Re: An Early Look at the SEOAL: The 2008 Logan Chieftains
At least some one will try and pick up the slack.
WLGN began broadcasting LIVE Chieftain football games in 1968. I believe the playoff game against Hilliard Davidson in 2006 is the ONLY Logan Chieftain football game that has not been broadcast by WLGN in 40 years. Prior to '68 WLGN broadcast games on tape delay on Saturday mornings.
As Logan Grad has stated, the new ownership at WLGN (who took over in 2004) has been threatening for years to end their affiliation with Logan High School athletics.
I think that businesses in Hocking County should pull their advertising. There is no longer anything local about WLGN.
It will be a sad day for many people, especially Roger Hinerman, and others who worked hard for years to provide purple and white football games to the citizens of Hocking County. WLGN built the old press box at Bill Sauer Field, and sent it's personalities on to many great places.

Why would anyone even bother to listen to WLGN anymore if it isn't locally oriented. No offense but there are much better country music stations and at least 95.5 airs NASCAR.

I think its a sad day in Hocking County and as Locos stated Roger Hinerman is probably very sad at what has become of a station that was once the heartbeat for the community. It seems ownership has other ideas, but they have had those ideas since the day they took over. Trust me, I know. But what is one man's loss could be another's gain if they take the Bull by the horns!!
and run with it. They could be on the verge of a very nice station and growth if done right. Best of Luck!

Sounds like a movement is starting
I do hope the new station has a postgame call-in like the Guru. Maybe not so hokey but more for hardcore football nuts!

Re: An Early Look at the SEOAL: The 2008 Logan Chieftains
Friday I took a look at the Sophomore class for 2008.
Today, I'll take a look at the Junior class. Here is a list (with some comments) about each kid in the class of 2010 from last year's roster:
Patrick Angle, QB/DE/DB - Patrick was one of the defenses key contributors last year at end where he recorded 52 total tackles (6th on team) and a team-leading 9 sacks. He also caught 7 passes for 109 yards and a TD while completing 7 of 8 passes for 70 yards and 2 TDs as the back-up quarterback. This fall Patrick will lead the offense at quarterback and could also see time on defense in situational action. Returning Letterman.
Mason Mays, RB/WR/LB/DB - Mason was a key player on the Logan defense last season where he recorded 67 total tackles (4th on team) and picked off two passes from his cornerback spot. This fall, Mason could see time at either linebacker or defensive back. Mays also caught 4 passes for 82 yards with a touchdown on offense and figures to see time at receiver (replacing Lucas Wright) or running back in 2008. Returning Letterman.
Jordan Rutter, QB/WR/DB - Jordan was a solid special teams player and quarterbacked the JV team to a fine record last season as a sophomore. Could see time at receiver and defensive back in 2008. Returning Letterman.
Caleb Valkinburg, WR/DB - Another special teams contributor, will add depth at wide receiver and defensive back.
Trent McCort, WR/DB - Mainly a JV player in 2007, will likely reprise that role in 2008 but will also contribute on special teams and add depth at WR and DB.
David Ruff, WR/DB - Mainly a JV player in 2007, will contribute on special teams and add depth at WR and DB.
Zack McDaniel, RB/NG - Zack ran the ball along with Korey Swaim for the JVs in 2007 and will add depth at RB and WR for the varsity in 2008. McDaniel also will add depth at noseguard. Returning Letterman.
Korey Swaim, RB/WR/DB - Swaim was a special teams player in 2007 and contributed at running back, receiver, and defensive back with the JVs. Will add depth at those spots in 2008.
Kyle Andy, RB/DE - Kyle was primarily a JV player in 2007, but has the size and abillity to contribute on special teams in 2008 and add depth at running back and defensive end.
Michael Snider, FB/LB - Snider was a special teams contributor last season, will likely move into a starting linebacker spot in 2008. Also could be the starter at fullback on offense. Returning Letterman.
Michael Velchick, TE/DE - Primarily JV player in 2007, could contribute on special teams and add depth at Tight end and defensive end in 2008.
AJ Rooker, WR/DB/K - AJ was primarily a JV player in 2007, could contribute on special teams, especially as a kicker.
Joe Dennis, OG/DT - Primarily a JV player in 2007. Could contribute on special teams and add depth at guard and defensive tackle in 2008.
Kevin Smith, OG/DT - Kevin was a primarily a JV player in 2007, but has the size and ability to contribute on special teams and add depth on the offensive line.
Bobby Russell, C - Returning starter at center. Had a great sophomore season with 4 other first year starters. Will be one of 4 returning starters on the offensive line. Returning Letterman.
Ryan Anderson, OG/DT - Primarily a JV player in 2007. Could contribute on special teams and add depth at Guard and defensive tackle.
Ralph Robinson, C/TE/DE - Robinson was a special teams contributor and mainstay on the JV lines in 2007. Will add depth up front at either center or tight end on offense as well as defensive end on defense. Returning Letterman.
Monty Adams, OT/DT - A primarily JV player in 2007, has the size and ability to contribute on special teams and to add depth at Tackle and DT.
TJ McCray, OT/DT - Primarily a JV player in 2007, has the size and ability to contribute at defensive tackle and on special teams.
Kenny Sigler, OT/DT - Primarily a JV player in 2007, will contribute on special teams and could compete for a starting spot at offensive tackle.
Jeff Murphy, OG/DT - Primarily a JV player in 2007, will contribute on special teams and add depth on both lines in 2008.
Jake Pogemoeller, OT/DT - Primarily a JV player in 2007, will contribute on special teams and add depth on the defensive line in 2008.
Brock Thompson, OT/DT - Primarily a JV player in 2007, will contribute on special teams and could compete for a starting spot at offensive tackle.
Miles McGomery, TE/DE - Primarily a JV player in 2007, could contribute on special teams and add depth at TE and DE.
Ryan Sigler, WR/DB/P - Primarily a JV player in 2007, will contribute at special teams and may compete for the starting job at punter. Will add depth at WR and DB.
Gavin Doyle, TE/DE - Primarily a JV player in 2007, will contribute on special teams and add depth at TE and DE in 2008.
Dustin Godsin, WR/DB - Primarily a JV player in 2007, could contribute on special teams and add depth at WR and DB.
Cory Randolph, WR/DB - Primarily a JV player in 2007, could contribute on special teams and add depth at WR and DB.
Overall, 8 returning lettermen and 3 returning starters in the junior class. I look for a lot of these kids to be KEY contributors over the next couple of seasons. There are ton of talented linemen along with skill players in this class.

