D1 athletes in south eastern ohio

Post by BurgGrad6 »

Who are they? I know Blaine Scott from east. Other than that, who is being recruited and by who?

Trevor HIcks of Washington CH Guard has been offered a full Ride to Robert Morris College in PA, and some other smaller D1 schools have offered.

I hear Kory Henthorne, big lineman at Logan is talking to some smaller D1's.

Watch list for Jackson (seniors) would be Codey Roseberry and Cameron Williams.

Not for sure about schools, so I will stay out of that discussion until either of them make something official if they will continue their athletic careers.

Best of luck to them and the entire team.

It takes a lot for big time schools to look at the SE part of Ohio. We have them but they just can't be found.

If they are in SE Ohio then they will be found.

If you're a Senior and don't have a D1 Scholarship offer then you are not going to get one. You have to be on those D1 scholarship watch lists when you're a Sophomore or at the latest a Junior.

The athletes have to put some work in on there end to along with the coaches, if the athlete is good in SE they can be found. Over the years I have seen many good athletes come out of our area.

Reagan Williams (Jackson) - Stanford
Elijah Woolum (Jackson) - Air Force
Jaylen Prater (Wellston) - Northwestern

Off the top of my head, those are some guys from Jackson County that have just recently gone on to play at major D1 schools.

Tre Williams - Northwestern
Lutheran twins - Ohio
Some kid named Burrow - OSU
Gerald - OSU (hope I got that right)

And I disagree with several people's assertion that we have in SE Ohio. Our best players who've had the size and ability have had DI opportunities, and will continue too.

Thanks for mentioning Williams, Burrow, the Leuhrmans, and Tyler Gerald. I knew there were several other examples of guys going D1 from the immediate area in recent years, but my mind was drawing a blank on those pretty obvious examples.

Sounded like the topic is about kids in school now and not the past. Just do not hear about too many this year. Right off I only see one power house school in SEO and that looks to be Wheelersburg. Are scouts coming to Burg? Probably are. Right now, where are the boys to be found? So far we have six on the list. Most of the time you have a good year the year before and a lot of those boys coming back to have big time coaches to come into SEO. Too many times a boy can be looked at as a sophomore or JR. and come their senior year the team can be down and his performance will not be as good through the first half of the season and big time scouts seem to go elsewhere.

Too many athletes from this area when given a scholarship also fail to keep up with their collegiate commitments. They quit after a year or two. Not saying anyone in particular. Not trying to ruffle anyone's feathers. Just what I was told by some recruiters and coaches about the reputation of kids from this area. I've seen it happen myself. Makes it harder to offer an athlete from this area valuable scholarship money that could be used on an athlete more committed to playing football and getting an education for four years.

Cpt. Obvious,
Recent examples of those going, making it, and sticking with it:
Trevor Walls (Waverly) to New Mexico State
Derek Roback (Waverly) to Notre Dame transfer to Ohio University
Trevon Pendleton (Ports. West) to Michigan State

I mentioned recent examples because it seemed like people thought that SE Ohio does not get recruited. The topic is definitely about current recruits, but these examples show that it CAN happen.

It's really a matter of going to camps and being proactive about getting exposure, and not just relying on the scouts to find you.
