From what I hear, the OHSAA approved the use of Freshman that played varsity for the tournament. Evidently it is up to the individual schools to play the Freshman or not.I'm sure Alexander coaches was aware of Watkins playing on the varsity when they played last Saturday. If it was a violation I'm sure they would have said something.

Say what you want, if you dress for the varsity in a sectional tournament you are not allowed to play in a freshman tournament period or in you play in a freshman tournament you can not play in the OHSAA tournament with the varsity. It's illegal. The rule is very clear. Now what is the penalty for that? Do they lose game next year? Will the player not be allowed to play next year? Someone might want to check on it. It doesn't matter if it's affiliated with the OHSAA. One tournament per player. Now you can play freshman in the OHSAA tournament but he can't than go down and play in a TVC or any other tournament.

That is how I understand the rule, one post season tournament per player. No exceptions. However, I think it is just WRONG to take a kid that has not played or practice or seldom practices with a Freshman team while he or she for that matter has hone their skills with a higher level team. It is not fair to that kid and especially a kid or kids on the Freshman team. "Sorry Bobby, I know you have started, you play hard and you given this team everything we have asked for, but we are bringing Johnny down because he is better than you and he will take your minutes in the tournament." Come on!!

Because of numbers OHSAA was contacted and as long as Belpre was out of the Varsity tourny it was OK. It's not like they are just now playing Freshman ball they played on and off all year so Belpre could have a 9th grade team for the first time in several years. Plus they never hit the 90 quarter limit.

I've never known the OHSAA to be "flexible" in their rules. I would be amazed if they allowed it "because" of numbers. Too late now anyway, the games are over.

Looks like Vinton and Alex have taken the high road.

How many players does Belpre have? I know VC played with 7 all season last year and still didn't move any of the 3 JV players down come tournament time.

They have six players without Watkins and Waderker. Waderker chose not to play Freshman so with Watkins they dress 7 players

That Fed Hock team was pretty good. I would have to say Belpre is the odds on favorite to roll through this thing then.

I'll be suprised if Alexander doesn't check with OHSAA to see if the kid got the ok

Read remarks before this was checked with OHSAA and it was ok.. Give the coaches some credit...

Maybe it was checked, but you still have to admit, it's bush league.

He is a Freshman playing on the Freshman team that he played on for over half of the season. It wouldn't be fair to the other Freshman kids to not allow him to play with them now and give them a chance to be competitive in the tournament.Remember he is still a Freshman playing against Freshman and not a Junior or Senior playing against Freshman so there is no advantage given to Belpre because of his playing.Your team lost to Athens in the first game so get over it Captain Jack

If you remember the Freshman game in Vinton County Belpre nearly beat VC without Watkins or Waderker and VC had no defense for RaShawn Miller who scored 34 points. I don't think those two would have been able to handle Belpre's full Freshman team
