Regional Semi: South Point vs Sugar Creek Garaway

Does anyone know anything about garaway? I looked on max preps and we don't have any common opponents and they didn't have any stats listed.

The only thing that I know is they are #9 on the girls state division III AP poll.


But that really doesn't mean anything now because anything could happen come tournament time.


It will be a tough game...I really hope SP can win because if they do, they would get to play the winner of Oak Hill and Wheelersburg. That would be so exciting to see the pointers get to play another local team that far into the tournament.

looks like a similar team as Adena, one player averaging nearly half of the teams points per game, Laura Bardall # 10- 5'11". Good thing about this game for SP is it sounds like a very similar match up situation for us. contain her and the team struggles to score.....hopefully

Well if this team is similar to Adena then it sounds like it will be another exciting game! Hopefully they will go with the zone again and double team Garaway's big threat. I think the key to this win is hitting their foul shots and handling the ball very well with limited amount of turnovers.

When Garaway played Ironton two years ago they played stall ball.I dont think they did that on purpose either, it's their style.So unless something has changed look for them to keep the ball pass it around and look for the best shot possible on every possesion.Doesn't make for enjoying basketball but you have to do what you can to win I guess...In contrast, it seemed to me that SP is more of a running team, so its a contrast in styles for sure.Bardall is Garaways best player.

Get ready to slow it down. Run their offense better than anyone in the state. I think that South Point with their athleticism can make it a faster paced game and control the tempo.

Yeah I saw some of Garaway's scores and wow there were some very low scoring games...so you are right, they must slow it down big time and take their time running their offense.


South Point is pretty good at pressing and bringing the pressure...hopefully they can shake things up a bit and force it to be a little more fast paced.


I was wondering if you knew if this game was going to be on the radio. If so, who is carrying the game? Someone was asking me the other day and I had no idea!

Ya. Garaway takes their time running their plays. They slow the game down big time. Occasionally they will run a fast tempo. They did once but it didnt work out for them. I know a lot of people from Garaway and (personally) GO PIRATES!

They will pretty much force you to play their tempo no matter how much more athletic your team might be.Ironton had a more athletic team in 06' than SP has now and they still had to play at Garaway's pace.If you run with them and miss your shots it going to be a long night.Ironton matched wits with them and even had a final shot in one of the ot's but missed.You have to value the basketball and hit all your shots to beat Garaway.

Well, I hope the Lady Pointers can handle their style of playing.


Since everyone is saying Garaway plays at such a patient and slow paced, then I wonder how they are at defending a team that is fast paced and brings a lot of pressure.


I guess we will find out in a couple of days!

#3,#5,#6,#8,#10,#11,#12,#13 have already been put out of the tournament so there is no reason why we can't beat the #9 team

Good Luck Lady Blue and Dave....it took a while, so play your best and bring it on! BTW..since SP was never ranked that we are aware of, does this put them in any rankings at all or is it a wait see what happens deal? Anyway, GO BLUE!
