Re: Vinton County (20-4) vs Fairfield Union (21-4) - DII District final
Both teams coming out of the Logan sectional.
VC is a scrappy bunch, have a couple of bigs in Wood and Caudill and a terrific point guard in Bartoe.
FU reminds me of a sneaky good boxer with a deadly left hook. You go a few rounds with them, you think you are winning in points, then BAM! You wake up on the mat wondering what happened. They have some outstanding shooters on the perimeter and a monster in the middle.
This outta be one heckuva championship game!

Coach barr sent me to scout VC once, I remember talking to people there and they were extremely nice. As far as the teamost on the court, I remember them being your typical SE team: physical, scrappy, and hustled everywhere. I'd assume this VC team since coached by the same coach (sorry his name is on the tiPhone of my toungues but can't remember it), they'll play about the same way.
Fu on the other hand is about the same. Big man down low who plays really well. A senior guard who's calm and smooth. Then some guys who can really shoot it. Lately they've been cold for most of games but then heat up when they needed it most. Would like to see them start out the game next week quicker and put VC on the chase.
Should be an awesome game and I'll be listening and hoping for an FU win!

They will beat Indian Valley by 30. Most top teams in East went to Belmont district to avoid JG.

That be awesome! Edgell and the Mayle Man coming to Athens to face Whitehall or Desales.

VC will beat Fairfield Union by a comfortable margin. Combs will be a couple of jumps ahead of FU's coach from the opening tip. Now, John Glenn may be a different story.

I don't think it will be that easy. Unless FU goes cold from the outside. They have a real potent combination, a true 'stud' in the paint and 4 dead eyes lurking around the 3-point line. You double down on Woodside, and it leaves a shooter open. You defend the arc - and Woodside can eat you up underneath.Spud wrote:VC will beat Fairfield Union by a comfortable margin. Its not impossible to defend, but tough. Which will make the game a good one, IMO.

Re: Vinton County (20-4) vs Fairfield Union (21-4) - DII District final
I got the chance to watch both of these teams last Friday at the Convo. I feel both of them took a while to get settled on the big stage. Once they did it seemed they both took control of the game. Both managed to do what they do best VC was able to attack the basket in the 2nd half which created open looks on the outside and got them to the foul line. FU was able to get the ball to their big which allowed for open looks for their guards/snipers. At 1 point FU hit 4 threes in what seemed like 45 seconds.
I look for a great game between these two quality programs. Also, wouldn't be surprised if these 2 wind up here next year as well. Both return a lot.

just to clear it up FU did win a share of the MSL with Logan elm, ended up beating BC on senior night, and then beating Circleville at Circleville for a share of the title. good luck to the boy with the torn acl my son Logan is a senior for FU and he tore his twice he also played on it and made it through the majority of his senior season but went down during a game and had to be done. He had surgery and removed 50% of his meniscus and replaced the ACL. good luck to both teams.Ty Webb wrote:Here is the latest release of the Viking Roundball Podcast.
