Congratulations Cavs and Coach K. One of the greatest high school games of all time if not the greatest in terms of excitment. Hitchens, Chambers and the team were outstanding! You will forever now be state champions! Good luck to all Cav seniors at the next level in sports and in life! You made all of southeast Ohio proud!

That last play almost seemed like a dream, was like did that really just happen. That is every players dream to make a shot at the buzzer in the championship game. We did not play good defense the first half, a lot of standing around, but our players stepped up in the second half and refused to lose. Nice job Cavs, noone can ever take this away from you!

From another Zanesville fan, Congratulations. As hard as I cheered against the Cav's against Zanesville this year, i was cheering just as hard for them to win today. Great game, great win, what a gutsy performace.

CONGRATS TO THE CAVS!!!!
2old and I watched the Cavs win from section 313 this morning and were WOWED at the effort by the Cavs, especially from the middle of the third quarter on. They got Libby's best shot, because as Dave said, Buford stepped his game up, but in the end the Cavs made the big plays to put them over the top.
Congrats to the Chillicothe team, fans, and community on a GREAT achievement. I wasn't sure I'd ever see an SEOAL team win a state championship in basketball. Amazingly not only does the SEOAL have a champion, but it was by the team that finished SECOND in the league. No doubt Chilli AND Zanesville were among the best teams in Ohio.
Ray Chambers had a great weekend and should be entertaining some offers to continue to playing at the next level. Hitchens played his game all weekend and helped propel CHS.
Congratulations, you've done the SEOAL and all of SE Ohio proud!

Re: Congrats to Chillicothe DIV II STATE CHAMPS!!!
Let me start off by saying one thing!!!! (as posted on that other site)
GO CAVS!!! REFUSE TO LOSE!!! TAKE NO PRISONERS!!! 7 DOWN!!! YOUR ARE STATE CHAMPIONS AND I AM PROUD AS YOU KNOW WHAT!!!
Awesome game, and I just say the finish on Channel 4. Their clip did not do justice to the final play as they did not show the whole 5 seconds. My DVR stopped with 3 minutes to go, because I did not set it in case it went past the scheduled time. I will watch it again tonight (at 11:00) and enjoy it like it was live.
As for Toledo Libbey, I say hats off to a classy program. I said that they were the best team in the State, but I was wrong. They are the second best team in the State. The way I look at it, the D1 game tonight features two giants that both lost to the D2 finalist (Cleve St. Eds to Libbey and Newark to Chillicothe back in Janaury. I will also say to those that are taking shots at Coach Bates, I believe he is a classy individual and has some great kids. We had them in Chillicothe for 2 out of the past 3 years. I watched them at OSU a few more times, and I believe they have a great program. I am not sure I would have taken the air out of the ball, but Bufford was in foul trouble. It may have backfired, but he is the coach and he got them this far. I was on the floor and felt terrible for these kids. Wells is a stud and William Bufford is a superstar. He could have helped OSU against Mich St yesterday. The clutch 3-ball he nailed when Chilly was up 4 late was huge. Hats off to the whole Libbey team and coaching staff.
To the Cavs....What can we say. We did not play our best game, but we sure played the game and REFUSED TO LOSE!!! Down 16, many were ready to concede, but the Cavs were not ready to just accept second place. Once, Coach K. put the pressure on, I thought our guys woke up. The first half was a daze and Hump could not buy a basket. I thought the other guys were tenative in the 1st half and did not look for their shots. IMO this forced Hump to take some stuff not in rhythm. Once the other guys knocked down shots (Knights 3-ball) for one, I thought it opened up some better looks.
In reviewing the stats, one could say all day that with our shooting we should have lost. 40% from the field compared to 50% from the field for Libbey. However, I stated the keys to the game besides knocking down shots would be rebounds and turnovers. In a game I thought we would get killed on the boards, we both had 34. In a game where I thought we might have 15 turnovers, we had 10 (compared to Libbey's 15). And finally we knocked down 70% of our free throws including 15-18 in the second half and then 3-6 in OT.
Take all that in account and then the fact that other then one big run in the third, we were right with Libbey throughout the game. I have to believe we also got 80% of the loose balls. What team effort.
Individually:
I thought Humps (Hitchens) all around game made up for his poor shooting %. He ended up with 24 pts 8 assists, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. He could not buy a basket on his short pullup and also did not finish a few times. Kudo's to Libbey for also running a man at him and shadowing him for a while.
Chambers played outstanding in the second half after getting into foul trouble and seemed a bit off in the first half. 23 pts and 8 boards is a nice day at the office.
Beverly stepped up big in his last game as a Cavalier. 10 pts and two huge steals (both momentum changers). I also thought his perimeter defense was very solid as well.
Dawes stepped and pulled down some huge rebounds (5 total) and the And One when we were down 16 was BIG TIME. He also stepped up and knocked down 2 more huge free throws late. Seth also took up alot of space that allowed our guards to sneak in and get some boards. Seth is a warrior.
Caleb (Joe Dumars) Knights, calm, cool, collected. Started off with a great sportmanship message to the whole crowd, ended up playing a great floor game. His defense was outstanding and not once did he get rattled. I also loved his "and one".
Ron Smith - Big time reverse layup and quality minutes coming off the bench to spell Dawes and Chambers. Also was not intimadated by the senior laden Libbey squad.
The Bench: They stayed in the game all day and keep the energy going even when we got down.
Coach K. - What can I say!!! I know he does not read this stuff, but somebody will get him the message. He got these kids to believe in themselves individually, in the system and more importantly they believed together as a team. Finally, he gave all honor to my Lord and Savior and that in itself made my day.
GO CAVS!!! YOU REFUSED TO LOSE AND KNOW YOU ARE STATE CHAMPIONS!!!
