Over/under on TVC teams getting to the Convo?

Post by 93Bulldog »

This is a very interesting question ... I will put the over/under at 6 ...

Two teams are already guaranteed in.
Wellston vs Alex/Meigs winner - guarantees one team in D3.
Southern vs Miller/Trimble guarantees one team in D4.

Finding either 5 more to get 'over' six will be tricky ... Or ... Predicting an upset (seed wise) to get 'under' will also be tricky.

Games to look at:
(7) Athens vs (2) Logan Elm
(3) Vinton County vs (6) Fairfield Union
(1) Nelsonville-York vs Crooksville/River Valley
(3) Belpre vs (6) Zane Trace
(5) Federal Hocking vs (4) Southeastern
(3) Waterford vs (6) Symmes Valley
(4) South Gallia vs (5) St. Joe

I am calling the number 6, but do not see a 7th to vote over. So I shall vote under since the house wins a push!!!.

Already 3-to-1 in favor of the 'under'? lol ... Come on now.

I'm gonna throw my bet into the ring and say OVER!

My heart tells me VINTON COUNTY slips by Fairfield Union (but the Vikes need to be healthy!) ... Nelsonville-York makes four teams ... Belpre beating Zane Trace will give the TVC five ... Waterford, a 3-seed, beating 6th seeded Symmes Valley makes six ... and then you are left with either South Gallia beating St. Joe (very possible) or (5) Federal Hocking knocking off (4) Southeastern to make it seven teams!

Would love to see my Bulldogs upset Logan Elm and both South Gallia & Federal Hocking win - which would give the TVC 9 teams in!!! lol

Honestly - I can definitly see as many as 8 teams reaching the Convo.

1. Southern
2. Wellston
3. Nelsonville-York
4. Waterford
5. Vinton County
6. Belpre
7. South Gallia
8. Federal Hocking ... Give me a 1-game playoff with Howie Caldwell at the helm ... I'll take that bet, especially since the Lancers have won 4-straight over BELPRE, WATERFORD, SOUTH GALLIA & MORGAN.

(VOTING JUST WENT TO 5-to-1 IN FAVOR OF THE UNDER ... I guess my post didn't help much ... lol)

- I'm curious who voted for the over?

I voted over you have two teams already in Wellston vs Alex/Meigs and Southern vs Miller/Trimble.
I really like Vinton Co., Belpre and Federal Hocking. I also think Waterford, NY and SG should make it. I look for Athens to give LE a little scare in their game and keep it close.

I could see it going over or under honestly ..but based on how the TVC did in the non league this year, I would guess 4 make it.

You outta be a ashamed of yourself Dundas! 4 teams? really?

We already have two guaranteed in ... Add No. 1 seeds (Southern & Nelsonville-York) - and that's four right there.

You still have No. 2 seed Wellston ... No. 3 seed Belpre ... No. 3 seed Waterford ... No. 3 seed Vinton County.

ALL OF THEM SURELY CAN'T BE UPSET can they?

I guess with the way the season has gone for VC, I'm just a debbie downer.. lol Coach Combs has us VC fans use to winning 16+ games a year... With that said though, I could see 4-6 getting in. I hope I'm wrong, but we will see!! Ill be in Logan early cheering for the Dogs against LE!

Nelsonvillle york should get in but after that there are no clear advantages. TVC teams playing against other conferences is not a good thing. Seeds are very misleading because other teams play in much tougher leagues and come in with poorer records.

Vinton Co. always struggles once they get into the tourny against schools of comparable size.

Belpre-Zane Trace is one of those games where the seeding is very misleading. Trace is probably the better team.

Federal-Southeastern---again southeastern has got to be the favorite due to playing a much tougher schedule.

Waterford can win if the good version shows up,

South gallia should beat Ironton St. Joe.

My guess is the Number will be 5, so Im taking the UNDER. Hope Im wrong.

johnny ringo I got to disagree with you on Vinton Co always struggling. They have been to the Convo quite a few times in the last ten years. Combs will have them ready for the tournament. I don't think Ross or Zane Trace has played anyone as tough as Warren which Belpre played twice. I think Belpre and Fed both have very winnable games if they play like they are capable of.

93 did you vote twice? You and I are the only ones picking over and there are three votes for over. Who is the third vote?

I think you can only vote once ...

The whole Vinton County observation by Ringo ... Are you not old enough to remember any basketball going back to 2004?

2004 - Vinton County - reached distict championship game.
2007 - Vinton County - reached district semi-finals
2008 - Vinton County - District champions
2009 - VInton County - reached district semi-finals

of the teams at Athens sectional Federal has the best shot. Nelsonville will not advance I'm taking Crooksville to get out. Look for Alex over Wellston and getting to the Convo and Belpre is a toss up. In Logan both Athens and Vinton lose. Now where the TVC can get some teams in is DIV since it's so weak. I'm on the under.

You guys are killing me here! lol

1. I watched the NY/Crooksville game earlier this season - The Buckeyes will be fine ... But after seeing where Crooksville lost to Morgan the other night - I'm not so sure it won't be River Valley playing NY.
2. Belpre can beat Zane Trace - I have a lot of faith in the TVC-Hocking champs.
3. We still have the two guarantees (Southern, Wellston/Alex/Meigs.)
4. South Gallia can run people off the floor - I have the Rebles 'IN' at the Convo - and could be a very dangerous team to face.
5. South Gallia beat Symmes Valley by almost 30 points earlier in the season - I'll take Tate Lang and the Waterford Wildcats in that match-up with S.V.
6. It basically comes down to two match-ups ... The Vinton County/Fairfield Union and Federal Hocking/Southeastern games ... All I need is one of the two teams to win and I'm taking home the cash on the over! lol

I think if you would have set the line at 5.5 games the votes would be reversed with the majority going over. I think they will win 6 games.

How do you figure? Vinton County has made it to the Convo a number of times since Combs has been there.

2008 - Vinton County - District champions
2009 - VInton County - reached district semi-finals
guess you and I determine "success" much differently.

heres why:

VC regular season records:

2004: 17-3
2005: 14-6
2006: 12-8
2007: 20-0
2008: 19-1
2009: 17-3
2010: 15-5

now, thats a combined regular season record of 113-26 in the past 7 seasons. In those 7 seasons, they failed to get out of the sectional twice and have only 1 district championship. That certainly isnt tourny success in my opinion.

your a research guy, find me another team in the STATE OF OHIO with that regular season winning percentage over the last 7 years, or any 7 year period for that matter, with as little tourny success as VC has had. GOOD LUCK!
