2/29 Chillicothe vs Logan Elm

Chilly usually makes shots with hands in faces. they shot 37 percent tonight. by far a season low. it was just one of those nights.

pineapple, they started off mixing it up but eventually settled into a box and 1 on hump but it wasnt really needed he might as well have been shooting blindfolded tonight.

my worst fear came to reality tonight, Logan Elm came out hitting everything in sight and Chilli came out playing their worst ball of the year. Much credit is due to Stiverson for a great game plan, but also to the Logan Elm players for absolutely shooting the lights out of the ball especially early enroute to 64% for the game from the field. Chilli was abysmal at 37%. Humpty played perhaps the worst game of his career, the bigs couldnt make layups, and we were consistently slow rotating over on D leading to layups when they didnt get wide open 3's. Chilli really did not deserve to win this game tonight and they should feel like they stole something. Tough break for Logan Elm. Chilli i hope this is a reality check and you get back to playing the ball you played most of the regular season because the team that was on the court tonight didnt resemble them at all. Congrats on a fine season Braves, you guys are a class program and it seems to be a really good group of kids playing at Logan Elm. Chilli....pick it up

Just curious does anyone know what kind of defense LE was running against chillicothe?

LE mixed it up, but most of the time played us straight up. No gimics, but I did see them put someone in Humps jersey (bascially saying don't let him score). LE deserves credit and we just could not knock down shots. My guess is we missed over 15 shots inside the paint (similiar to the DeSales game last year).

Cavs had their backs against the wall, but played like Champions and got off the mat and got it done. Main thing is we got the W. This game will be talked about for days, but I for one am looking ahead to Vinton County. Guthrie is a beast inside.

I think you will be surprised when you see the final stats. We only took 7 3-balls in the game. I also was keeping track of certain players shots and while Hump did not get his typical 50%, he was probably in line with the 35% plus that we shot as a team. I thought the misses in the paint were even more crucial, as we missed some point blank bunnies. However, when control the glass like we did, you can get by with that. I get more discouraged about missing the FT. If we hit a few more of the free throws, this is a 5-8 pts win. I also may have missed the Box and 1, but most of the time, I saw them straight up man, with one in Humps pocket. Then again, I am getting to old to see.

I'd think Chilli will have a hard week of practice after that one. I believe the game tonight was really for the region. Chilli should beat Vinton by 5-10 and then torch the eastern winner.

every championship team has atleast one game in the tourny where they dont play their best, in the end they find a way to win regardless and that is what makes them champions!

After tonights game I would not be predicting any scores. Survive and advance that's what the Cavs did tonight. Every deep tourney run you usually have a game you look back on and say you stole. LE outplayed them, shot over 60% for the game, had a better gameplan and frankly deserved to win the game. Coach Stiverson and his staff IMO did the best coaching job over in Athens tonight.

The Cavaliers are starting to remind me of the Memphis Tigers (I'm not saying that is a bad thing - Memphis is darn good) but they struggle in their half-court offense and are not a good FT shooting team. They had chances at the end to put the game away but was one more missed FT away from going into OT with their leader having 4 fouls.

The Cavs desperatly need a 3rd scorer to emerge. I saw a lot of box and 1 tonight out of LE and their were open looks on the backside and on the wings but nobody stepped up wanting the ball. I don't want to be too critical because again look at Dover in the East district, Moeller, Northland, etc. all very good ball teams that are out of the show goes to tell you on any night it you can be upset. One game doesn't define the team you are but it this game did show some things that I'm sure will keep them busy next week.

Good luck Cavs! Congrats on District Championship, and congratulations to Dan Ramey (Cavs play-by-play) on your award tonight. IMO he is the best around and does a tremendous job broadcasting and promoting Cavalier sports.

Nice, (^^^) Burggrad!!! Just echoing a few previous posters on this one. LE deserves alot of credit, as this sport can (almost) always be measured in the end on who does, and who doesn't make shots. That number alone should have been the game, set, and match in last night's contest. But, listening to the final stats (from WKKJ), the difference may very well have been the turnover margin. As poorly as Chilly shot, they only had 7 turnovers to the Braves 17. Most of those really weren't against too much full-court trapping. Some errant passes in the half-court, a couple 5 second calls, and a few knocked from the hands balls at crucial times may have decided this one. Truly a "David vs. Goliath" game where David simply ran out of rocks. As one poster reffered to: Northland, Moeller, Liberty-Benton, and other top ranked teams have gotten knocked-off in the last week or so. Nothing in high school tourney action should be shocking anymore. The Cavs live to see another day.

Chambers was the difference. Without him, Logan Elm wins this game by 10 points. The turnovers played a roll but Chambers was the offense during wide stretches of the game and was creating the second, third and fourth chances.

Congratulations to the Cavaliers on the exciting win, and also I want to commend Logan Elm for a great effort. The Braves took CHS to the wire, which I didn't think would happen.

Chillicothe is still my pick to win the regional, but there's room for improvement after yesterday's game. Logan Elm executed a very good game plan, but at the same time the Cavaliers were not on their A game.

I will be there next week to watch the Cavaliers and Vikings battle in the regional!!

Just an interesting note after reviewing the stats from the game. After getting down 20-11 after the 1st qtr, the Cavs outscored LE in each of the next 3 qtrs. LE came out firing on all cylinders and an uncharteristic 1st qtr (defensively and offensively), put the Cavs in a deep hole. Lets face it, every team that gets this far is playing well. We outscored LE by 10 over the last 3 qtrs (and 13 if you discount the buzzer beating 3 ball).

IMO Cavs cleaned up on the defensive end (gave up 28 over 3 qtrs, again including the buzzer beater). The team knows what it needs to do and I am sure they will be all over it this week. As the shirts read on the front of many Cavs fans "REFUSE TO LOSE". This team has the heart of champs and I am extremely proud of them.

Also, Congrats to LE on an excellent season and an excellent program.

And a few fortunate bounces on the rim for Chilli and a few bad ones for Logan Elm down the stretch. Any team is going to need a little luck if they are to make a long tournament run. Last night Chilli had a little luck.

The pressure is the key for Chillicothe. They should apply it more, especially the trapping. It's suffocating. I believe Chillicothe has the personnel to substitute a tad bit more if they need to if getting the players too tired is the concern.

I tried to post earlier and I guess it didn't get on there. Anyway, congratualtions to Chillicothe. They won this one on guts, heart, and Ray Chambers' wing span. However, if you come flat like that first quarter again, you may not win the next one!

To Logan Elm, you gave it your best and you have nothing to hang your heads over. The coaching staff may have gotten more out of this team than any other, even the district champs of 2006. Great job and good luck to the seniors.
