as a teacher, once you have worked 20 years and are 65 you can retire with full benefits. at the same time the school can hire you are a sort of sub. so you have your retirement and pay for subbing.. which was your job. it's not complicated or uncommon.

One way to try and fill the stands again is to make it afforable for families to go to the games. I believe the athletic department can afford to charge students less than $5.00.

I agree with bball here. Ryan Smith would make a great school board member. He has a background in finance he knows and understands budgets, we wouldn't be in the middle of a big school building project w/t the work ryan put in. We need business people to run the school board I know we have a accountant on the board now. We as a town need successful people to run the schools to make them successful.

Get your facts straight about GAHS

To any of you who are putting the bad mouth on Oz, my question is-Have you ever seen an Ohio Boys Basketball State Tournament? If you haven't, then you have simply no idea the huge gap between the talent we have seen there for over 45 years and what we see here in southern Ohio.-Over four decades I have personally seen no more than a 25 of our best stars from this area who could have played for those Division 11 and Div. 111 teams we have seen at the old St. John Arena, the Dayton Arena, and now the Value City Arena.-Even the small division schools can put kids that are from 6-6 up to 6-10 in and out of the games we've seen. Has Oz ever coached a player any taller than Gil Price and Jim Noe who were talented? Hey! Woody Hayes said "You Win With People". Sadly, as much as we love our southern Ohio kids they just can't compete with the teams from Columbus, Dayton, Cincinnati, because we just don't grow real tall, talented players down here very often. Ed Vuckovich from Marietta was the last of the really tall players to compete in the SEOAL. He was 6-9.

yea

offsides this isn't a negative on you. waterford has a kid 6'9" i think. they are a small school.vinton has a kid 6' 7" so it's rare but there are some kids who are tall. what is missing is summer reinforcements to strenthen the kids.

havent seen the kid from waterford... he might very well be 6'9. vinton co has nobody that is 6'7 unless it is a move in.

what are these summer reinforcements you are speaking of?

they had a kid that size i thought really good. the kid from waterford is 6'9" but he may have moved on. are you from tvc area? i don't believe they get alot of pub. and someone from vinton or waterford could tell you better than me. i'm from meigs. my son plays this year he is 6'6" at 16 so he will be 6'9" or 10"

The boy from Waterford is a legit 6'9". Watched him last year against South Gallia. Very slow though and not very strong. But he really is that tall.

Oz is a good coach and is respected more outside our community than in it, people know about Oz all across the state. That being said he is probably a little out of touch with young players and like it or not he can not coach forever and that does not meen the next coach will make Gallipolis the doormat of the SEOAL. I am a Oz fan and I often thought how many of his ex players have went on to coach basketball, whether it be rinky dink or high school or whatever. I know several, myself included and most of us coach the way we were taught because he taught the fundamentals as well as anyone, more importantly he taught you respect and that only you are accountable for your actions. I always thaught he was a good coach of basketball and of life.

I know this is basketball forum but I'll say one thing. The last few weeks I have heard ALOT of people say we need a change on the board.
Some have stated the outrages salary some people are making and its not worth the money were paying them. I asked them names and salaries and I was totally shocked.

Its has got me thinking maybe a change is in order. Just thinking but not sure yet.

GO OZ!!!!!!Were behind you

Bus trips can be in excess of $200 per bus and officials for an entire year cost about $18,000. And there is a lot more.
