Predator hunting

Anyone out there hunt coyotes I have been having frequent activity around my house from a pack of them at night. I am going to start hunting them when I get a call. Several people have recommended the Cass Creek Predator II.

We just had a cow die from prolapsing about a month ago and I let it go for two weeks before walking down there to the field witch it was in. When i walked in from down wind i spotted 5 of them mousing in the field about 300 yards away from me. I walked straight through a wide open alfa-alfa field straight to them and stopped about 100 yards and finally realized that they were not really mousing but one of them was in heat and the other 4 were big males trying to breed her. I got out my johnny stewart prey master and hit the rabbit distress and then female came burning towards me and stopped about 50 yards right behind a bush. Then I guess the wind changed and it was history But that was 2 weeks ago and I never hunted it again so I will give it another shot this weekend and take my big rifle and try and knock down 2 or 3 of them

I would recommend this if you were actually getting into it so you would not be limited to the sounds that you could use. If you all ready have an MP3 player, cd player or what ever you prefer to use it would actually be just as cheap and you could put as many sounds as you wanted on there. I also know a bunch of sites that have alot of excellent wildlife sounds that you could download for free! I will post them later after I find them.

I don't have any portable players right now but I thought about that. I liked that Predator II call because it had kittens on it. The yotes seem to like cats pretty well Thanks for your input.

IF you click on the electronic calls forum on the bottom of that page someone lists all of the sites to where you can get free sounds. They have about every sound you could imagine on there, including kitten cries. I guess after the inflation of prices it costs about $60 to do that if you have to buy everything except the player. My favorite sound that i have used is the racoon & coyote fight.

I just figured I would finish what i was doing incase anyone else decided to take up the sport of predator hunting

Yeah i read to where mating season in ohio is usually from jan to late febuary and maybe sometimes early march. Last year i Howled in quite a few in early March, I guess because of territory or they were trying to get the last female

Yeah I try and listen to them and mock them with my howler, some times it works and sometimes I mess it up

I would be interested in hunting coyotes. Do you have to buy a spiecal permit for them? I mainly hunt deer, sqiurrel and Rabbit plus I fish alot.

No you dont, all you need is your hunting liscence if you are not hunting on your own land. There is no bag limit and there is no closed season either!

I would also be interested in hunting coyotes. Like OzzieOhio, I mainly hunt deer and squirrels and a little turkey hunting(not too successful on the turkeys).
Maybe we could get some of the veteran coyoters on here to hold a teaching seminar somewhere for us less knowledgeable folks.
Any volunteers?

I assume a rifle is the best weapon to use for this but what is the best rifle for it. The only rifle I have is a 30-06. Is that too heavy?

I driving home from my Mother's home, who lives in Pike County. I was driving through Camp Creek area, when I saw the biggest fox I have ever seen!! I told my family about it and they all laughed at me...it was a coyote. Heck I had never seen one before!! It was pretty big. It ran out in front of my car. It musy of had a death wish, good thing my brakes were good!

Well if you was just hunting them I would say use what ever you wanted but if you were going to skin it I would go with a 220swift,, 22-250, 223 something along them lines.
I use a 22-250 with 45 gr. hollow points and you cant even see a tear in the hide and they drop like flies

I'm going to use my Thompson Center Omega 50 cal. muzzleloader to hunt yotes with. All of the calibers that Brutus mentioned are good ones. 223 is probably the most common yote killer. There are some guys using the 17HMR's to hunt them with but you are limited to just over 100 yards with them.
