People are spoiled if they are unhappy with a ten point win over a good team like Northwest. Wheelersburg outscored Northwest in three of the four quarters. And the Pirates outscored Northwest by 19 points over the last three quarters (46-27). That is pretty good numbers for a 'bad' game.

Yes the first quarter was ugly offensively. But the Pirates kept it together and came back and opened the second quarter with an 11-0 run to get back into control of the game. Northwest had a bit of a spurt to even it up at half time but the momentum was squarely in the Pirates' court. The Pirates gained a solid lead in the third. A hot shooting streak by Spriggs in the fourth made it interesting but did NOT get the game back to within one possession. The Pirates kept their cool and a steady effort saw the lead back out to its largest size of the game at the buzzer.

The experience of this squad allows them to keep plugging even when everything does not go smoothly. That can be an invaluable asset in the tournament.

He caught a stomach virus that had been going around the school, the night before the game, he was up all night sick and was physically unable to play, they could have used him for some some more boards and some garbage points!!!

Actually, I think that Northwest team is probably as good as, if not better, than every single one of the teams the Burg played against last year in the DIII tournament, all the way through the regionals. This year's tournament challenge will be much better, so getting there won't be as easy, but I sure hope the Pirates put their minds toward doing it. Go, Pirates!
