I know Africentric is very good, but in the tournament they were in one of the weakest districts if not the weakest in the state of Ohio. Good luck to Trimble.

Yeah, agreed. The Carroll 1 district was honestly really weak. The Carroll 2, however, was much tougher, though to be fair all of those teams didn't want to face Africentric that early.

They weren't challenged at all until the district final vs Danville, and they led by 15 to start the fourth in that one.

Worth noting that this senior class at Africentric were freshmen on the Nubian squad that didn't make it out of districts, '12-13, when they got upset by Danville. I think they're mature enough to realize they're on the regional stage & Trimble is no joke, similar to last year. This will be the first game that they won't be in complete control of.

Predicting an A-High win, but they're facing Howie & Trimble never says die. It wouldn't be a huge upset if the Tomcats won.



As for who they return, they have at least two kids who've played at the Convo before in Gordon-Haynes & Houston Smith. Same coach as previous years.

Say what you want about Howie but he can coach. Wasn't it Africentric that knocked his eastern team out of the regionals (or state semis?) back in the mid 2000's?

They beat my Portsmouth Trojan by double digits early in the year. Very athletic as always.

Actually, Africentric beat the Trojans 57-50.

Africentric may have come through a weak district, but their regular season schedule was very difficult. The Nubians faced plenty of competition playing in the Columbus City League, and they also beat Chillicothe and Portsmouth non-conference. The fact that Trimble played them last year in the regionals should help the Tomcats. If they can adjust to the speed and quickness of the Nubians, and especially box out on the boards, Trimble could pull the upset. The 6-5 center on Africentric could be a very difficult matchup for Trimble.

Talked to Coach Caldwell at the Northwest sectional. Really enjoyed chatting with him, he's a really good guy with some great stories. Has over 400 wins in his outstanding career.

Nubians lead 21-20 with 5:14 left in the half. Tomcats led 16-14 after 1.
