By whoopin, are you talking about the kind that Chilli has taken for years and years until they lucked out and got dropped down a division to compete against many teams barely larger than D3? A town the size of Chilli playing the schools that they play in the tourney is a joke.

Oh, and what is with the large blue print - trying to compensate because you lack in other areas?

Which one does not belong? (I'll make it easy for you, I'll put it at the top)

Population (http://ohio.hometownlocator.com)

Chillicothe: 21,796
Hillsboro: 6,368
Greenfield:4,906
McArthur: 1,888
Gallipolis: 4,180
Jackson: 6,184
Circleville: 13,485
Marietta: 14,515
Ironton: 11,211

Here you go:

1. Chillicothe: 21,796................Chillicothe Cavaliers (335 Boys)
2. Hillsboro: 6,368....................Hillsboro Indians (339 Boys)
3. Greenfield:4,906...................Greenfield McClain Tigers (301 Boys)
4. McArthur: 1,888...................McArthur Vinton County Vikings (295 Boys)
5. Gallipolis: 4,180.....................Gallia Academy (247 Boys)
6. Jackson: 6,184.......................Jackson Ironmen (378 Boys)
7. Circleville: 13,485....................Circleville Tigers (283 Boys)
8. Marietta: 14,515......................Marietta Tigers (389 Boys)
9. Ironton: 11,211.......................Ironton Fighting Tigers (216 Boys)

mhs82,

You were saying :?:
I know its not a school in question here, but, I bet Logan gets alot of kids from outside the town of Logan.Thats what pushes them to D1 not the population of the town of Logan. If you went on the towns size they might be D3.It didn't look all that big to me.It's a big district. What would the closest school to them be? Nelsonville York?

army, you posted the numbers, now look at them. How do you get almost 22,000 people in your community, yet only 335 boys in three grades? Yet Highland County only has approx. 42,000 in the ENTIRE county, with FIVE schools, and yet Hillsboro and McClain can combine for 640 boys ( and that is without counting Fairfield, Whiteoak, and Lynchburg). Looks to me like people don't want to send their kids to Chilli, or Chilli has an awful high drop out/nonattendance rate. I know the first to be true because I have two friends (one a Chilli grad and the other married to a Chilli grad) who refuse to send their kids to Chilli - instead opting for Unioto and SE.

MHS, it's called an aging population. Anyone in/around Chillicothe for the last 15-20 years can easily tell you that the amount people age 60 and over in the city is up there. However, most (not all) young families have decided to build new, or newer, and live in the nearby surrounding townships. Thus, the huge growth of the Unioto school district, with Zane Trace not far behind. Check out cities like Springfield, Youngstown, Portsmouth, Zanesville, Warren, etc. Very similar, but different scales. City population is not a direct indication of student enrollment, age of the families in that city is.

Do you honestly think that everyone in Chilli could go to one school. Unioto is IN CHILLICOTHE it is not even really a county school anymore.
Two blocks from CHS and your not in CHS district. From the 2000 census..."Chillicothe's land area is 9.5 square miles" All of that doesn't even contribute to CHS. There are 8 schools(I think) in Ross County. Unioto, Zane Trace, Southeastern, and Huntington all take away from enrollment for the same reason that people in the suburbs of Columbus don't go to Columbus City schools. If you live outside of the district you don't go to that school.ld guess that the CHS district is about 6 sq. miles. I bet that Hillsboro, McCLain, VC, etc are all mush biggger. So there you go.

The population of Chillicothe is established. All of the available houses are taken up by people who have lived there for a long time and have already had their kids leave the house. If you were to move into a city would you...a) search and search for a house and take what you can get, wherever you can get it,for whatever they want to charge ...or b) build a house on the edge of town(in another district) exactly how you want it. That is what happens. When new families move in to start a family and have kids, they do it where there is room for new population...which means...OUTSIDE of the Chilly school district. 20 years ago you would have been correct MHS. Today, you are just ignorant and childish. I am sorry that the big bad city boys beat the best team your farm boys have ever had and if you get by VC then they will put a whoopin to you again. If it seems unfair just shrink the size of your school district to the size of Chillicothe's and be d-4 in bball and d6 in football. But then again if you would have done that Dante Jackson would have gone to another school. Untill then don't complain because you have to play schools your own size with athletes.

