Re: Opening Day
Hey BWH, I got another district surprise for you. I won't let the cat out of the bag just yet. It will be awesome for district 11 though.

Re: Opening Day
By "awesome for the district" do you mean that it will affect the entire district or will just one league find it as good news?

Re: Opening Day
Well the great news is that the South Point 11-12's will be able to take a team to the Little League World Series in August and play in 2 exhibition games at the complex. We will be playing a team from either New York or New Jersey and possible the Russian or Canadian team. Now before all of you start whining about South Point getting every thing in District 11, Seagraves has alread let Wheelersburg and Fairland take a team there in previous years. This will be a great opportunity for the boys and their families.

That is great for those kids from SP who will get the opportunity to play. I wouldn't exactly call that great news for the district though.

Re: Opening Day
Maybe a good way to do this for the good of the WHOLE district would be to select an "all-tournament team" from all the teams in the district 11 tourny and let them go play in the exhibition games.

I like that idea about an all-tournament team from the district. Is there a way this could happen instead of just one team going? Nothing against South Point...just wondering?

Forming an allstar team from the whole district wasn't allowed. I think the reason was that at one time they let teams do this and one team brought a local team from one town and another brought a distrcit all star team and pounded the local team pretty bad. So I guess they only let local teams go. Glenn told me that he can send a team just about every year. I guess all you need to do is ask. By the way we have to use all our own mony to get there. Each family is responsible. The District isn't giving us any. The closest rooms we could find are 127.00 without taxes per night and that's like 30 miles away from Williamsport. Whatever the cost the experince alone is priceless!

I recall Glenn mentioning that at a meeting a while back. I too thought it would be a great idea and a great experience but I saw the expense as too great of a drawback. I know Wheelersburg did it and asked for donations for the trip. I'm not sure how SP is funding the trip other than the previous post stating the parents are responsible.

Ive seen this in part during our district all-stars.
One team from Scioto county had girls from at least 3 maybe 4 leagues,I know for a fact they had girls from Green,Lucasville and not sure about where the other girls came from.I know Ironton girls a couple of years ago was beaten 2 times by multi-league all-stars.

I would think that if it is a prividge provided to the district that they could send whatever team that they want. the issue of one team "pounding" the other is a non-issue. whats to say that the canadien team is not loaded and will "pound" everyone they play or that the team from new york is horrible and will get "pounded" by everyone they play? They are all all star teams right? or is it a team from your regular season? just throwing out an idea that would be a very nice experience for the whole district.

Again, This was not allowed . The team from New York is supposed to be one local team just like us and so the game should be fairly even. Now playing the Russian team or Canadian team I should expect us to lose because afterall they will have made it to the LLWS and we probably won't even make it past districts. We might win districts but I don't think we will. Just given the opportunity to sit in the same dugouts and play on the same fields as the LLWS players will be great in itself win or lose this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Back in our day (which was quite awihile ago ) the girls team in Ironton teamed up with Symmes Valley for all-stars because neither team had enough of the age bracket that wanted to play. I think (at least at that time) that happend several times with different teams in the district.
