Neutron Man, Brian White is a Wheelersburg graduate who is head coach at Hilliard Davidson. He is a fundamentally sound coach who loves to run the ball (what else for a Burg grad?) And his team won the State last year in football.
I do not know the man personally but those that do really admire him. And those that know him say that he is not interested in leaving the Wildcat program that he has established.

Because of the location and pay Burg can give. It will be hard to attract someone of the Caliber of coach White. The committee needs to look for an up and coming assistant coach or a HC of a small school who has had some success and meets the qualifications mentioned above. As long as who is hired can attract quality assistants then Wheelersburg Football should see nothing more than a speed bump in their transition. The next guy needs to try to keep as many assistants as possible that can work in their system.
Just to add to what drrabbit said, white is a burg grad who went on to play 4 yrs at Capital. He was an assistant at Desales, head coach at groveport, dublin scioto and now at Hilliard Davidson. There was a span between 2005-2007 where his teams won 29-30 straight regular season games and wrapped up the 06 season by going 15-0 and brought home a Div 1 state championship to hilliard. I just through his name out there but I don't think the burg has a very realistic shot at him. John Eaton did consult with him about some things when the burg had there last coaching change and it wouldn't surprise me if he is consulted this time as well.

Folks, you can forget about Brian White. I would be very suprised that he would ever come back. I'm sure that he is still loyal to his alma mater, but he has definitely attained a great deal of success on the bigger stage of Ohio High School football. His next move will be upward, meaning possibly a college position or a more visible DI program in Ohio. I think that drabbits post described Rob Woodward to a T. He is a young man that i think could lead this program for the long haul. I for one would love to see him get the job.

My only question would be if Coach Woodward would be commited for the long term. I know his family are in Gallia County and I believe he was at one point trying to return there.

With all do respect to Mr Ashley, I do not think the answer to our situation is an already twice recycled SOC Coach.
I only hope that the administration with do a thorough and exhaustive search and find the candidate who is most qualified to continue the tradition of athletic and academic excellence at Wheelersburg all the while transforming young boys into respectable young men.

burgbacker:
The difference between your opinion and mine is that you choose to see that he has coached at two other SOC schools while I choose to see that he has been successful, is very knowledgeable about the game, and is a man of character. Maybe the big difference in our opinions is that he is a personal friend of mine and that I know him very well and that you don't, I don't know.
In any case, I don't know if Bob is even interested in coaching again. He is a fine coach and person and some school will be very fortunate to have him if he does choose to coach again.

I meant no disrespect to Coach Ashley, but I can see where that may have been construed from what I said. My point should have been made more clearly. I have heard great things about Coach Ashley as a man of character and integrity. In no way did I mean to call those things into question.
Wheelersburg has had a large amount of success int he recent past with hiring coaches who had little or no coaching ties to Southern Ohio before coming to Wheelersburg (i.e. Lewis, Barrick in basketball, Estep in baseball)
I think that if they choose to go outside of the current staff, then I personally would prefer someone with little or no ties to the current state of Southern Ohio football. Someone who would come in with a clean slate, a new vision, and a fresh fire to motivate the kids.
Hope that clears things up.

I agree with BULDOG on Woodward. Even though he probably would be a good candidate for the job, would he fly the coop also if say Gallipolis came calling?
drrabbit's post hit the nail on the head. This new coach needs to show a passion for all of the kids in the school, not just the ones on the football team.
Should be interesting over the next few weeks to see who gets the job. No matter who it is, he will be expected to uphold a tradition of winning at the Burg. Sometimes pressure like that can get to a coach. This person will be need to be thick skinned, because if he doesn't win, he will hear about it.

I think Rob Woodward would be in for the long run, he once has said before he want's a head coaching job. If you would take a poll with the boy's and parent's i would bet that 99% of them would love to play for Woodward. If you watch Rob on the sidelines you can tell he will make somebody a great coach. He is always positive(when you make mistake he is not there waiting on you to tear your a$$, he will tell you what you did wrong pat you on the back and tell you get back in there and do it) you can't say that about all of the other coaches..

I don't know Mr Woodward so this is not directed at him but there is more than being the most popular assistant in being head coach at a place like Wheelersburg that has been highly successful the last 34 years. I'd think that the Superintendent would do a search like done for Coach Lewis and get the best person for the job which might be one of the assistant coaches.
