Portsmouth needs to put together 4 great quarters of basketball. They need to be hitting down their shots and they cannot turn the ball over. The Trojans need 4 solid quarters to keep this game interesting.

Portsmouth has yet another tough task ahead of them as they travel to Zanesville to battle the Blue Devils.

FalconFan said it the best......the Trojans need to play 4 good quarters of basketball. If they don't, it won't be pretty on the scoreboard.

Still, I think this schedule down the stretch just before the tournament begins is good for Portsmouth. They need to be tested by good teams, and this will make the 3rd very good opponent in a row for PHS. Warren, Chillicothe, and Zanesville only have 8 losses total among them.

I hope the weather holds up to get this game in. If it is postponed, I guess they could play on Saturday.

GO TROJANS!!!

Congratulations to the Blue Devils on the overwhelming win. They started the game with a 11-0 ZHS run, but the next 50 points were split by each team and ZHS held a 36-25 lead. At one point Zanesville actually called a timeout to regroup as the Trojans had a chance to cut the lead under 10. Zanesville went on a 5-0 run to end the half for a 41-25 lead.

Coach Shoemaker did not back down from the Blue Devils, employing the press at times.

But one thing was very clear about last night.......The Zanesville Blue Devils are a TOUGH basketball team......worthy of their top 10 D1 ranking.

The Trojans were missing 2 starters......Williams and Reeves.....yet it wouldn't have made up for 45 points.

As far as Williams' status, he is supposed to miss the Ironton game as well. It is not an academic or injury issue...........

It may seem hard to believe, but the Trojans kept battling all the way to the end. They did not roll over, but simply fell victim to red hot shooting in the second half to a dynamite ball club. Andrew Bendolph and Nate Cadogen had double figures for PHS, with 16 and 13 I think.

The Portsmouth JV lost big to the Zanesville JV as well.

It was a pleasure to meet Zanes-Vegas, doing the PA for ZHS. He was a gentlemen and gracious in victory.

It was senior night at ZHS, and they put on a FIRST CLASS act. Everything that Zanesville did exuded class; after the game the seniors sat at a table and signed autographs. They had a special song for the departing seniors, and the national anthem was terrific. I was very impressed with the way ZHS conducted the entire event.

In addition the Zanesville fans clapped for the Trojans when their starting lineup was introduced.

Portsmouth is now 8-10 on the year and will go to Ironton on Tuesday and try to end a 13 game winning streak by the Fighting Tigers over the Trojans.

GO TROJANS!!!

Maltese Falcon: You are right in that you want your team to play at least a competitive game even in a loss.

But I would still want my Trojans to play Zanesville and get drilled than lose narrowly to a team that is not half as good as the Blue Devils. It exposes your weaknesses as true weaknesses with no sugar coating. In addition, I know some of these kids personally, and they look forward to the challenge of playing very good teams.

When you get beat that bad, there's one solution.......get better. And our coaches and players are trying to do just that.

This loss will not hurt our kids emotionally or psychologically. They knew going in that Chillicothe and Zanesville were clearly better than anyone else on their schedule.

I still think it's good that the toughest portion of our schedule is right before the tournament. It's not going to hurt our kids confidence. If anything, I think it helps us because we know no one in the tournament will come close to the caliber of CHS and ZHS.

We will still have to play good basketball to beat Zane Trace. They have more quality wins than we have............
