Tri-Valley Conference Tourn. Feb. 9 at Belpre.

Post by afan »

Does Vinton Co. have the title wrapped up because of numbers, or does shorthanded Waterford, Belpre, Nelsonville York, others, have an outside chance?

Is Belpre going to change their lineup to match up with Vinton, or are they going to focus on (heated rival) NY? Cooper at 145 vs P. Norway, or at 140 vs Rogers from Vinton? Packard 160 vs R. Norway, or 170 vs Ousley- Vinton, Lockard -Wellston? I heard this discussion at the pee-wee
tourn yesterday, look for Packard to stay at 160.

Belpre's Lineup
hvy. Carr
215. Waderker
189. Wiggers
171. Walker
160. Packard
152. Randolph
145. Cooper or Crider
140. Cooper or Crider
125. Parish
119. Hess
103. Lockhart.

I can't imagine that much stratigical planning going on, and if there is, it usually backfires. Most lineup changes will be based on sickness or injury.

The John Deno Tourn at Athens this weekend was a pretty good preview of what is going to take place Feb. 9 at TVC. Several of Belpre's wrestlers would have done well there.
Go Eagles.

gpgm6566...Who are you kiddin'? You know the wheels are always turning in the coachs' heads, when it comes to planning for the TVC! lol! ;-)

Best of luck to all the TVC teams this coming Saturday, especially my beloved N-Y Buckeyes! :-D

Trying to talk the family into going down to watch. The only wrestling I've seen this year are the Ohio duals and the SOYWL tournament yesterday (didn't get to see a whole lot, cause I worked the whole day). So, I need to see some wrestling...I'm having some serious withdrawals and starting to twitch!!!

I think the tvc finals will play out like this:
103- Reed- Waterford vs ? (Waterford)
112- Crock- Waterford vs? (Waterford)
119-Matheney- Vin. vs Branham-Waterford (Vinton)
125-Hook NY vs Parish-Bel or Miller-Waterford (NY)
130-Morgan-Tremble vs Farely-Waterford (Tremble)
135-Jones-Waterford vs ? (Waterford
140-Cooper-Belpre vs Flemming-Wellston (Belpre)
145-P. Norway-NY vs Beckley-vinton (NY)
150-Randolph-Belpre vs Kelley-Wellston (Belpre)
160-Packard-Belpre vs R. Norway(Based on Prior meetings) (Belpre)
171-Lockard-Wellston vs Ousley-Vin. or Walker-Bel.
If Walker Wrestles his best he could win this. (Belpre)
189-Grigsby-Vinton vs Wiggers-Belpre (Belpre)
215-Waderker-Belpre vs doesn't matter (Belpre)
Hvy-Willford-Meigs vs Carr-Belpre (Meigs)

afan, I wish I chould share your optimism, a more realistic number would be 3 champs from Belpre.
Go Eagles.

Tri-Valley Conference Wrestling Predictions

103
Reed (Waterford)*
Fairchild (Wellston)
Lockhart (Belpre)

Reed has this won in a pretty weak weight class.

112
Crock (Waterford)*
Sowers (Vinton County)
Cangemi (Nelsonville)
Norman (Wellston)
Shirkey (Trimble)

Crock has the better wrestling partners, will show it by winning this weight class.

119
Matheny (Vinton County)*
Branham (Waterford)
Crego (Nelsonville)
Hess (Belpre)

Matheny and Branham will have a good match until Matheny wins. How has Hess faired this season?

125
Hook (Nelsonville)*
Miller (Waterford)
Parish (Belpre)
Barnhill (Wellston)
Smathers (Trimble)

Hook is best by far, the next three can go in any order. This will be one of the differences for second through fourth place for team title. Has Miller and Parish wrestled yet?

130
Morgan (Trimble)*
Farley (Waterford)
Parkinson (Vinton County)
Zinn (Wellston)
Phillips (Nelsonville)

Morgan beat Farley at Deno pretty convincingly, but if there is any real upset in the conference, it would be Farley getting revenge.

