I just think the rules for the LAST game are a little different than they are the rest of the season.
Some coaches pull all their Seniors so that they can get a standing "O" while others leave them in and let them finish their careers on the field.
I really don't have a problem with either one. Like I stated before, before you judge Coach Chauncey too harshly, get to know him and his past tendencies.... I am sure you will find that he was in no way trying to disgrace the Eagles.

Meigs finishes 6-4. As for Belpre fans complaining about who Meigs kept in the game, you should remember one thing. You can say you are the 2007 TVC champs. Meigs has only got to claim that title twice in like the last twenty years.

I am a Belpre fan and at first I was a bit confused why he left the players in but after a while anyone could see he wasn't trying to run the score up. English was just below 300 yards at the time. He was probably just trying to get him his yardage. I see nothing wrong with that. Hell the kid earned it.
After talking to Shriver he wasn't bothered by it at all. Nobody says you have to put your 2nd team in. There is no rule on that. Curtious YES. But like I said Meigs wasn't trying to run the score up. Heck they knelt the ball 4 times right after English got over 300 yards.

to tell you the truth that is what happened coach said he had 291 and we would give him the ball and he told him to dive once he got the 9 yardsotterslide wrote:I am a Belpre fan and at first I was a bit confused why he left the players in but after a while anyone could see he wasn't trying to run the score up. 300 Yards in a single game is a rare feat to be accomplished anywhere in high school football!
This was the last game for English and his last opportunity to hit this mile mark (he could have done it multiple times this year, but he was typically benched before he had the opportunity).
Probably if Meigs and Belpre had met sooner in the season it wouldn't have happened (English would have been benched and the back-ups inserted, just like they had been all season long).
It just so happens that these two teams met in the last game English will ever play in high school and he was allowed to play longer than usual. I really don't think it was anything against Belpre (they just happened to be the Week #10 opponent)

I just watched the replay of the Meigs-Belpre game. Meigs scored their last touchdown with 1:34 to go in the 3rd period. After English's 75 yard TD run and the kick by Metts, the camera showed the scoreboard. The seniors may have stayed in but there is no way the Coach Chancey ran the score up.
Best of luck to Belpre in the playoffs.
