I believe your overall view of Wellston is totally incorrect. I think this season will serve as a building block into next season. Home losses to Alex by 7 - Belpre by 4 - Meigs by 2 - Vinton was lopsided, a 12 point win over Nelsonville. They were in most games on the road within the conference until late in the game. Only Alex without Coach D were they not competitive until late in the game. Wellston returns most of their nucleus and will be much better and more experienced next season. Wellston will be in the top three teams in the conference and will be in the hunt for the title. They played 4 Sophomores most of the season and a couple of juniors. They will be much improved. It will take alot of work in the offseason, but expect a much improved team when the season begins next year.

I did just that. As I stated before neither is the Basketball or Track coach just over zelous fans that had a slight misunderstanding. There is No divide in Belpre, the basketball program is ready to soar.
fasteach, the football coach and the track coach is the same person, so for them to be arguing is impossible, Curt Shriver coaches football and track at BHS, so nice try.
If Belpre can find someone to shoot on a consistent basis like Eric Lynch did this year, they will be fine. Most of Eric's threes comes from driving and dishing or re-locating. Belpre just needs to find someone that can shoot like him, which isnt an easy task. I have watched Channing Parsons shoot on the JV team, he is the JV teams Eric Lynch, but not as good as a shooter. I believe he could develop into a great shooter one day, but i think he could have the role of replacing Lynch, but he HAS to be more consistent and get a little bigger, tough to replace a shooter like him though. Tates mid range game is almost unstoppable and Sims left handed baby hook is almost impossible to stop because of his long arms and his athleticism on defense puts major pressure on the offense. Loyland does everything rebounds, scores, blocks shots, plays D and gets loose balls and Tyler Watkins is very good at finishing around the basket. Also, Erik Waderker lets Tate move to the two or three spot where he can do more damage. Jared Azar can rebound and has a very nice foul line jumper and John Logue plays outstanding, physical defense and hustles very well. This team will be another year older and another year more mature. They could make a lot of noise nest year.
i say it will look like this next year... conference record beside the team
Belpre 10-2, loses to VC and Alex
Vinton County 9-3 loses to Belpre, Alex and Meigs
Alexander 9-3 loses to Belpre, VC and Wellston
Meigs 6-6 splits with Wellston and VC, 2 losses to Belpre and Alex
Wellston 5-7, loses to N-Y, splits with Wellston and Alex, 2 losses to VC and Belpre
Athens 2-10
Nelsonville 1-11
POY- Reggie Sims or Mark Tate, Belpre
Possible contenders All-TVC Ohio 2009
Reggie Sims- Belpre
Mark Tate- Belpre
Scott Loyland- Belpre
Tyler Watkins- Belpre
Andy Grillo- VC
Jake Prater- VC
Ethan Allen- VC
Greg Frost- Alex
Kyle Barnhouse- Alex
Eric Tolar- Alex
Clay Bolin- Meigs
Jacob Well- Meigs
Jeff Matteson- Wellston
Slone Cales- Wellston
Michael Barrick- N-Y
Matt Witten- Athens
once again, just a topic to debate, just stating my opinion, people will say way too early for this, but its just fun to look to next year and make predictions.

Give Jay Kline 5 or 6 guys that can tie their shoe laces and he'll contend. this year's team is made up of michael barrick and a bunch of guys that couldn't win jv games last year..and he competed. if jay kline stays at ny, they will be a factor for years to come...maybe not quite next year but when the sphs are seniors and his son is a soph..they will light people up...write that down and remember it...jay kline takes teams like vinton from tvc champs..to statewide respect..

There is no drama in Wellston. The kids are young and hungry and ready to continue thisie improvement.. Don't start a debate that is not true. These are great kids. They will be very improved next season. They improved alot from the beginning of the season until the end. They played very well at home within the conference. Losses to Meigs by 2, Alex by 5, Belpre by 5, beat NY by 12, Vinton by alot, so did everyone else. They need to improve on the road. They lost to VC by alot, Belpre by 16, Meigs by 15, NY by 14, Alex by alot without Coach D. They will be much improved next season. Expect them to be very good at home, and real competeive on the road. They should be much improved and a tough game for everyone they play.

They need to win the tough Wellston summer league held in June before they start talking about winning the state. Coach Kline will be pacing the sidelines in his bright orange shorts and his brown muscle shirt during the hot summer months at Wellston, getting his Buckeyes ready for the state tourney run next November. I swear that Coach K must be on steroids. He is an intimidating fixture roaming the sidelines of the summer league.

stillballin.......sounds like you really admire the way Coach Kline dresses for the "hot summer months in Wellston" (which is kinda scary)

I think VC will have a much different look next year but will still be a very good team. With guys like Prater and Allen, it could be one of the better defensive teams that Coach Combs has had at VC. The program continues to win at all levels and that plays a big role in programs reloading rather than rebuilding.
Captain Jack wrote:Very true, WTP! There is a lot of talk about Belpre and Alexander on this thread. While I do think they will be good, let's remember who the king of the Ohio is in the TVC. Vinton County is kind of like Neil Armstrong, while Alexander and Belpre are the perennial Buzz Aldrins of the TVC Ohio. They're the Oates to Vinton County's Hall, they're Robin and the Vikings are Batman. I'm sure that Alexander and Belpre will give VC a very competitive game. But remember, in this "shake n' bake" league, Vinton County is Ricky Bobby and Alexander and Belpre are Cal Naughton, Jr. GO VIKES!
I'm speechless.
That has to be the greatest pile of crap I've ever heard in my life.

in 2009 Ny finishes at or close to bottom
in 2010 Ny wins the ohio division and goes to the convo
unless they fire Jay Kline. Ny is stupid like that. if he threatens football..Ny may fire him for taking attention.
or
they might tell his good players to play football only because all anyone cares about in that place is football.
Jay Kline could make Ny a basketball school.