135
Jones (Waterford)*
Dyla (Trimble)
Willis (Wellston)
Brown (Nelsonville)

Jones by far.

140
Cooper (Belpre)*
Smith (Waterford)
Flemming (Wellston)
Joe (Vinton County)
Cunningham (Trimble)

Cooper and then everyone else.

145
Norway (Nelsonville)*
Beckley (Vinton County)
Wilburn (Wellston)
Cruse (Trimble)
Crider (Belpre)

Norway and then everyone else. Wilburn might be able to get by Beckley.

152
Randolph (Belpre)*
Kelley (Wellston)
Cecil (Vinton County)
Joyce (Trimble)

Randolph and everyone else.

160
Packard (Belpre)*
Norway (Nelsonville)
Paterson (Vinton County)
Arthur (Wellston)

Packard v Norway should be a really good match. I could see it going either way, but like mentioned- Packard should be the favorite.

171
Ousley (Vinton County)*
Lockard (Wellston)
Walker (Belpre)
Hayes (Meigs)

This will be another difference maker for team title. If Walker can move up any more from 3rd, or even upset Ousley, Belpre has a good chance to win.

189
Grigsby (Vinton County)*
Wiggers (Belpre)
Brothers (Meigs)
Massie (Wellston)

Wiggers has been outstanding for a freshman wrestling at 189. Although undersized, he can keep up with a lot of people at this weight. If he wins, that could also be the difference maker for team title.

215
Waderker (Belpre)*
Grey (Wellston)
Welsh (Meigs)

Waderker wins and Grey battles Welsh for second. Does Vinton County have a 215?

275
Willford (Meigs)*
Carr (Belpre)
Jones (Wellston)
Puckett (Vinton County)
Mc Laughlin (Trimble)

Willford wins this weight. Not so sure on upset potential from Carr or anyone else.

Teams (# of Top 4 placers)

Vinton County (10 or 11)
Belpre (10)
Wellston (13) I might be underestimating Wellston
Waterford (7)
Nelsonville (6)
Meigs (4 or 5)
Trimble (4)

Vinton County is the clear favorite pending upsets at 125, 171, and 189. A number of changes could be done to line-ups, especially at 160 and 171. I think the favorites to win each class are pretty easy, but the 2nd through 4th place finishes are going to be the difference. Feel free to add input, changes, more info on wrestlers, etc.

Does anyone know how the scoring is going to go? Placement points?

MVW - These wrestlers will either have the deepest weight classes or will be the difference makers for the team championchip.

Morgan TR (130)
Packard BE (160)
Ousley VC (171)

Why all the drama...just spit it out!

I hope everyone is healthy and o.k. I know of one wrestler who has been ill and I hate it, because he's a great kid and a tough one on the mat. Being a senior doesn't help either. Hopefully, he'll be there ready and able to compete on Saturday and for the big ones coming up right after. :-D

CK, good job, Hess from Belpre is 119. In the past this tourn hasn't been decided by the most champs, instead has been won in the consolation rds.

Wow, it's true about Randolph. Is he out for the year? And Packard moving up to 171, is that for TVC or for rest of the year? Goodluck all wrestlers!

I think Randolph is done for the year, my understanding is that he quit. I was looking forward to seeing Packard vs P. Norway, maybe at sectionals.
How will Packard do against Ously and Lockard, in the heavier weight class. What about Walker vs Norway?

Why did Randolph quit? That is a big lose for the Eagles.

I have been told by two sources that he has been battling mono for the last few weeks. Not sure about any truth, but it has been to troubling for his to remain in wrestling condition. He is a very talented wrestler, I wish nothing but the best for him.

I hate to hear this. Timmy is a great kid and wrestler. More than anything, I hope he gets back to good health. Mono is not something to mess with. My thoughts are with him!
