Your most heartbreaking Sports moments
What was it? As a player? As a fan? College? Pro? High School?
Doing the right thing is rarely easy.

As a fan - this past Saturday night at Mountaineer Field.
As a player, the first game I missed after an injury in my Senior year of football. I can remember listening to the pre-game motivational speech and then not being able to walk with the team because I was crying over not getting to play. (Then being totally embarassed about crying.)

Jose Mesa.
Blown save in the bottom of the 9th. Game 7. 1997 World Series. The Indians lost a series that they absolutely should have won. and I knew that as an 11 year old kid. I cried. It seems like it will never happen. Will the Indians ever win a World Series ? I know they did in 1948. but so long ago.
also
hdfatboy, I felt the same thing in the 1998 when Ohio State lost to Michigan State.
Ever since we won our National Championship in 2002. I am no longer as glued and as nervous about Ohio State games. It is like a new world. LOL

As a fan its a tie between watching the Tigers lose the title in 99 to Sandusky Perkins on a bad spot and watching the Buckeyes get dismantled last year in the title game.
That was a rough one too.
I still get pissed when thinking about that game.

As a player in 91 in college at Ashland U. Playing Butler at home winner gets the championship. We recover an onside kick with about 2 minutes to play. Drive to the 25 with 10 seconds no timeouts. Our QB takes the snap to spike the ball, but accidently hits the leg of an O lineman, our coaching staff wasnt ready after the ref marked the ball of and the playclock ran out before our field goal unit could get lined up. That knocked us from the league championship and a birth in the playoffs.

It was the West Virginia game.
How did we ever lose to Pitt? My brother berry and I are so disappointed that we have been grinding our tooth ever since.
The big time West Virginia players really came through. They call him Noel "touchdown' Devine because all you have to do is touch him and he goes down.
"Noel. Noel. The angels did sing."
"Don't hand to Devine, he can't run with that thing."
And Pat White did not dislocate his thumb. He missplaced it in his butt for the first five Mountaineer possessions and then pulled it out just in time to get hurt. My Gaaaaawd!! How did we lose to Pitt. Even their coach was on crutches.
My cousin and our 2 kids and I now have 4 tickets to New Orleans and a brand new couch still in plastic. Just as well. The 'Eers in New Orleans would be a worse disaster than Katrina.
There has not been such a mournful cry rising from the land since the Death Angel took all the firstborn. Well, maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration, but certainly not since the tooth fairy hung himself. We lost to Pitt.

By far # 1 ---Ky Cats going down to Duke on the Laittner shot with a trip to the final 4 on the line. Was Caywood's final call on the season. Several Ky boys who were seniors had brought Ky basketball back from the depths of probation and were on the verge of the final 4 (with a great shot to win it all) and Ky gives up a open court length pass to Laittner . He sticks the 16 footer to beat us.
More personal --losing my senior year in baseball to Raceland --I was a senior pitcher but passed over the start for a junior (who later signed with UK) . I wanted the ball. Felt I should have had the start. He gives up a 3 run dinger in the 1st and we lose 3-2 . The O let us down. He pitched plenty well enough to win.
Ky losing in 1993 in B'ham Al. to North Carolina (stackhouse and others) with a trip to the final four hurt also. I was in attendance.
I'm no longer the sports freak I used to be. Ky BB loses don't even hurt that much anymore. Sports has lost it's luster with me. MD
