Re: Warren Local vs Logan Elm
I'm sorry I missed the game, but I got a late start and the roads got really nasty really quick. Quick enough that Logan Elm is closed tomorrow (snow day #8!). Anyway about the game . . .
Way to play that nasty DEFENSE! GO BRAVES! Bring on the Cavs!

I braved the weather and made the half hour 50 minute trip to the Convo. And what I saw was a smart, disciplined and well coached machine. And the Cavs are good too. Anyways, I thought LE exposed Warren weakness, the lack of a true point guard and a true scorer. The Braves have four guards that can handle and shoot the rock and that alone will create problems for Chillicothe.

Wow...What can a unbiased observer say about a game that turned in a few minute stretch from a potential blowout one way to a factual blowout the other way.
Warren came out playing just like they did against Chillicothe. Physical and tough D, combined with some nice motion and movement to the hoops got them an 11-4 lead. Hitchbone Sr. looked at me and thought it was going to be a blow out. Next thing I say was Logan Elm collapsing the D and Warren forcing pass after pass after pass. Then when there was a shot, they were off balance. #23 for LE had two early fouls and Warren did not capatalize. Likewise, #4 for Warren looked good early, but went to the bench and stayed to long.
We left at halftime because the "Fat Lady had all ready sang". I saw the Warren players walk off looking dejected and the LE players had a pep in their step.
Congrats to LE and I will say the bantering (hopefully good natured) will start with the Cavs fan sometime tomorrow.
Hope everyone had safe travels home on some brutal roads coming out of Athens.
GO CAVS!!!

Re: Warren Local vs Logan Elm
Got there in the second quarter. Logan Elm did a good job of getting out in transition in the second quarter and that kind of got things going. Warren had one field goal in the period and LE forced seven turnovers. Congrove had 22 points, Adam Blake nine and a good floor game according to assistant Jeff Holbert. Zach Holbrook seven and Largent six.
Good win for the Braves. Now a big underdog game against Chillicothe.

Re: Warren Local vs Logan Elm
logan elm was definitly a well coached team...it seemed as though they tried out a game plan in the first few minutes and they realized that wasn't going to work so they went back to what i assume is the real logan elm team and they looked good...it seemed as though after warren pulled ahead 11-4 they put it on cruise control and totally lost the effort...i think i would have made a line change about midway through the 2nd quarter because the effort by the group on the floor was defintly gone...if warren would have worked the ball inside like they did in the last quarter they would have won...logan elm's ball pressure was amazing...it looked like warren's point guards hadn't handled a ball all year...it was a good year for the warriors but they ended pretty ugly in my opinion...i think they got beat all around...coaching included...i think the warriors just seem to be content with making it to the convo and don't really care if they win and get to play two or more games there...now its time to start getting ready for next year...get in the weight room boys!....

Re: Warren Local vs Logan Elm
Congrats to Logan Elm. The defense they played was amazing. I heard Warren had 25 turnovers . . . WOW. A 27-2 run is hard to overcome when you are playing a team as tough as LE. Warren had one of those shooting nights that makes it hard to win. However, the poor shooting was due as much as anything else to the pressure defense. Our seniors this year had a good season. Warren seldom sees a group of 7 players go through the program together. They will be tough to replace.
Now it's time for the returning players to step-up and do the hard work that will get us ready for next season. The work the team puts in before next season will determine its success.
I'm proud to be a Warren fan.

Warren is a quality community with quality kids, coaches and sports programs. Maddox is a class act. The community should be proud of them.

Re: Warren Local vs Logan Elm
diehard...i think i would have tried something other than letting my group of players that were out there play with the lack of intensity they did...maybe make a few subs to give them a rest and try to turn the momentum around...heck i would have done anything to try and give them a spark...looked like after the first quarter and a half they thought they were beat and you could tell by the actions on the court and when they went into the locker room at half-time...then they looked the same way coming back out of the locker room...not blaming the kids..logan elm was a good ball club but i think they could have and should have been beat...what would you have done?...

ibleedblue24, What should have been done was back in Nov. the coaches should have figured out a offense and defense that would have suited the type of players and personel they have and then exploited each players strengths and abilities in there game plans. Thats my theory, has to be established day one of practice and fined tuned during the season and then you are ready for tourny time.

