No excuses for that loss by Logan Elm pfloyd. They got off to a poor start from what I heard and had to fight back. Poor starts are hurting Logan Elm right now and you aren't going to put a Teays Valley game comeback together to counter those each game. Logan Elm needs a complete game effort. Hopefully things improve against Fairfield, but LE deserves to fall out of the eight.

Piketon at Huntingon (Ross) should be a great game friday night! Hoping my home town Redstreaks can pull out the big W in the Huntsmens house!

pfloyd,
I know that it will be a difficult task, but this years VC team is going to be better that last years 20-0 club. I am not saying they will go undefeated, but as a whole will be better. This team is extremely deep and explosive. Guthrie is the best post player in SE ohio, and the supporting cast gets better every game. This weekend will be a good test with the from Belpre on Fri, and Hunnington on sat at the convo. I see VC winning both of these games and moving up on the rankings.

... some "old" man back prior to the first tip went up posted the following in a "Pre-season" poll ...

3. Vinton County ... " Coach Combs has one of those juggernaut programs that seems to find personnel and reload on a yearly basis ... 2007-08? losing PG Henry and SG Jerrod Albright to graduation, throw in small forward Ryan Day to transfer, rebuild? or reload ? my committee of one - me - says reload - the cupboard "ain't" empty down on Rt. 50 , the Vikings STILL have size, speed, scoring ability - the best big man in Southern Ohio roams the paint for VHS - Dustin Guthrie (6-5), Jake Prater (6-5), steady wing men in Andrew Eberts, Ryan Stewart ... tough defensive hustle man in Ben Batey ... throw in THIS years size in little bro' Dylan Guthrie (6-4) ... speed on the perimeter in guards Andy Grillo & Ethan Allen ... role players Brandon Clark/Michael Dixon (and yet another Dixon in the fold at VC) ... the Vikes have the mix of players to be as good as or better than last season's Vikes ... will they gel from the git go ?or will we have to wait for the youngsters to find their niche'? either way Coach Combs and the VC Vikes start at the 3 spot ... " pfloyd

... so far so good ;-) ... however putting a beat down on Athens does not a perfect season make - let's see what happens vs Belpre and especially Saturday at the Convo vs Huntington HS ... glad to see ALL of the components of the VC attack getting involved in the offense - Stewart with his 8 treys wow ...

Bluegrass Vike,

Who would you put the Vikes above Z-ville or Chillicothe? The Vikings are off to a good start and but have yet to be tested. Huntington will be a good matchup for them Sat. in Athens. Good luck!

IMO the Vikings have solidified their position at number 3 but aren't on the level yet as Z-ville or Chilli.

Really Quick SVC Rundown

Unioto(0-2, 0-5) @ Westfall(1-0, 1-0)
Coach Hoops returns to the (not so) Echo Dome to face the team he coached for 2 seasons. Unioto isn't as bad as their record(could easily be 4-1) and Westfall hasn't played much ball this season.
Prediction: Westfall is too athletic, 64-58

Paint Valley(1-1, 1-2) @ Adena(1-0, 3-1)
PV got drilled last week by Westfall, while Adena comes off of a huge win over Logan Elm on Tuesday. Adena has a nice combination of impact players that will be the difference in this one.
Prediction: Adena big, 76-42

Southeastern(0-2, 1-4) @ Zane Trace(0-2, 1-3)
SE returns 2 of their big 3 in this matchup and is hungry for revenge after last season, ZT is just hungry for a W. ZT is very athletic and I don't see them starting off 0-3.
Prediction: ZT pulls away late, 62-49

Game of the Week
Piketon(2-0, 3-1) @ Huntington(2-0, 4-0)
If Piketon was a pushover, I'd say this would be a trap game for the Huntsmen, but it's just the start of an extremely tough weekend. Huntington is the now, while Piketon is the future.
Prediction: Huntington seals it with FT's, 65-60

Saturday:
Madison Plains @ Unioto
Vinton County vs. Huntington--The Convo
Fairland vs. Southeastern--The Convo
Peebles vs. Westfall--The Convo

I see only Westfall getting a W on Saturday.

Sounds like Fairfield Union got hosed. No way can you get 3 dribbles and AND get the shot off. Even if you caught it underneath the basket....took 3 immediate power dribbles and shot it without having a follow thru....not in 1.3 seconds. 2 dribbles and the release would be a stretch.

... the SEOAL is panning out just as the preseason predictions forecasted :

Chillicothe vs Zanesville ... as Chilli handed what should be the 4th best team in the league Ironton their lunch 74-28 ... Zanesville traveled to the Warrior Dome to slap the Warriors 64-42 ... too much defense in both games by the winners ... the Cavs held the Tigers to a 2 SHOT quarter while the Blue Devils with their length and size pushed the Warriors waaaaaay out on the floor to run their offense - holding WHS to 27% shooting from the field ...

pfloyd- Unioto is so close to getting over the hump!

Westfall will definetly win their share of ballgames, very athletic team and man do they know how to win. Seth Hardin, to my knowledge, hasn't played until this year in HS and comes off the bench to have 10 big 2nd half points. Tyler Cobb, 17 points and had to have been in double figures in rebounds, Bryant Gibson, 11 points and a couple of big steals. Adam Keller, 15 points and some good defense...all football players.
Curtis Baker led Unioto with 25 and Alex Kimsey had a very solid defensive game, the Gazette had him for 12 boards and 6 blocks. Unioto had the ball, down 3, with 1:10 left and turned it over and Westfall would get a couple steals and layups to seal it.

Josh Kellough goes off once again. 31 points, 5 3's in beating a tough Piketon squad. If you are going to beat this Huntington team, it will have to be away from the Hills. Piketon was led by Cody Smith with 15, while Jordan Brabson and Evan Legg each had 10. It was nice to hear Keenan Brush's name on the radio, especially after hearing about the scary situation that occured last week.

Clay Roll continues to go off for Adena in a big win over Paint Valley. Clay Ragland also chipped in with 15 points, Roll finished with 25. I haven't seen anything this year where Roll has been under 20 points, it's a good thing he didn't start last year, . Paint Valley was led by Matt Workman, who had 15.

Zane Trace rolls over a struggling Southeastern squad. SE returns 3 different players in this game and still losses by 27. Fairland might beat the Panthers by 50 this afternoon.