Hope I didn't miss anyone.
Feel free to leave comments/suggestions. Remember, it's just one man's opinion, and one man who didn't see a TON of JV football last year.
Go Chiefs!

A couple of items here as an update. Mind you, I'm not an insider. Not sure if Kenny Sigler or Gavin Doyle are playing this year. Also, Kyle Andy may be working out at OL instead of FB. He would join his brother Westin on the line and add some real strength to an already stellar unit. Jordan Rutter may be the darkhorse receiver this year.

I'm not an insider either. Heck, I'm living in Columbus and won't get to see anything until Aug. 8 for the Circleville scrimmage.
I'm not shocked about Kyle Andy being moved. I'm disapointed to hear about Sigler and Doyle. They both had potential to be solid football players in my opinion. Doyle was a big old boy who could move pretty well. Unfortunately for him he was stuck at a couple of positions with a lot of depth......but that's everywhere on the team really.
I'll break down the seniors later in the week.

Locos-
Looking forward to it. You do a great job of breaking the chiefs down analytically. Are you doing the reports for the Logan Daily again this year?

Yes.
I'll be breaking down all 9 SEOAL teams for the season preview that will run the first week of the season (Weds or Thurs before Lancaster) and then will do a weekly break down of Logan's opponents each week, just like the last couple of years.
Craig Dunn does an excellent job covering all Chieftain sports and I am glad to be a part of the football coverage (and other sports when possible).

Well it looks like that 106.7 will be doing something the Bull never did and thats broadcasting online, which I hope they can pull off before the lancaster game, as I would be able to listen to the game on my phone and watch the Scioto games as well. Could be cool...

Re: An Early Look at the SEOAL: The 2008 Logan Chieftains
I was vacationing in the area this past week and took my portable radio down with me. "The Bull" sounded pretty sloppy with whatever satellite format they are running. I'm referring to rejoining the network in the middle of a song, a lack of station ID at the top of the hour, etc... WSEO in Nelsonville definitely was on satellite as well, but at least seemed to get the "magic calls" and automation to work a little better. The audio on WWTL 106.7 / 104.7 was terrible -- very distorted. Hopefully they can get that fixed before football season.
High school sports go well on Low Power FM stations. Our LP station in the Dayton area is going into a third season of producing high school games as well as adding a coaches show this season. It works very well for the sponsors too because their messages run as "underwriting" similar to NPR, and since LP stations have to be licensed to a nonprofit that means the sponsors can write off their donations on their taxes. I wish 106.7 / 104.7 the best of luck on this new venture.

Any updates on the purple and white scrimmage today?
