Meigs vs Alex 1/25, Meigs vs RV 1/26
when you are faster than your opp. not being allowed to use that speed is cheating so when you start calling charges then the slower team gains an advantage. rv is slower than meigs.
i believe coach ewing knows the rules.
sending or allowing the cheerleaders to disrupt the other teams warm ups is terrible and cheap. river valley does this every game.it is wrong and should not be allowed. practice somewhere else, some other time.
taking flash photo's under the basket during the game is wrong. the effect is to blind someone.
i will not go on but this stuff is cheap and sneaky. why not just pour oil on the floor?

RV's principal is a dumb arse. I've seen him take pictures when RV is shooting foul shots. He really knows no better. It's not just against the opponent when he takes pics. I'm sure someone else can back me up about seeing him taking pictures when RV is shooting.
Cheerleaders?? Are you talking about before the game at half court?? They have done that for many years.
No other school has whined and complained about that, if that is what you are talking about.

The cheerleaders warming up at half court happens at every game we play. Normally both schools cheerleaders will be there. Not a big deal IMO. They take up very little of the floor at mid court. Fastteach, you still never responded to my question about the Meigs students rudeness toward the RV cheerleaders last year???
As for the principal and the flash pictures.... wasn't he at the RV offensive end of the floor? I know for a fact he was the first half and also the 4th qtr.
Driving under control and out of control is 2 different things entirely. If a player is under control on the drive to the basket he can jump stop and shoot over the defender. Out of control allows the defense to step in and take a charge. Speed has little to do with it the the offensive player has their head down determined to go to the basket. That is basketball fundamentals 101. How many charges were called last night?
Maybe your team should have done better job of rebounding last night. How many offensive rebounds did RV have? 15?20?25? Didn't protect your lead very well either.
Apparently Coach Ewing doesn't know he can't call timeout when the opponent has possession of the basketball and the ball is in play. I personally saw that from where I was sitting.
Quit making excuses. Your team lost. Maybe you should try giving your opponent a little credit. It looks bad on you when you cry about officiating, time keeper, announcer, principal and cheerleaders when you lose.
Also, I have seen much worse officiating at games I have attended at Meigs. I have never cried about it on here either.

If you were at the game it was apparent that MHS's plan was to pound small quick players up the middle and 1. Draw a foul 2. Pass to the wing where they had very potent shooting or 3. Take the 1st and 2nd shots. They played a fairly small team and I don't think Layton expected this strategy. You are going to get some charges when you go in from outside the arc that aggresively. By the way, it worked great. RVHS's larger/slower defense had little choice but to collapse in and try to stop the high percentage shot, leaving the wingman wide open. I think that RV showed up to play and the constant subbing to find the right combination kept fresh feet on the floor.
Regarding the flash. I have noticed it myself but I think it is done equally. Perhaps he will read these posts and learn not to do it. I have heard many RV fans commenting on the inappropriate timing of the pictures and flashes on both ends.

Time keeping and officiating did leave a lot to be desired; however, REBOUNDS are what killed Meigs. They played a great first half, runnin' and gunnin', but rebounds in the long run killed them. I think with only 2 big man, Ewing has a great strategy for offense (out run them), but when the opponents get 2-3 looks at the basket every time down the court, it is hard to win.
As for Alexander. Meigs should have matched up better with them but with their resent loss of 2 guards, I think the bench is not so deep any more. Alexander is a fast small team like Meigs and it is hard to keep up without a lot of subs, like they are used to. Of course when I played, we were used to it, I didnt come out unless I fouled out! But that is not what they are used to, I think they are getting adjusted.
Bassmaster, Tolar is ineligible for the rest of the year. His claim that he would be able to play bc of some "disgruntal transfer" appears to be just what it seemed: BULL!
I will say this: with Meigs only having 2 seniors, LOOK OUT TVC! If these kids continue to improve like they have this year, the sky's the limit!!!

raiderball the student section being rude does not allow you to go onto the court and make a fool of yourself. that should never have been allowed. why it was i do not know. as for the other part, river valley has a good team. beat oak hill right? no shame losing to them. they( the whole school) needs to grow up.
Just a few things I wanted to add my two cents too. The actual call is not "charge" it is a player control foul. You dont always have to be set to get the call. If a player is deemed "out of control" the call is made, ie head down or shoulder down. I thought it was against OSHAA rules to use flash photography at high school sporting events? Not sure on that one but I wish someone would check it out for the principal's sake. I was not at the game, just wanted to comment. I have seen both teams play though and they both have shown a great deal of sportsmanship and character. Good Luck to both.

You wanna talk about people needing to grow up? It seems that you are the one talking to yourself on here. You keep bringing stuff up. Meigs got beat, get over it. It's in the past....why dont you talk about meigs next game or something else.

Great Post....I was ready to mention the Player control foul, but you beat me to it.
tubby raiderball asked me a specific question about last years game. the meigs student section was torturing a rv cheerleader like teens do at ball games. they where rude to her. so she came on the court during a time-out and backflipped all the way down the floor. the thing was she was dressed as a civilian. she should not have done that but they shold have left her alone. that was the question. i thought it was between him and me and i did not mean to sound upset or angry and he did not to me either. what i mean by grow up is rv has a good team anyone who can beat oakhill ( who is #1 seed by the way) can take us. they do not have to do stuff like take flash photo's during shots or disrupt shoot arounds. YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH NOT TO SO STUFF LIKE THAT! that is all. i personally like a little rivarly between rv and meigs. shoot look what i wrote about the football game. i think there are good kids on both sides of the county line. i believe i said i wished rv was in the tvc.
yeah this is a discussion not an arguement i hope.
well the cheerleader thing is they come out and take up a large chunk of the floor to do warm ups while the players are in the sootaround. now i know the players do not need the whole 1/2 floor, but the cheerleaders should not be out there at all. last year in particular the girls took all the space from the foul line to mid court. the meigs players where running into and around these girls, it was just juvenile. this year not so bad, but that could be done somewhere else or some time else.