Re: Warren Local vs Logan Elm
ibleedblue24, once a coach shows he is defeated in a game such as Warrens coach did midway thru 2nd qtr, how do you expect the kids to respond. It showed on the court and when they come out of the locker room in 2nd half. LE come out fired up and Warren come out with heads down, must have been a real good half time pep talk. Coach was beat before he stepped on the floor, you could feel it in the air. It makes no difference to me as i do not have any kids involved but being a Diehard Warren Fan for years it would be nice to see some changes made. I also think it would be good for future Warren athletes.

diehard...i agree 100%...i could also tell before the game even started that they were content with just playing at the convo...i said just before tip-off that they were going to get beat by 10 but i was wrong...it was worse than that...like i said in my last post i am not blaming it on the players...must not have ben a real inspirational half time speech...but then again we are all coaches when we are in the stands...haha

You have been pretty critical of Maddox all year. He has won more league SEOAL titles then any other coach Warren has had. He has taken them as far in the tourney as anyone else.
You talk alot about playing to strengths etc. I am curious to hear what you think would be each of their strengths? What type of defense and offense would you prefer? Don't just sit back and complain unless you have an alternative or an answer.
Players play and coaches coach. You win together and you lose together. Once the fans get behind their team, players and coaches instead of contantly second guessing players and coaches maybe the level can go up. It does no good to get on here and say we were out coached or little johnny should be playing etc. I think alot of fans out there are more happy if little johnny plays 32 minutes and scores 20 and the team loses then if the team wins and little johnny plays 10 minutes and scores 4.

Nice post, FF. You know we probably have more in common than not. But I won't tell anyone, if you don't.

Well said. I don't have a dog in this, but Maddox does a really nice job with the Warren program. They had a good deal of injuries, sickness, etc. this year, but still managed to finish very respectfully in the SEOAL. Long-term, Warren is in very good hands with the setup they have now.
Congrats to the Logan Elm Braves on the win. The Chilli/LE game might just be a real throw-down.
Re: Warren Local vs Logan Elm
Coach Maddox does a good job with the Warren program. Logan Elm was the better team, just like when LE lost to Greenfield last year at the semifinal level, the Tigers were the better team. A good season for the Warriors and congrats.

Re: Warren Local vs Logan Elm
This forum is great for scores and comments and updates on teams in SE Ohio. Unfortunately it can also be negative and can really hurt kids and families who have put years of work into their game and who have strived for excellence. Just like I did in person at the lockeroom ( and just like we have done for 9 season ) all of the coaches got to thank and say goodbye to our seniors at the Convo on Thursday. I watched these kids grow up. Most of them came to our camp at Warren from the 2nd grade on. I have been given the opportunity to coach many, many, many great kids at Warren High School over the past 10 years. They are great kids because they have great parents and grandparents who all live in the community and give them support. It is rare for a non-teacher like myself to be afforded this type of opportunity. Anyone who wants to take a shot at our program knows nothing about Coach Maddox, nothing about Sally Maddox, nothing about me, and nothing about what we try to teach and what we try to instill in each and every one of the players who put on a Warren uniform. There is much more to teach than just basketball. When you put that uniform away for the final time, how are you going to live the rest of your life? I have been in over 900 practices with Coach Maddox. Together we have coached over 375 games. I have been in the locker room at every half time ( including Logan Elm ), and I have read every scouting report, and drilled the report in practice with the J.V. players for 9 years. If you think anything was left out ( or ever has been left out ) then you simply have no idea about the work ethic, integrity, dedication, desire, and tough and competive nature of Coach Maddox. Not every player responds to the same type of coaching. Todays athlete is far different than 20 years ago when Coach Maddox and I started. Mr. and Mrs. Maddox are outstanding teachers in Warren High School and are exactly the type of role models anybody would want for their children. The vision of Mr. Fouss, Mr. Leffingwell, and the Board of Education in bringing them to Warren 10 years ago was a good one. I have just been lucky to hang around and learn. If you think I am wrong, then talk to any of our former players, and talk to anyone who works with them at Warren High school. Coach and I love all of our seniors, just like we have all the other ones. Nothing makes us feel better than an alumni stopping by the locker room before a game. I have memories that will last a lifetime. Educate yourself on what is really happening before you point fingers. Don't comment on scouting, preparation, and half time if you don't know what transpired. We don't show up at your place of employment and critic your preformance. Coach and I have put our heart and soul into Warren Basketball. We will never look back with any regrets. We love and care about our players on and off the floor. Anybody who knows either of us knows where we stand. If you don't know, my number is in the book. I will be happy to educate you. Also, many thanks to JOTTINGS for seeking out and posting all of the J.V. scores over the years. It is extra work for him, and I appreciate it. GOODBYE SENIORS !!!!, Underclassman, it is time to get to work!! GO WARRIORS !!!!!
