I seen pics of the kid that moved back from Georgia, he's a stud in Football and Basketball. He's a 6'3 215lb RB with good speed for his size.Pop80 wrote:Hearing backfield is loaded, offensive line is small and defensive line is decent. one thing for sure as a poster pointed out about the peake panthers. this may not be a premiere football league at the present time. but it is as fair as they come by. no private schools, no big size difference with Gallia academy being the largest. the talent pools are basically the same. it's about as even steven as you can get. it will come down to coaching and desire.

Re: OVC 2016
Hard to believe we are 1 month out from Previews....
Here are my top questions going into the 2016 OVC Season:
1. Will this be the year that a county school finally knocks off Ironton?
2. Can RH sustain last year's success or was it a one season deal?
3. Can Portsmouth assert itself as a top half OVC program?
4. Can Coach Kidd keep CG going in the right direction?
5. Can Peake make the run for the OVC title?
6. Which school will have the most discontented fan base?
7. Will this be the season that breaks the coaches in their school's hot seat?
8. Which school (Fairland, South Point or Gallia) will play the main role of spoiler?
Best of luck to all programs, schools, coaches and most importantly prayers for a healthy season for all the Players, Cheerleaders & Band Members that give us our Friday Nights!!

Re: OVC 2016
PopeSnoopDogThe1st: I'll answer questions 3 and 6:
3. Can Portsmouth assert itself as a top half OVC program? Right now, I'm not optimistic about the Trojans doing that, simply because we were pounded by Ironton, Coal Grove, Chesapeake, and Rock Hill last year. All those games were blowouts, and in addition we have traditionally struggled with Gallia Academy, who whipped us regularly when we were in the SEOAL. Coal Grove and Chesapeake are on the road this year. There are just too many questions to ponder about PHS and no clear answers. It simply will take Coach Duncan more time to turn things around. 24-56 in the last 8 years cannot be fixed in 1 or 2 years. We have to get our participation numbers up........I went to the Coldwater vs. Wheelersburg playoff game, and the number of kids playing for those two schools was impressive. If we can get numbers similar to those then I think we will see Portsmouth football make a comeback.
6. Which school will have the most discontented fan base? I have to think that no fan base in the OVC has turned away in droves more than fans of the Trojans. As the 2015 season winded down to the last several games, Trojan Coliseum was at least half empty on the home side, maybe even more than that. No lines at the concession stands......it was not a pretty sight.
Whatever is the outcome of the 2016 Trojan football season, I will be there cheering for the Men of Troy, win or lose, good or bad. GO TROJANS!!!

Re: OVC 2016
Here is a question: Which out of conference match ups for the OVC will be key?
If an OVC team picks up a win or two or even starts 3-0 against out of conference teams, then that could provide a lot of second level points in the playoff hunt. For example, when Chesapeake beat Alexander(who went 9-1) in week 2, and then Rock Hill and Ironton both beat Chesapeake in league play, that win for Peake was a factor that helped boost all three teams into the playoffs in 2015.
Which games on the OVC team's out of conference schedule are winnable?

I WASN'T SURE, AWESOME. NOT LIKELY A YOUNG'UN TALKED HIS FAMILY INTO RELOCATING/MOVING FROM SUNNY, WARM GA. TO PLAY FOOTBALL AT IRONTON. I TAKE IT THE FAMILY HAS TIES OR RELOCATED, BUT BE SURE OF THIS.------------- IT NEVER HAPPENS ANYWHERE BUT IRONTON RIGHT.ohbuckeye2 wrote:Our team BaitYOU'RE TIGER BAIT wrote:Pop80 wrote:Hearing backfield is loaded, offensive line is small and defensive line is decent. Re: OVC 2016
I have no idea of course if he is from here.or has family here. I know gabe lewis lives in Atlanta, ga. but he grew up here in ironton with a whole heap of other lewis men from that family. and I have no idea how many kids gabe and Cheryl, I believe is her name had or if they are grown now. I would have to assume they are.----------------- it may not even be a situation other than wanting to get a youth out of the inner school systems in these enormous cities. who knows , but good luck to the young'un, whoever it is in ga. or ohio.

2. Yes, good athletes in the pipeline
3. Unquestionably yes, but not this year maybe next
4. Don't know
5. I think so
6. Ironton, too much expectations based on the past
7. Good question not sure
8. Fairland or SP could perform this role, Gallia has a way to go

Re: OVC 2016
I don't think 1 will happen this year. Irontons backfield is going to be loaded, probably will be the best backfield we've had in quite some time. IF our line steps up watch out for the Fighting Tigers.YOU'RE TIGER BAIT wrote:not sure 1 will happen. we wear the crown till it gets took down. but the ovc played the tigers close last year.
Re: OVC 2016
Ironton had a loaded backfield last year and especially the year before that. It also takes team defense. Ironton will be better than what some think but they will be tested in ovc.

1. I don't think so. Maybe this season will show signs of years to come, but I don't think Ironton gets knocked off yet.
2. I think they will continue their success
3. Not yet, but maybe another season here soon
4. I would assume so
5. I think they will absolutely make a run for the title. Ironton will have to be my pick though.
6. As stated earlier, Ironton, not a diss at the fan base even, but compared to the past going to the playoffs and being one and done, or even having a winning season and just missing the playoffs is considered a below average season. Expectations are high there and I think that is a good thing.
7. I would have to get more familiar with who would be considered to be on their schools hot seat to answer that.
8. South Point.

This is interesting. Most of what i heard has been not very optimistic. In fact it has been gloom and doom. Thinking back from last year to what would be returning to our backfield this year makes me see the same. What has changed ? Who is lined up back there?ohbuckeye2 wrote:I don't think 1 will happen this year. Irontons backfield is going to be loaded, probably will be the best backfield we've had in quite some time.
