Did Ironton play makeup game tonight?
Burg grad...Did Ironton play a makeup game tonight against Lawrenceburg?
Northwest played a pretty tough game! If spriggs and crabtree would have made their shots that they usually make Northwest would have beaten burg..and what in the world did barrick mean when he was on the radio and he said that he used us to try new stuff because he knew this would be the place to do it? I liked spriggs' and spradlin's sportsmanship they were helping each other up everytime they fell! That's great! Good luck to the Mohawks against minford on friday! And to burg on whoever they play.
Well, the doom and gloom club from the Burg on here is at it again!
Once again, how about saying congratulations to the Pirates who played hard and got through a sluggish game (teams have those, you know?), but found a way to win anyway? I agree that the Pirate defense is good, but there has to be a more aggressive/ more effective offense for tourney time. More screens, more shooting, from the right players at the right spot at the right time, more midcourt game.... I am sure Coach Barrick knows what is needed and will implement it. JT Conley gave excellent minutes, and it would be nice to see more of that just at tourney time. Matt Stegman did an excellent job on defense.
On the upside: Nobody panicked, and some shots didn't go in, but the guys kept on , as Barrick said on the radio, "chugging along", and sometimes that's what you have to do. You cannot expect every game to go your way, especially when you are on the road on a Wednesday after a three game stretch including a road trip to Gallipolis. So, you take the wins like that against one of the best teams NWest has had in years, at their home gym, after a big victory trying to be a spoiler.... I say you take that win, pat the kids on the back and tell 'em to shoot for a long tourney run!!!! (rather than tell em the run could be short??????Go away)
Scarberry (sp?) by the way, is a very good coach (as good at working an offense as Barrick is at teaching defense)and the NW kids play solid basketball for him. They pass the ball with great movement and the right shooters get the exact shots he wants in their spots. I think he is right up there with Norm and Barrick, maybe even better with offense. I also think the Minford coach does a great job with coaching his team how to offensively move the ball, set screens, and get the ball into the right shooter's hands at the right exact moment and into the post when someone is pinned.
Scarberry always slows the game down to a crawl against Burg (did the same thing last year) and even throws out the D to force everyone except Spradlin to take shots. It didn't work, even though it was a good plan. Spradlin got 25.
Congratulations on the win, Pirates. Big game Friday! Last game in the Pirate gym, last game for eight seniors....

Great post jumpshot!!!
Good luck to the young men Friday and in the postseason. Unfortunately, the way my work schedule is set up for the next few weeks I won't be able to see a tourney game until the regional semis or finals, so I guess Fridays game will be my last for awhile. I hope they make it that far so I can see at least one game at the Convo and the boys have a shot at their third straight trip to the final 4.

My feelings exactly. Their defense is the main reason for their success with the lack of a consistent 2nd scorer. Come tourney time it will hurt them somewhere down the line. Someone will have to step up to make a deep tourney run.

Great post, jumpshot. You've got to realize who made that post.
How about everyone give Northwest a little credit. I'm a diehard Burg fan and NW came out from the get go, fired up and knocked down some big shots to jump out to a 13-4 1st qtr. lead. Burg didn't panic and climbed back into a 21-21 tie at the half. Burg got the lead in the 3rd qtr behind the strong play of Drew Spradlin and then held on in the 4th for a 10 point victory.
It is hard to beat a team when they are as hot as NW was on the 3pointers. It seemed like everytime Burg got a comfortable lead in the 2nd half, they hit a three to get them a little closer.
Burg didn't shoot the ball the greatest either, but I'd rather see them do that now rather then in the tourney. Someone mentioned that the Burg needs to get scoring from someone other then Spradlin and on most nights that has happened. Last night wasn't the case, but still yet they got enough scoring out of the other players to get the victory. NW is no slouch. They just beat an Oak Hill team last week that had beaten the Burg earlier in the season. Matt Jenkins has been knocking down some shots, Matt and Andy Stegman have been playing strong. Dustin Cook,JT Conley and Dusstin Proehl have been giving good minutes off the bench.
Everyone needs to not panic. Burg will be fine come tourney time. They are still the two time defending regional champs and they know what it takes once the second season begins. Three of the players, Spradlin, Cook and Jenkins were integral parts on the last two regional championship teams, so look for them to step it up come tourney time and lead the Pirates to hopefully another regional championship.
