I played for OZ and did not get much time but enjoyed every minute of it. I would give my intrest in H@#@ to have one more shot at it. Especially my senior year. Someone will step up and someone will become a better player for doing so. I will take 12 kids who want to be there over 5 who do and 7 who dont. GO BLUE

oz as in wizard of
this man is a terrible person to play for i did and hated every minute of it. he can drain all the fun and take all the credit quicker than a democrat can raise taxes. i appaude these boy, the sooner this coach is gone the better. it'll oniy be 20 years too late
what a minute
did you play sports? you sound like one of these people who watched and thought eveything was great. we had good teams despite oz it was never him... it was us. he just took the credit.
if you did not play you do not know. be quiet. these boy are doing a couragous thing. they are giving up their 12th grade to make a statement.

Fasteach, I played for OZ as well and I know what you are saying. Most older people will take up for him but have never been in one of the practices or boring games. I hear people say that he has taken weeker teams and won some games on the other hand he has had some great talent that has went nowhere. I have watched him over the years and he seems to not coach much anymore. Watch coach Vanmeter or coach peirson and watch them coach, Oz used to coach with enthusiasim. Enough being negative, If people do not think he knows basketball then they are crazy. The boys today like a more up and down game and Gallipolis just does not do that, most post players like to face the basket now but we still post up on ulmost every possesion. Oz is a good coach and will coach whoever plays . Like I said before I would give anything to have my senior year over again, but these boys have to make there own decision, they are not heros or cowards for the decisions they make.
Get a life
I have been around over a half century fasteach..I've played and seen more basketball than you'll see in your lifetime...If you didn't like what ypu were doing if you played for Oz, why did you play?
Oldschoolfan...Rick and Norm have had many successful seasons, but like GAHS, neither have been to the big show in Columbus.

got one
last word from me on this. if you are over 50 the chances are good you never played for oz. i did. i know what i am talking about. at least 1 other person on this tread did and agrees. we where there can you say that?
he came to gahs in 75(?). "I" did,or do, not like him. you can, others do. i do not care. my opinion is what it is. you don't have to like it, you don't have to agree. why you want to turn this personal i do not know. let's stop all the negative. you can like who you want and so will i.

I have played and/or coached for over 30 years at all levels.
I will agree that the environment of high school basketball has changed. There is rarely a "team" attitude any more. It is all about "me". If you don't believe me ask any coach if they get questions about playing time from players or parents yet there team is winning. Coaches like OZ still believe in promoting team first and I guess that does not sit well with some of "todays" players and or parents. "What can or did you do for me?".
I have set in the stands at games scouting teams and/or players and listen to the "coaches" in the stands and it is actually quite humors at times. When they speak it becomes quite clear they know nothing about the game only that their "little Johnny" should play more or get more shots etc.
Oz has helped players become better players but more importantly he has helped them become bette people. You in Gallia should be happy and proud about that.

Your're right, bassmaster
You are right, bassmaster...Oz came here to start the 1969-70 campaign, and got the GAHS cage program turned around after 10 or 11 years of dismal last place or second division finishes in the SEOAL.
really last word
hey jottings, oz has been coach for 40 years, you are 50 years old, why did you not play for him when you had the chance. i think it's strange that the people on this thread, like me, who played do not know the coach, but you who never made it out of the stands do. i respect eveyone, even if you disagree, who where there. i don't like it when someone who has never been there tells me how it was. WE WHERE THERE. i may never know sports in your eyes, but at least i got sweaty. now if you was to talk about splinters from the bleachers i think you're opinion means more than mine. you probably know more about recliners than me. do what you do best watch

4ever - How right you are. Got a chance to play for Coach Ozborne on one those all star things for a couple of weeks w/ Gary Harrison and Chris Howard - a long time ago - this was Warren's first year in the league. I would have loved to have been able to play for him for even one season.
Oh by the way - I am pretty sure Gallia at least split with Warren last year. Which team do you think had more pure basketball talent?
Be careful Gallia fans - sometimes you don't realize how good it is until its gone!
