Re: Cassady Willford from Meigs Makes it to State!
Willford got 4th at district right.
Don't you think it was pretty arrogant for his coach to say that he had a good chance at placing at state? It was in the paper the other day.
I wish Cassidy all the luck in the world but I just think his coach was a little stupid for saying that.
I also wouldn't be too happy with the sportswriter who quoted him saying that.

I don't think it's arrogant or stupid at all. What coach wouldn't talk their player or athlete up? If you don't believe you can compete at state or even place at state then why even go? Personally boogerred I think you may be reading into it a bit too much.

That's a shame. I know what the kid is probably feeling (personal experience). But, he made it there and that's quite the accomplishment.
I don't blame his coach for talking him up...he's just proud of him, that's all, give him a break!!!

All of Meigs County is very proud of Cassidy and his accomplishments, on and off of the mat. Getting to be there (state) is a feat in itself. He is a QUALITY person, not to mention the athlete. There is not an arrogant bone in his body!!! I praise his coach for having the faith in him. I agree Frozen Rope if your coach can't talk you up who can??? WE ARE ALL PROUD OF HIM.
Re: Cassady Willford from Meigs Makes it to State!
I wanted him to do well.
I was just saying that it was an unrealistic expectation.
Of course coaches should talk their athletes up to a point, but to place at state you have to win at least twice. And a single win is an accomplishment in itself.
i have talked to Cassidy before and I agree that he is a good kid.
What is he doing after he graduates?

We'll have to agree to disagree about the coaches comments because I still don't have a single problem with it. Even if deep down you don't think your athlete has a chance to win or do well, you NEVER say that to him or to a reporter. ALWAYS encourage and talk your athlete up! Also, I'm sure his coach DID actually think he has a shot at placing at state. Cassady is a very gifted wrestler (his record and accomplishments proved that).
As far as Cassady's future plans...he'll be playing football at Heidelberg this coming fall.

By no means did I say tell the kid that he stands no chance!
And I agree that you should always encourage your kids.
Heidelberg also has wrestling which leaves him an option to pursue that as well.

boogerred: i"m the coach of cassady, and i thought that he could place in the state, he is that good. He had the first boy on his back twice but could not pin him. the second boy he had on his back once but could not pin him.

Re: Cassady Willford from Meigs Makes it to State!
Coach: Just because you come on here, do you think I am going to change what I said/thought? If so, that is very narrow-minded.
I know Cassidy is a good wrestler and I would loved to have looked at baumspage and seen him placing at state.
I still believe that it was stupid to say what you did. That is just my opinion. I would never say that because I think that puts undue pressure on the kid. But sometimes other coaches don't always look at things my way.
And as a coach, I know that you don't care what others say. (But apparently you do because you replied to what I said).
I think it is safe to say that everyone on here is proud that Cassidy made it as far as he did.

boogered... i t hink it is pretty stupid what you said
maybe the coach should tell the paper..,"

how stupid would that be...

I am sorry I did not know that people could only say positive things on here.
wrestlefan: I never said that he should say that, but it would have at least been the truth.
