Re: 2/25 Western vs. Reedsville Eastern
Congrats to Western on coming from behind and picking up the win. Now it's on to go for the 2nd District Championship in as many years. Shanks and Penwell took charge in making the comeback happen, and according the announcer at the game, they said Shanks ended up with 19. Lynch lead Eastern with 19 as well...A good hard fought effort from the Eagles, and a fine season indeed. Good luck to Western the rest of the way

Thanks for explaining that guys. All they said in the other post was that a call changed the game and propeled Western to the win.
Re: 2/25 Western vs. Reedsville Eastern
Eastern lost composure, which stinks because the TVC could have had a great night.
The real bad thing for Eastern was with 10 seconds left and Western misses the front end of the 1&1, but Eastern forgets to box out the shooter!!! Western was only up 2 at that point and 10 seconds is an eternity for Howie and the boys.
Great season Eastern, you still represented yourselves and the TVC well.

The goal tending call was wrong and should have been just a T like hardfowl already mentioned. That is just the way some games go. Eastern lost quite a few games that way this year with a lead in the 3rd. They just need to learn to finish. Eastern will be back stronger next year and look out in 2 years Congrats to Western on the win.

Re: 2/25 Western vs. Reedsville Eastern
i saw the play you guys are talking about. it was much closer than explained. the ball was not on it's way back toward the free throw line when the rim was grabbed. at the very least it was just above the rim, but clearly going to fall out away from the bucket. i think that same call would be made 9 times out of 10.
having said that, the boy who grabbed the rim should not carry the weight of that loss for eastern. the entire team lost composure in the last period, trying to force things. i agree that the lack of boxing the free throw shooter with 10 seconds was a prime example of the loss of composure.
from what it sounds like this is a young team, which explains the inability to finish out close games. that lonly means they will be a force to be reckoned with in the coming year(s).

Re: 2/25 Western vs. Reedsville Eastern
eastern has NOTHING to hang their heads about on this one. they played HARD the whole game. it just so happens that when the talked about play happened, it sent western over the edge. western is known for be the "comeback kids" especially in the fourth quarter. plus, the indians did have last year's experience at the CONVO under their belts, so not AS MUCH jitters as maybe eastern might have had. i dont know though, just my thoughts on it all. but both teams played excellent, but one team had to be up at the buzzer...
Re: 2/25 Western vs. Reedsville Eastern
I had a perfect side view of the ball. It was a slam dunk attempt that missed and and the ball came very quickly back in the direction of the foul line; meaning straight back. The ball was clearly out of the cylinder and the goal tending call was wrong!! The ball had zero chance of going in. In no way did I mean to imply that the call cost Eastern the game; just that the momentum seemed to change.
Re: 2/25 Western vs. Reedsville Eastern
Boo Hoo Hoo was the ball in the cylinder or was it out. Thats like is the glass half full or half empty! The Ref called it like he saw it game over. Eastern has got a good team don't let one call spoil your season. A very valliant effort on your part. A team to worry about for the next few years for sure.

I gotta agree with Hardfowl but that is just part of the game these days. Refs seem to play a part in the outcome of too many games.

Re: 2/25 Western vs. Reedsville Eastern
The refs definately affect the outcome of the game. Had they called the fouls the first half, Western would have been up at the half and Eastern in foul trouble. I don't say that to criticize a very good Eastern team. They played aggressive and wanted to win. It wasn't till the second half that Western began playing aggressive on the ball as well. Most of Western's turnovers the first half were the result of the aggressive play by Eastern and there was a lot of contact permitted. Going to an earlier thread, I hate the inconsistency of officiating. I know it is part of the game, but wins and losses are often contributed to how the officating matches your teams style of play. A foul is a foul - call it. This let them play crap is ridiculous (there is a reason there are three trained officials on the court - to see and call the fouls). They will make mistakes, that is acceptable. But when you give the officials the power to decide not to call a foul that they obviously have seen, you are making them decide the outcome of the game, not the players. Rules are rules (you can't carry the ball and you can't steal the ball by making contact (grabbing, pushing, blocking) the dribbler.

I believe that Eastern will be more prepared next season. The majority of this years team was made up of Sophmores when the Seniors were out due to sickness.
Re: 2/25 Western vs. Reedsville Eastern
Rawson will be hard to replace though with all the charges he took.
Re: 2/25 Western vs. Reedsville Eastern
On the play your all talking about you have to remember where the ref was when it happen. He was behind the rim off to the side, so i dont think he could tell if it was going in or bouncing out. The key is that it shouldnt have been a issue. The kid had no reason for going up and grabbing the rim, because the guy who tried to slam was in front of him 2 steps when he went up so there was no way to block the shot. All he had to do is stop and get the rebound.
But ill agree it changed to momentum of the game.
