nba please. nbdl maybe. they would not be guarding each other bball genius'. ive saw mullins play twice this year and lets just say, slow and winded. had to sub every 3 or 4 minutes. do you honestly think mullins could guard chambers one on one. i think not. donors have lose lips and i know one that gave me the low-down on the promises made to this kid.
good luck in the future to both kids.

Re: Ray Chambers
dshanton: someone on jj said Wright State is interested in Chambers? That'd be a good fit in my opinion. Good up and coming program and he could be dominant at the 4 spot in that league with a little bit of muscle added. As for OU, I don't care what anyone says, they have missed out on some good local players lately. If Cam Thoroughman is good enough to play at West Virginia and Nick Aldridge is good enough to play at Cincinnati, they were good enough to warrant an offer from OU. No way they should have let Hitchens end up at Akron.
qualified: no disrespect intended toward a nice MAC-caliber player like Chambers, but you are delusional if you think he is anywhere near the talent of Mullens. I have seen Mullens pegged as the #1 pick in mock 2009 NBA drafts. So yeah, I think tOSU will do just fine the one year he is there.
Basically, 6'6" guys with limited range are a dime a dozen...7'1" guys that can run the floor and jump out of the gym don't come around too often.*

Re: Ray Chambers
Art you can't blame Ohio University for not getting Hitchens. Hitchens was offered by Ohio and he turned them down.
As far as Cam was concerned Ohio wasn't the only team that missed the boat on him and he was injured his senior season. Who would think of offering a player from Portsmouth Clay anyway? Oops...Ohio did....former decent Clay player and lousy Ohio head coach Dale Bandy.

Re: Ray Chambers
doc_panther: didn't know OU offered Hitchens...if so, you're right in that there wasn't much else they could do. As for Thoroughman and/or Aldridge, I stand by my position that OU dropped the ball by not offering them.
qualfied: I guess BJ Mullens being selected to play in the McDonald's All-American game was by accident then? I would put money on Mullens being on an NBA roster at some point in his life...I can't say the same thing for Chambers (again no slam on the kid as he is a great high school talent and mid-major prospect). The proof is in the college offers.*

I don't blame any of the players not going to Ohio. Tim O'Shea head coach of Bobcats is a bad coach. As long as he is around, they aren't going anywhere. It is hard saying this, being the big OU fan that I am, but sometimes the truth hurts.
Good luck to all of these players.
Good luck to all of these players.
Re: Ray Chambers
know your role, as an OU alum and fan, it also pains me to have to say that O'shea is garbage. but he is.

Re: Ray Chambers
d3 and knowyour,
You two must be brothers. Tough on the ole coach down in Bobcat country. In viewing the success or lack thereof, the criticism sounds justified. It does seem amazing to me that a greater emphais (recruiting, marketing, networking, etc) needs to be made on some of these Ohio players.
I would be curious as to what the recruting plan (geography, player type, etc), that the Bobcats have.

Art, you can be upset with OU not going after Aldridge or Cam...but it could be possible that they did not go after because they knew they would not get them. Most colleges especially mid-majors goes after kids they believe they can get instead of someone they are hoping to get. Both would have helped OU if they would have went but I doubt they would have.
As far as Chambers, what about possibly Marshall or Kent State who just hired a new coach who has coached at SSU before.

hitch, i do have a brother that posts on this site but it is not know your role
O'shea had one team that got hot at the end of the year and won the tourney to send them to the dance. that team was led by, almost exclusively, a group of very good freshman in Williams, Fears, and Co. The team has not been a conference contender since that season when you would think that they would be loaded for years to come. Defections, failure to develop players, and spotty recruiting (there was a stretch where i thought you couldnt get an offer from OU unless you were from the basketball hotbed of Minnesota) are to blame IMO and all of those come back on O'shea. OU consistently puts out a team with as much talent as any in the league, but year in and year out they play incosistently and are terrible on the road. Larry Hunter recruited Ohio and had equally talented teams and was let go for failure to make the big dance, O'shea got lucky one year and made it on a last second tap in and has been riding on that for far too long in my opinion.

Re: Ray Chambers
TOS keeps saying he likes Ohio and isn't goin anywhere. Some of us doubt that statement and wish he would leave. With that said I don't think he's a terrible coach but he's also not a great coach. The problem with that is that teams may pass on him as he has interviewed for eastern jobs the last few years and may have just interviewed for the Providence and Brown jobs.
We all wanted Geno Ford but he's the Kent State head coach. If TOS has any downside it may be the fact that he hasn't cultivated a decent relationship with Ohio coaches. I'm not calling him a prick or an arrogant ba$tard but he simply should have tried to make more Ohio ties. I don't blame him for Hitchins going to Akron....if the kid visits both schools and picks the Kron campus then that's Humpty Dumpty's fault. We did offer Humpty no matter how hard or soft you want to paint it. TOS had his assistants contact Hitchens and they are extremely competent. You can't fault Ohio for that one.

Re: Ray Chambers
Doc, If that is Ohio's best recruiting effort then they better find business elsewhere. You need assitant coaches to live with these kids in the summer. Coach Bowles at Akron did just that and landed one of the best point guards in the state of ohio.

And that's a big fault. TOS has interviewed with Providence and I hope he gets it. As far as assistant coaches John rhodes and Kevin Kuwik are decent recruiters.....especially Army vet Kuwik.....Townsend as an assistant coach was OK until he went back to the University of Michigan.....the new guy is from Detroit and recruits that area well.

Re: Ray Chambers
doc,
How many AAU games or even games at Hatton Memorial (real long trip), did OU make. I believe Akron did not miss a single game for a long period of time. I just don't believe they recruit Ohio real well. It isn't about Humpty, Chambers or anybody. It is the fact that it is a D1 Mid-Major in an excellent conference and the top Ohio kids don't go there.
These kids all run the AAU circuit together. Some would love to make a name for themselves and build a team. But how many are going, lets go to the Convo and get something going. Kent St, Akron, Miami, etc. They all have nice runs and success. Athens can do it, but I am not sure the right people are doing it. My goodness, there is a pipeline from ST RT 33 to Columbus. How many of those kids have they got (OCC or Public).

Ohio did hit AAU circuits hitchbone....recruit Tommie Freeman was on the Indiana AAU circuit.....can't disagree too much that Ohio needs to recruit more local players....they just offered a point guard from Cleve. St. Ed's....I think his name is Dobbs....the team Newark beat in this year's D1 H.S. final.

doc,
I saw Dobbs a few times this year. He will be a good steady pt guard, but you won't get the "WOW" factor or others following him. He should be a solid rock at the pt if he comes. I see he has not signed.
