i'm going: 1. coal grove 2. fairland 3. peake 4. valley 5. hill 6. point. Fairland is the sleeper everyone underestimates. Easily the fastest backfield in the OVC.

Not wanting to stir anything up here but a few questions.
Is River Valley still leaving the OVC? and I heard that Gallia academy and Portsmouth was looking at possibly trying to join the OVC.
The OVC is at a cross roads I believe what can they do to be stronger and able to get the respect they once had as a conference.
This may be a down year or few for them and they may rebound they are strong in other sports it's just that football seems to be taking a beating.
I would like to see the two above teams admitted into the OVC but will it happen is the question.
Like I said just wondered no wanting to start nothing up but the OVC does need to do something I believe.

To maniac

Yes River Valley is leaving for the TVC which they will start league play in 2014 (I think)

As for the other two schools wanting in the OVC, I could see both of those schools wanting in but I truly seeing the OVC merging with another conference before those schools get in.

Who would they Merge with it?
Not a lot of leagues to merge with the SOC I or II are really the only ones around Kentucky schools have no leagues in the area do to their playoff format and Wv has none I am aware of to merge with.
I think adding those two schools would be good for the OVC but I don't think they will allow them to join.
And I really don't see the SOC taking the OVC in a merger or the OVC breaking up to join them.
But then again who knows be interesting to see how it plays out.
Gallia academy would be the largest school but not by much and they may be settling down to Div. IV in the near future.
I know they will never let Ironton in for various reasons but I could see them allowing Portsmouth and Gallia in the league.

I can really see a merger with the SOC,,,,most of the teams that are in the OVC (minus River Valley) were in the SOC before the OVC was formed back in 1954.

Dragonfan5 you say Wilcoxen had more talent than Dave has had. I really disagree. Dave has had some of the most talented classes that have come through FHS for awhile. The problem is these athletes do not want to play for the current Coaching staff. Every year Carroll has been the head Coach the number of kids playing has dropped and so has his record. The only winning season he had was against a very weak schedule his first year and that is probably because that team was coached the previous year by Snyder.

This happens every so many years and it is starting to get old. You will have some parents who think their child is the best all around athlete to come through Coal Grove since Randy Hall(for the younger readers you may need to do some research) and they get mad when their child doesn't get the playing time they think he should get. The only problem with I have is if you would talk to every parent of every football player they would all say the boy should be getting more playing time but they sit their and know that there is a reason why their son is not playing right now and that their child will need to work harder to get on the field. The parents that think that they can go and complain to the higher ups in the district and get the boys on the field make me shake my head in disgust.

This is why it is important to hire a coach who has the savvy to rise above such things. If the answer of "my judgement call will be the one that matters" isn't the right answer then you need another coach. Look to hire some one who can command respect (kids and parents) and gets the kids excited for sports, not just football. The athletes and winning are just side effects of a well ran program. Chesapeake was lucky to get the right person in to follow an amazing coach in Davis. It wasn't his play calling, and outcoaching ability that made him great (as any good panther player knows). His judgement was respected, and got kids into sports, be it wrestling, football, track. Made good decisions with staff as well. The wins followed. I played against two below avg football teams from CG athletically in 03' and 04' that played a solid football game every week, what that did was to ensure they would not lose to a lesser team. A decent record was the result.
