unless they fire Jay Kline. Ny is stupid like that. if he threatens football..Ny may fire him for taking attention.

or

they might tell his good players to play football only because all anyone cares about in that place is football.

Jay Kline could make Ny a basketball school.

Can we please limit the Jay Kline Ego strokes to one per thread? It's like a dang broken record! We can tell by your handle you like Jay Kline, no need to beat a dead horse!

Also, Nelsonville will not win the TVC in 2010, nor will they go to the convo. Well, that is unless they hold a Jay Kline worship day there!

Vinton County is in the driver's seat for a few long years to come, Alexander and Belpre are fighting for shotgun, Meigs is in the backseat peeking over, Nelsonville and Athens are in the trunk, and Wellston.... well they're calling a cab.

Very well put, Striker! You remind me of a young Captain Jack. 8) That's a compliment, by the way. ;-)

 I can't imagine getting a better compliment than being compared to you!

The biggest advantage that Vinton Co has next year is their kids know how to do nothing but win. Coach Combs does what all coaches are supposed to do "put his kids in a position to do well" That's why the road to the TVC Championship goes thru McArthur. That being said I think Alexander with Frost, Barnhouse, and Toler, Belpre with Tate, Sims and Loyland will have the most retuning as far as scoring this season.

I'm not the guy hanging from Jay Kline's grapes  , but I wouldn't completely sleep on NY's future either.

He is playing lots of Sophs at the varsity level this year, and the JV team is basically the freshman team with a couple Sophs sprinkled in a bit. The frosh team they use is basically "some" of their freshmen.

So, the way I see it, NY has a nice Sophomore class, a solid Freshman class (suffered some injuries this year), a top flight 8th grade class, and a solid 7th grade class.

You just need 7 or 8 of those 25+ guys to pan out, and you can compete in the TVC. I'm not saying they win it in 2010, but if everything stays in place, they won't be anything to laugh about.

NY does have several nice classes coming up between grades 7-10. It's rare for NY to have that many nice classes of basketball players consecutively like that, so it will be interesting to see how that will pan out in a few years.

I think one that that has traditionally hurt NY in basketball is the fact that the NY wrestling team has been so strong over the years. A lot of athletes that might have played basketball over time opted to be on the wrestling team instead at NY. It's hard to field two winning teams during the same season at a small school, and in the winter months, NY has found success in wrestling.

That's why I'm intrigued that NY has all of these great classes of basketball players in grades 7-10. Will NY finally turn around its basketball program, or will NY make one or two runs at a championship in a few years and revert back to the old ways??? That is the million dollar question. And a follow up question would be, how will new success of the basketball program in the next few years effect the success of the wrestling team? Will boys now in elementary school be more motivated to play basketball at NY instead of wrestling if the basketball program has a few years of success? Will we see a shift in the dynamics of winter sports at NY from wrestling to basketball, or will both teams be able to maintain success?

Jay Kline, that's my coach out there. That boy can coach some basketball. He can call plays to the left, he can call plays to the right, don't make no difference. He can board, play d, score the ball, shoot the free throw, and knock it down from 3 point. Hell, the boy will fill up the Gatorade cooler, walk the dog, and paint your back porch. I'm telling ya, the boy can plain coach basketball. And he can pass!
