South Point 58 @ Coal Grove 28

Post by osumufan »

Thoughts? I think the Pointers should win this rather easily. But the first time they played the Hornets really played better than I think they have against other teams in the OVC. If Mayo is hot look out !Pointers by 15.

Pointers by at least 15. Mayo and company will be ready ! The last game was only a 6 point difference but the Pointers have really improved a lot since then.

What went on with Justin (SP's assistant)? I graduated with him, and he usually keeps his cool, so I was really surprised to see the police escorting him out.

And is it not usually the refs or administration who ask to have someone removed. It just seemed like an odd situation.

Wasn't there on that side but the SP head coach goes and gets the cop to calm the CG fans on that side and they throw out our assistant. Go figure :? CG was just outclassed and out played. CG has absolutely no student section and no pep band to get the fans into the game. How sad for the boys who are busting their butts! CG coach though is the most animated I have seen this year. He should do some kind of standup comedy routine because if you could hear what he was saying he had to be funny!

I've come to find that any CG vs SP game isn't very classy. It vacillates year-to-year, game-to-game as to which team it is. Football I don't find it to be so bad, but it certainly is in basketball. CG probably has been the worst recently, and that is completely unacceptable.

I have to give it to CG's coach though. I think they are 7-8 (or something like that...will have to check the Tribune), and that is a great improvement from 0-21. Hats off to him.

CG has absolutely no student section and no pep band to get the fans into the game.

Sad thing is, I don't think anybody cares anymore except the parents and a few students. Thats the way it looked anyways.

To sum up the class and the situation. The CG fans were calling one of our guys Shaq. A comment from a grown man to a kid on the team shooting foul shots. Eaches told the man to not address his players. In turn Norris gets the police to try to shut the fans up. Instead Justin adresses the cop as buddy instead of "Sir" as the cop insisted. He was then excorted out for not paying attention to the cop. So we had some childish classless fans topped off by an obese, law inforcement officer with an A- Thor -IT- I chip on his shoulder.

Mostly what I got out of it. I would be lying if I said I was shocked.

There are a few on the force like that. I am NOT saying they all are.

I wouldn't like to be addressed as buddy, but if I was an officer I wouldn't eject a guy over that.

if a coach has to be thrown out for an ignorant fan then something is wrong, that rent a cop should never be allowed back in that gym, he is there for crowd control, the refs are paid to take care of the game not the fat piece of trash, and no matter what the fans were saying to the players SP is undefeated and keep your head up guys, class will always be admired, as for coal grove if you have won 7 games then wow what a weak schedule...hope we see you in the tourny

I was very close to the situation when it happened and Justin never acted out of line from what I seen. It was during a point in the game where the CG fans were extremely mad and shouting things out...like a lot of fans do. Next thing you know a man and a woman stood up and starting yelling and making this big scene. Justin just sat there and never yelled back or anything. Then SP's head coach goes and gets the guard and asks him to calm things down (which is their job!). But instead of even addressing the fans, he goes straight to Justin and Justin never raised his voice at the guard or seemed mad in my opinion. The guard never said a word to the fans or even asked them if they did anything wrong. And they were the ones yelling and making the initial scene that I saw. Then next thing you know he tells the coach he has to leave. I was like what????

Then a bunch of fans start clapping and cheering...ya know, big dramatic moment. I have no idea what was said between the fans and the coaching staff...so I can't comment if it was fair or not...maybe Justin did say something really wrong.

But if I was a coach, from anywhere or any sport, and fans were saying things to my players I would take up for them and defend them regardless. They are just kids playing a game.

nothing was said to deserve what he went through. from what i heard, coach eaches was taking up for his players and he got ejected for it. no foul language or anything was involved, from the sp side it looked like he did something wrong but it was just the little round cop being an ---, keep it up pointers, beat west union

AMEN!!! I am not a "ball parent" nor will I probably ever be one, but my children have played sports. And buckeye221 you are SO CORRECT! Live

FOR your kids, not THROUGH them. Be supportive whether they win or loose. If the two fans from Coal Grove that I saw acting they way they were towards the SP bench were my parents, I'd be extremely embarrassed by how they acted. It's a GAME ~ not something that will effect the rest of THEIR life. ( not YOURS). Be proud of their effort WIN OR LOOSE - NO MATTER WHAT THE CIRCUMSTANCES!!

Whether my Pointers or Tigers win or loose, the kids know that I am there for them 100%. Am I dissapointed when they loose? SURE! But, there is another game for another day and we as fans need to be there to support them for that. And I am sure that all Coal Grove fans are not like those that I saw ~ a couple of people even stopped me and said that SP had a great team this year and they hope we go to state and show them what Southern Ohio can do - THANK YOU for that !( whomever you were - you showed CLASS!)

I can see your point about a rent-a-cop, but it wasn't - it was village police, which had authority in the school building.

I'm sorry, but I have a big problem about your post. Because the fans are idiots, please don't degrade the players...as most of them tried hard and acted fairly. Leave them out of it and don't be harsh to the players.