As for taking shots at Chillicothe's education, I would ask you to find another school in the area with as many: AP classes( AP stands for advanced placement since you probably were never giventhat opportunity and therefore don't know), clubs, sports, class choices, and just general opportunities. I know that some take there kids to other schools. In my experience that is usually a political issue and if they based their decision solely on quality of eduacation and the experience it would seldom happen. Many also come in for the opportunity to take challenging courses, sports, clubs, plays, etc.

AS for Chilli takin whoopins in the past and luckin out to play smaller schools and win...how about Chilli used to be the 2nd smallest school in a league of 30 teams. I remember a Chilli football team with 60 kids playing against Upper Arlington who had 125. Grove City had over 300 band members. D-1 teams with 2,000 kids when we were barely larger than d-3. So how about you get your facts straight. Chilli got "lucky" and started playing schools its own size and is now very good. We don't schedule d-5 schools and lose like McClain in football, and we don't play SVC schools with our non-conference games in basketball so think before you criticize an entire town because you are jealous that we have a good team this year and your meal ticket(Dante Jackson) Graduated.

To any other McClain supporters who may read this: I respect most of you and your program. I hope that Chilli can eventually achieve the long term succes you guys have had and establish a program as rich as yours. It is only the ignorant comments of MHS that I disagree with.

mhs....why would I be crying about that, Mclain was the superior team this year , end of story, I swear some fans cant even win with a little dignity.

and your argument about enrollment? So what are you implying? that CHS lies about numbers? You really have some issues, let it go , irrational hatred toward a school is crazy in my book.

an they arent all sending thier kids somewhere else, unless there has been a population explosion with the over 60 crowd i havent read about. SE went from 138 boys last year to 153 I believe this year due to a lopsided boys to girls ratio in the 9th grade class. So I dont see a huge exodus to the hills, you really are funny.

wow i used to think MHS was an alright poster. he's sure showing his butt on this one (not that i havent before myself).

sounds to me like this is a classic case of since my school is the underdog for once, there must be an unfair reason why the other team is the favorite. and there is....its called talent.

DShanton and others: In my total dislike for Army, I guess I unintentionally posted some things that did not appear to put CHS in the best of light. I honestly was not trying to put the school or city down (I have friends kids in the school and my son is buried in the city). I was just trying to push Army's buttons to piss him off because I flat out don't like him. I have received a private message from a Chilli poster that I totally respect and he had some very encouraging words for me - seems I am not alone in my feelings. I will in the future resort back to my previous policy of totally disregarding anything and everything that Army posts in order to prevent future misunderstandings. I really do think it would be great for both the city and SE Ohio for Chilli to win the state - that is if McClain can't beat them. I just posted what I did because I knew it would get under Army's skin. So to everyone not Army, my apologies.

I'm taking the Braves in this one, I don't look at it as an upset, when teams get this far they deserve to be there!!!

Cavs seem to be looking ahead at the state, and that can be dangerous.

On difference BBall(I won't call you Dumb)....

The Cavs on the court are not looking ahead anywhere. Yes, some fans are and many who just have watched us this year. Right now, LE is the most dangerous team we will face (because it is Friday), but in reality they may be the best team we face going forward through the Regional (if we are lucky enough to advance).

No upsets when you get to the District finals. You are correct, so you can't look past anyone. Therefore, we will bring the heat Friday night. Might be cold outside, but the Convo will be approaching to semi quote Nolan Richardson of the National Champion Arkansas Razorbacks "32 minutes of Hell!" IT IS ABOUT TIME FOR BASKETBALL 30 AT THE CONVO. I AM GETTING JACKED.

GO CAVS!!! REFUSE TO LOSE!!! TAKE NO PRISONERS!!!
