WOW
This was a true barn burner for sure. Roback is all he was hyped up to be on both sides of the ball.

Re: WK 1 Waverly @ Piketon
why would u punt the ball to waverly's playmaker with 47 seconds left and give waverly any chance to return it. why not punt the ball out of bounds or just run the ball and make them go all the way down field with 30 seconds left. that was the worst coaching i have seen. somebody on the coaching staff should be playin madden and asking madden for every play.. the game wouldnt even be close if they did that

Re: WK 1 Waverly @ Piketon
Congratulations to both teams---pike county finest were on both sides of the ball tonight.
After a contest like this, it is a bitter loss for either one of these teams to have to swallow and head into week #2 at 0-1.
In HINDSIGHT the punt on 4th down will be questioned, just as "going for it" would have been questioned if the Streaks had turned the ball back over to Waverly at midfield. Both coaching staffs are to be commended for getting their teams ready for the showdown we just witnessed. Keep your heads up Streaks---regroup and square that record at 1-1 next friday. Tigers---enjoy it tonight, then get ready---the Ironmen are coming to town in 7 short days.

Re: WK 1 Waverly @ Piketon
whats the chances of waverly going all the way down field with no timeouts and scoring. roback was having trouble hitting his wideouts down field all night he really only made 1 nice deep pass all night and with the defense expecting a long pass i would of much rather made them beat me that way.. all piketon did by punting to roback was give the tigers another chance to score or get some yards.

if waverly starts inside their own 20...hardly any chance.
if waverly received the ball near midfield...the chances improve.
the point is in HINDSIGHT, the punt out of bounds (which the NFL guys mess up on some occasions) would have been the BEST (safest) move.
Re: WK 1 Waverly @ Piketon
Congratulations Waverly. Sounds like that was one heck of a game tonight down in Pike County

Lets see Waverly had just scored 15 pts in less than 1:30
Re: WK 1 Waverly @ Piketon
Any update on the injured Piketon player that was taken off by the squad?
Re: WK 1 Waverly @ Piketon
Congrats to Waverly on the win...what a comeback! Sounds like Roback was absolutely amazing. I'm looking forward to watching him play next week, but I'm sure he's going to be a nightmare for Jackson to defend.
Re: WK 1 Waverly @ Piketon
This game exemplifies what high school sports should be about. Two teams going at it for 48 minutes, neither team willing to give. While we can second guess decisions made by both coaching staffs, the end result is this- Waverly has Derek Roabck, Piketon does not. 'Nuf said. I saw Walls play a couple of times last year, and I saw Bobby Hoying play in high school, and Roback is by far the best high school quarterback (for one game) I've ever seen in person. I think he'll develop the touch on the long passes, but his short passing was right on, and his running ability is what sets him apart. As long as he stays healthy, the Tigers will never be out of a game.
As for the Streaks, the running game was much, much better than I thought it would be. I don't know what the final rushing totals were, but they had to have had close to 400 yards on the ground. And with so much of it coming between the tackles, I was impressed with how the line dominated Waverly's front. Get Helton some time to set up, and the Streaks will be harder to stop. Don't hang your heads, because with 9 games to go, more wins are on the horizon as long as you play with the same intensity as you showed tonight. Thankfully, I doubt if any other teams have a player as good as #6 from Waverly. Go Streaks!
P.S. eagles73, I behaved myself last night. No yelling at the refs, nothing bad to say about either team.

Re: WK 1 Waverly @ Piketon
The injured player collided with another player helment-to-helment they were taking him to a hospital as a precaution.
As for the game, WOW! Roback had over 600 all-purpose yards. 350+ maybe 400 through the air. You can say kick it out of bounds but I think Piketon was more concerned with the rush and just getting the ball out of there.
That might be one the most exciting fourth quarters I have ever seen at ANY sporting event not just HS football.
Let's not take anything away from the Redstreaks Kieffer Reed, Caleb Southworth, Tyler Tackett and other really played well. I wish Piketon the best of luck the rest of the way go get N-Y next week.
Tremendous game they will talk about this one for a long time to come.

I would like to commend Piketon AD Jason Taylor and the Piketon administration. I think they did a wonderful job preparing for this game. They handled a crowd of 5,000 flawlessly.
I think all of the prep work and the work during the game should be recognized. It made for a great experience at possibly the best HS football game I have ever attended.
Great job.

He wasn't throwing passes to himself last night, Ligit! I wonder why Piketon had to punt. Oh Yeah When it counted, the Defense did Step up and Stop the Redstreaks!
One whale of a TEAM effort!
That I talk is not allowed in the WAVERLY locker room!
Piketon is a GREAT football team and it took a great 48 minutes by of all the WAVERLY TIGERS to beat a well coached very talented football team.
We few, we happy few, we band of BROTHERS!
Now, on to Jackson!
