Re: OVC 2016
Who does it look like will make up Irontons backfield this year? I know we had a Freshmen (Tanner Wilson) that started before he was injured. Does anyone know how he's doing?

Re: OVC 2016
i think this year will be
1. ironton
2 chesapeake
3. coal grove
4. rock hill
5. portsmouth
6. south point
7. fairland
9. gallia academy.... it will be a long year for the blue devils. they may surprise and finish a little further up. but i think only 5 seniors. most of the talent will be freshmen and sophomores. big key will be the start if they start 0-3 young team may get frustrated and beat up.

Re: OVC 2016
I would agree. The 2010 team I honestly thought was going to be in the State Finals, and potentially win it all. I was able to catch them play Bishop Hartley in the playoffs that year ( GREAT ball game.) I was expecting Ironton to win it in a tough one, and if I remember right Ironton was on top for a bit, and Hartley kind of snuck up from behind with field goals here and field goals there. I think Hartley did win the D4 championship that year, but I believe if Ironton beats Hartley that night, then the crown would have been theirs.YOU'RE TIGER BAIT wrote:honestly I don't think ironton has played to their potential in 7/8 years.can they get things back to normal again for them. they set a high bar. time to re-claim some crowns.

Re: OVC 2016
Correct as I remember they actually beat Hartley in the regular season after losing the two weeks before to Jackson and Marion Franklin (?? maybe Alder or a Columbus team as I recall).Stan_Marsh wrote:I would agree. The regular season win over Hartley wasn't close as I remember either, and yes Hartley did win it all that year.

2010
Ironton beat Hartley 37-16 in the regular season and lost to them in the Playoffs 20-26
Ironton had 2 regular season losses, they lost to Jackson in 3 OT's and to Alder.

Yep, I remember the Tigers being the favorite in the play-off game due to the regular season win.
Wasn't there an injury or something that happened to one of Ironton's player prior to or in that playoff game? Or am I mistaken?

Re: OVC 2016
That game was played at Logan and Ironton had the game won when they held Hartly on fourth down but a ref call a unsportmanslike celabration on the Ironton player who broke up the pass. It was the worst call I ever seen in high school games I have watch and I have see a lot of games. Hartly with a new set of downs went on to score on a 60 yard drive. Ironton was driving late in that game for a score and the same ref through another pendlety that kill Irontons drive. Hartly went to the state and beat the other team so bad it was not funny. I got into it with some guy on the Ironton side cause he just wouldn't shut up. I thought he was from Hartly but found later he was from Logan. I guess I just wasn't in the mood to take any crap that night cause it was already going to be a long ride home to Dayton.

I was about to say the very same thing runner. that and we tackled very poorly all night. nothing but busted arm tackles. they had an awesome running back that went to Indiana I think. but I remember these calls like it was yesterday.

Re: OVC 2016
I think that runningback for Hartley was Key (that's the last name, not an intended pun) Indiana is probably where he went, it seems they've been sending players to MAC schools and small Big 10 schools recently a lot. What all does Rock Hill have back this season? They should be a tough out I believe.

Re: OVC 2016
Hearing backfield is loaded, offensive line is small and defensive line is decent. Also heard we had four come in from other schools but can't confirm if this is true (other than a kid from Georgia who used to live up here, moved back to Georgia and has recently returned).

Re: OVC 2016
IMO Chesapeake will win the OVC they have very talented and fast skill players one of which runs like a 4.5 40 and is a great athlete, they also have QB and a few other players that run their 40 in under 5.0. They return one all conference lineman in Meadows and will have to fill some holes around him due to graduation last year. The skill players I spoke of earlier are Fletcher, Mccomas, Bartrum, Wilcoxin and Browning. They will be able to spread the ball around to these guys hopefully they will find a few linemen for them to run behind. It will be a four team race Ironton, Peake, Coal Grove and Rock Hill. Also I feel like Fairland will be much improved from last year.
