A school in one of the poorest Districts in the state that churns out home grown local talent, that has been to multiple sweet 16s in baseball, back to back sweet 16s in basketball, a state title game appearance and final 4 appearance in football, fans who are as loud as any in the area, and coaches who went to Trimble and stayed in the area because they love it. It may not be GREAT to you, but it is GREAT to all of us who scream Tomcat Pride. GO Cats

Trimble is a GREAT program with GREAT COACHES and they had a GREAT basketball season.

This one was tough, the 'Cats had it in their grasp - but couldn't quite close the door. Knowing that Africentric beat Wellington this year makes it even worse. Trimble could have very well ended up at the Schott in the final 4.

That is a fair assessment about Trimble being good but not great...HOWEVER ,they are as homegrown as your going to get.Never a move in or transfer that has a huge impact in any sport.But they sure do churn out some ball players and outside of Glouster most love to see them lose....peroid.In my opinion,Trimble's league hurts them when it comes to games like this.You cannot simulate speed &strength whether it be basketball or football.No disrespect but it just does.That's why the MAC(Coldwater,Marion Local)schools win State championship after championship in about every sport because there league prepares them for competition.Anyway,Trimble is a GREAT small PUBLIC school....The envy of many...JMO

The MAC schools definitely benefit from playing in such a tough conference. However, many of those schools are in fairly wealthy small-to-medium towns with (typically) an above average income level. That may not sound too relevant, but it most certainly is.

I have heard the preparation tidbit about Trimble's league not preparing them - yet they reach a state championship in football, then get back to the semis a year later. Coldwater, Marion Local, the Might Mac is a freak of nature, an anomaly in high school sports - so don't use them as an example. Trimble has beaten everyone in their region for awhile now - and have eventually lost to some of the best small school teams the state of Ohio has to offer. Losing to Marion Local, Norwalk St. Paul, Africentric and Newark Catholic or Berlin Highland in baseball. It's pretty darn great they get to play these teams in the post season - and a lot of times are very competitive. They lost to the Nubians by 8 last year, 6 this year, lost by 1 run in the regionals in baseball last spring - and lets add a victory over Berlin Center Western Reserve in their in football.

One last thing - if you cannot simulate speed and strength - and can't win on the big stage because of the weak league you play in - how did Eastern win a state title in girls basketball two years ago? How did Waterford make it to the finals last year? How did they get there this year? How did a Hocking team make it to the final four for four consecutive (and counting) years?

Devils advocate in me says its 50% in part to having some exceptional girls sports teams, and 50% of it is that the Central District D4 is rather weak in girls sports, especially basketball. Outside of Newark Catholic, the Central District D4 doesn't have a traditionally good girls sports program... outside of maybe Berne Union. I said on the girls BBK forum that SW/Waterford regional semi had the two best teams. Looks like I was right about it.

That's not to discredit all that Eastern & Waterford achieve(d) (you can't argue state titles, of course). But to not acknowledge that really lackluster (girls) sports programs in the bottom half of the TVC Hocking exist on a sport-by-sport basis is blind, in my opinion.

Trimble has a very good boys basketball team, but an 18 game league schedule probably is a blessing and a curse. They got as far as they did because of the work they put in and what they've built, not because they played the bottom 3rd of the Hocking twice.
