We lose a good senior class, but still have Mader as QB and hopefully Milani will be healthy enough to play. He is a key player.

I think we are pretty set in all skill positions, but the boys only return 2 linemen so we'll be really young up front.

Bean counter this post just really puzzles me? Coach Ashley has established a very nice offense mainly with this junior class leading it. Mader has been running it for 2 years now, and from what I've heard Coach Ashley gives Mader free reign, and Mader adjust play calls at the line and everything?! My son plays on the team so I attended the banquet last season and I think Mader and Lewis set 2 or 3 records together. Also probably the best QB & WR combo in the area, and both SOC all-team players...why switch it up now??

Just where are the stats?? For as long as I can remember, the ND football program always listed the stats for teams past.
This years program was WINTER SPORTS with no mention of past player performances. Maybe beancounter was looking at utilizing Mader's size at tight end or fullback. You do have the Toleman boy who could play at qb and be there for 2 years.
But back to the stats. Where are they in the program. Please post the passing stats for last year, since you're talking about records.
But for now here are a few for everybody taken from the 2010 Titan program. When you look at the stats below, you'll see that Brock Hannah name is there and those stats are from his sophomore and junior years at QB. Brock was replaced his senior year by the Mader boy who was a sophomore. This was done by Coach Ashley. so the precedent is there to replace a senior with a younger QB for the good of the team.

BALZAC- I don't have access to last seasons stats or I would gladly post them, it was a pretty successful season for the Titans. If I remember correctly Mader broke the most consecutive TD Passes, Lewis broke the all time touchdown record, Mader is 2nd all time in TD passes in a season, also completion percentage. Lewis was just shy of most yards in a season, and receptions. Also BALZAC Mader replaced a very talented Brock Hannah not by choice, but because Hannah had an unfortunate elbow injury that still haunted him from baseball. Yes he does have good size, but his size isnt outstanding, it's just the fact ND doesnt have much size so it sticks out. Also I agree Toleman is one of the best athletes I've seen, but is raw talent I believe. Also Toleman needs to get it done in the classroom to even play. If I'm not mistaken he couldn't play last season because of grades, so he quit.

In no way do I think that it would be a bad decision to move Mader wherever Ashley wants him, i wouldn't expect any hardship, or attitude from the kid, he'll play hard, but "If it ain't broke, dont fix it." Now if struggles arise during the season, I don't see a problem with changing it up; but saying all this, one player isn't going to effect the wins and losses column. I'm sure whatever the outcome all the kids will give maximum effort because I've never seen anything less from them. The TRUE question I believe is not who could possibly replace Mader, but who will play Runningback if the Milani boy isn't healthy enough?

Football offense comes down to one issue. Do you have an offensive line? Earlier statements were that only 2 return to the O-line. If you don't have the men up front, you aren't going anywhere. A good example is last years PHS O-line. PHS had great specialty players at qb, running backs and WR. Yet they weren't able to execute. Their O-Line was pushed back into the backfield on runnings plays and they couldn't sustain a block on passing plays for the two games I saw. Their QB had to roll out to pass and even that got disrupted. So put Mader at FB or TE to help with the blocking and let Toleman hand off and pass. He appears faster and is a natural athelete.
Has anyone checked to see if Milani can return or wants to? Doesn't he also play basketball and baseball?
Now back to the records you mentioned. What do you mean by "most consecutiveTD passes"? You said Lewis broke the all time touchdown record. Is that receiving, running or combined?
You said "Mader is second all time in TD passes for a season, so according to my math that would mean he threw for 14 TDs last year, is that correct? Phil Vetter had 15 and Brock Hannah had 13. If so that's what I'd like to see when I look at stats in the program. Also players like to see their accomplishments. Students and parents like to see A's on the report card, right? Same thing.
Now Hannah's injury was from baseball not football. How many QB's have you heard of that had a Tommy John injury. Plus he was your senior and 3 year starter at QB.
Toleman's speed may be what you need this year at QB. Without a line, the QB is going to be running around a lot.
As for Toleman keeping his grades up, that's a given. If not then it has to be Mader, and yes he looks like a great kid with a good head.
But Toleman played basketball and hopefully learned from his mistake.
ND has a rich tradition and tradition is based on the past as well as the present. So put the stats back into the program and get rid of whose ever idea it was to be politically correct and take that out.

I like the offense ND runs, and I think even though they will be young up front they won't be any smaller than the typical ND line. Hopefully they are getting stronger during the offseason.
