without a single 3 point basket ) I don't think #10 could've slowed him down at all(He has been zoned, face guarded, double and triple teamed all year and still avg about 20 plus) . When Brown plays like he played tonight for 4 periods with a sense of urgency there's not too many that will slow him down. Fairfield played a great game, East is on to the convo...hopefully their other players step up like they have been lately. I guess that's what happens when you don't have 1 senior.Rodeo1 wrote:I agree. When Fairfield put #10 on Brown in the first half,I thought he played good defense on Brown. Thought the Clay team played well tonight. We saw good defense, rebounding and balanced scoring. I was one of a few that knew they were capable of winning. Not bad for all those juniors, not one senior dressed. Lower seed as I stated.
Re: D-IV Northwest Sectional Finals
Yes they did...hopefully they can knock off trimble as well. It doesn't matter where you're seeded because the bottom line is you just have to win. I'm going for all S.O.C. 1 schools.rosemount guy wrote:Thought the Clay team played well tonight. We saw good defense, rebounding and balanced scoring. Best basketball I've seen Clay play all year. Defense was swarming, if Clay can play like that at the Convo than they may be able to make some noise. I thought Peebles would of tried to get out and pressure more than what they did.
Re: D-IV Northwest Sectional Finals
Two very exciting games last night! As expected in this loaded sectional.
Looking forward to two more exciting ones tonight with South Webster vs. Eastern followed by Notre Dame vs. Western.
