I'd say Burg 64-Ptown 55 P-town strickly relies on taking the ball away from the other team to score. In the half court the struggle badly. My guess is they won't take the ball away from the Burg enough to generate any O. A slow pace and even decent guards for any team against the Trojans will be trouble for them.
My gosh how horrible is Athens ????? I watched the Gallia A - Portsmouth game and thought Gallia was weak . Athens must be horid. MD

Win tonight against a pretty good Burg team and I'll be impressed. They need to show they can win a game where it does'nt look like a track meet. true...but...after our last 5 years.......it will take some time, and with this year, we already hold most wins in a year at this point in the season..I know these teams are bad...but 3 years ago..even 2..we would be having problems with them.
im not calling you out, just having some fun with it...im very happy and exited with the way it looks like our program is going.
by the way, a win against this Burg team, would be a difficult task for about ANY team around here I think.
maybe..IF...we play our BEST game, we can be in position to win.

Maltese Falcon--the comment was to address Burg grad's assertion that Wheelersburg and Portsmouth could not have met in the tournaments before 1978. My point was that in the late 50's and, looking at the data, early '60's that they were several times just one win away from playing the Trojans in the tournament those years. I, for one, would not rule it out that they had met earlier. The comment of that 'if they had won even one game' in a tournament was meant to express that they did NOT have to go deep in the tournament to meet. There was at least one year that if Wheelersburg had won their first tournament game, they would have met the Trojans in the second round of the sectional. And this was nearly 20 years before 1978.
I am well aware that Wheelersburg had some good teams prior to 1958. Even though it was well before I was born, my relatives were on those teams or cheering for those teams. I grew up with many of those stories. (That and the stories about why East and Burg were banned from playing each other in basketball.)
Now I did NOT know that my Uncle Ron was on a team that had beaten Portsmouth once (he never mentioned it) but the fact that a win of that nature is even remarkable actually makes my point that a county team beating Portsmouth was remarkable during that era. Thanks for the family history.
BTW--those who go to the Wheelersburg basketball games should note Pug Miller's sweater that he wears. (He is Matt and Andy Stegman's and Cole Miller's grandfather.) He wears his original high school varsity sweater. It is a piece of history in itself and well worth having him tell you about it. The 45 on the side is the year he graduated and his team went to the quarter final of the state where they lost to Ashville. Gene Bennett was a junior on that team.

There's no back peddling at all......what I posted were opinions and facts.....I don't see why you have such a problem with what I wrote. It was my understanding that when someone read my post, that there were statements that would be interpreted as opinions based on the wording alone. I didn't think it was necessary to specify each opinion and each fact.
Basically I thought it to be a rather benign post, not intending to offend anyone. Obviously for some reason it struck a nerve with you........
LOL.... Just pulling your hard core Trojan leg, TD.

Would love to hear some score updates on here. This Cavs fan liked what I saw with the Burg and the Trojans. I think this will be a tough game, if Portsmouths big kid can stay out of foul trouble and get some touches.
The Burg has to have the advantage with experience and the home court. Tight one tonight that could go either way.
