Going to say push on the defense advantage for burg. While yet they were still fast to the ball, their tackling looked weak, hopefully they get that shored up. I still believe burg wins by two touchdowns. Burgs offense has big play capability.wobycat wrote:Let's look at this objectively, not because I saw the athletes and compared them.
Coaching - advantage burg. Coach vass has not been given much help because Ironton has changed so much in the last 5 years. The population of students have dwindled to burgs size. Since then burg has had the advantage.
Special teams - advantage burg. Burg always has potential for element of surprise plus they execute it well.
Defense - advantage burg. I only give the advantage to burg here because of what I saw in Chillicothe scrimmage. They are very fast to the ball. I've not seen Irontons defense but until they prove they can defend the pass, burg gets the nod.
Offense - edge to Ironton. Ironton has the big line and I'm going on the fact that overall the backfield will be more physical according to the Ironton posters. I'm not buying Scott as good as Palladino until I see it. Palladino was really good. Burg is ushering in a new line and a new QB. For that edge goes to Ironton.
This will all be settled by the players on the field and not by us posters, whom honestly have no idea what will happen.
Wheelersburg 49 Ironton 6

As far as big play threats, #4 and #2 should be fun to watch this year for the Pirates.

Give Russell credit they played well but it also looked like Wheelersburg was rotating some guys in and out quite a bit that may not get as much playing time come next week especially on the defensive side of the ball.
Re: WEEK 1 IRONTON @WHEELERSBURG -- YOUR THOUGHTS.
That may be true but burg has to get more physical. Especially if they want to duplicate last year. Talent wise they have it but they need to improve in that area.
Re: WEEK 1 IRONTON @WHEELERSBURG -- YOUR THOUGHTS.
Talent the Burg has, compared to last year defense, they will not be close. Last years defense is as good as it gets around here.

I keep telling anybody that will listen Russell, Ashland, beechwood, ky, belfry. Johnson central. these are teams that can play with any ohio team their size and be very competitive. these are not slouches by any means or gimmes, you better be strapped up tight. people need to be aware they got the same kind of river boys there we do. their playoff system is a joke. but they are tough.

Re: WEEK 1 IRONTON @WHEELERSBURG -- YOUR THOUGHTS.
I have a feeling this will be the most competitive game between ironton and burg in many moons. if you can't get up for this game. you ain't gonna get up. what worries me is people making comments we are loafing basically. and not trying hard/ or it could be we are not very good as well. I'm taking nothing from Portsmouth or west. I didn't see either. but if you are not serious for a scrimmage against other river rats. then we could have a more serious problem. because it sounds like we have the horses the number , speed and size. let's see what they can do with it now.

Re: WEEK 1 IRONTON @WHEELERSBURG -- YOUR THOUGHTS.
Ironton may have kids out. They may be sandbagging a bit on play calling. But when you get whipped on both sides of the ball like they did last night that says something. Your not going to throw a couple different kids in then flip a switch and become good.

Both teams have a lot on the line and will hopefully come out and play their best. The heat will be an issue so the most conditioned team will have the upper hand. As far as points go, I think ironton has more on the line. This is the game I will attend this week. Good luck to both teams.
Re: WEEK 1 IRONTON @WHEELERSBURG -- YOUR THOUGHTS.
They will all be condition by game day. We have most ready Monday, one will be eligible Tuesday. We still have a few who aren't going to ready until next week.fbnut wrote:Have all these kids you keep talking about not playing until next week injured? I guess you also watched the other four kids who will be starting next week in some capacity who also didn't dress. West looks much better than they did in past years. They will win some games, maybe finish second or third to wheelersburg in the SOC. You didn't get Irontons best shot. Trust me, we have more than the four plays that we ran against West tonight. It was a great workout for the team though. It did identify a couple of areas we need to work on and got our second, third and freshman squads a great workout. I will let next week speak for itself to how good Ironton is. I will say West had some big boys on the line and in the backfield. If it had been a real game and Ironton was full go, I doubt it would have ended anywhere close. Again, wait until next week.

You all keep worrying about the score but the real vegas style action is the over and under on game stoppages for leg cramps!!! 7 is the line

that line could be moving with IBTT's (I bet it stands for - ironton's big tiger turd) report that more wont be getting going until next week so they will be out of shape....it's funny isn't it? the reason they will win for right now is they will be ready to get going 3-4 days before the 1st game; how much you want to bet when they lose his excuse will be because key elements of the team did not begin until 3-4 days before the 1st game

Are you saying that you will have a new 11 starting on Friday? And will all of a sudden be in shape? Burg just faced a running back that will lead the area in the top of the rushing category. The burg will be prepared for whom ever touches the ball.IBTT wrote:They will all be condition by game day. We have most ready Monday, one will be eligible Tuesday. I seriously doubt Russell Kentucky leads anyone in anything. If so, it will be their first time ever to do so. Not to mention, they lost most of their line to graduation last year. Ironton played many of their seconds to start the game Friday. Not to mention, when they played West they had just finished a quarter of scoring 21 points against Westfall and holding them scoreless when West took a quarter off to rest. I'm sure a 15+ minute break helps out to rest your team. Ironton ran four offensive plays against West, two runs by the second team backs and two pass plays that didn't get executed correctly. Other than that it was Defense for Ironton, and again there will be at least three kids playing on Defense that couldn't play Friday. Burg game will be a good yard stick early on to see where both teams are. These should be the team's to beat in southern Ohio this year.

Re: WEEK 1 IRONTON @WHEELERSBURG -- YOUR THOUGHTS.
IBTT a few posts back you said the starting fullback had a long run to start the west scrimmage and now you say that EVERY carry against west was from second team backs. It's amazing to me to think Ironton has 13 starters out when you can only play 11! That's my try a humor but that's kinda what it sounds like! so Irontons starters aren't getting reps in scrimmages is what you are saying and others say they look out of shape I'm sure they will all be in perfect game shape after just 4 more days of practice. Then you call somebody names and say you're going to report him for uneducated post, why? Bc his thoughts aren't as outlandish and unbelievable as yours? If anybody should be reported for unintelligent posts it would be none other than IBTT and I'm sure the rest of the posters would agree with that! I'm an OVC fan and I want to see Ironton do well but you make me want to cheer against them.

Was the scrimmage against West Portsmouth or Westfall this past Friday night? I know Ironton used to have their Jamboree game against West Portsmouth, but I'm hearing conflicting reports that Ironton played Westfall (SVC) Pickway county; Willliamsport, Ohio.
I just went 85 yards straight thru the heart of the south- Ezekiel Elliott 1/1/15

Have to agree with this. IBTT cmon man, you don't gotta call names and what not. I like your passion for your team, talking smack itself isn't even bad, but stay away from the name calling and threats about reporting to admins and stuff. The guy was not even bashing any kids, he was relaying that he heard the kid was recruited by an FCS which was contradicting to other reports on here of claims that it was FBS schools. He's aloud to do that, and your aloud to disagree, but keep it football talk, not personal talk.fred_flinstone wrote:IBTT a few posts back you said the starting fullback had a long run to start the west scrimmage and now you say that EVERY carry against west was from second team backs. Scrimmage was at Westfall. Portsmouth West, Ironton, and Westfall all played alternating quarters. At least 1 quarter of varsity and 1 quarter of jv against each team.85yards wrote:Was the scrimmage against West Portsmouth or Westfall this past Friday night?
